Time of Extinction | JAMBINAI at SXSW Online 2021

South Korean group Jambinai play a surging, dramatic form of metal-infused post-rock using traditional folk instruments. The band has received acclaim for its riveting performances as well as their ambitious recordings, such as 2016's A Hermitage. Citing Nine Inch Nails as a major rock influence and adding traditional instruments, Jambinai explored dark themes such as isolation and despair. Jambinai performed with an orchestra of geomungo players at the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony in Pyeongchang. Korean Traditional Performing Arts Foundation was established with the aim of promoting Korean traditional arts and of enhancing people's cultural awareness through the expansion of cultural opportunities. We were first established as the Gugak Cultural Foundation (Juridical Foundation) with the permission of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea, then in 2009 we were renamed Korean Traditional Performing Arts Foundation (Juridical Foundation). Since then, we have been carrying out various projects to revitalize Korean traditional arts. Currently, we are striving to spread and expand the base of Korean traditional arts, develop its superior arts content, popularize Korean traditional arts and foster new human resources. We are also actively engaged in exchanges with overseas countries to promote the brand value of Korean traditional arts. In the future, we will share the roots and values of Korean traditional arts with the Korean people and communicate with the world.

They both inherited and surpassed Pink Floyd and Metallica in my ears. 거문고(Geomungo)'s low tone and 아쟁( Ajang)'s high tone are so complementary and transcendal to rock guitars that have been in dire need of new instrumental synergy.
