  • An unforgettable cover with a New York City slacker cool, Sonic Youth's sixth studio album 'Goo' arrived just in time to make things noisy in 1990. A band defined by alternate tunings and experimental art rock, Sonic Youth had been releasing albums for nearly a decade before Goo hit. On this week's Waterproof Records we discuss the tale behind the iconic cover art, and how a Spin interview inspired a hit song.

That was one of my favourite albums growing up in the 90’s.

I heard Sonic Youth for the first time last week, it was the song Sunday. I really enjoyed it and look forward to taking your suggestion and listening to Goo ^_^

    On a sidenote:
Sonic Youth will always have a special place in my heart because of a core memory; the first time I was punished at school. When Dirty came out, I couldn't get the beat from 💯% out of my head, so I would find my hands tapping it out on my desk. My English teacher said it was causing a distraction in the learning for others, so she placed me at a table infront of the class, where my back was facing my classmates who were sitting in desks. Little did she know about the school, being a new teacher that year, there was a basement access door underneath that table. That beat sounded much cooler with my feet tapping it out in the hollowed flooring than it did on the desktop in the back of the classroom. To this very day, I still keep that album with me as a reminder to my inner youth to stay sonicly energized. Remember when the CD originally came with indivual cards of the puppets, instead of a long unfolding liner note? On that topic (music-minded ADHD kicking in), remember cool unfolding CD cases? Remember when CDs came in big cardboard boxes? I used to cut them and use them as posters in my bedroom. The 90's were 😎!
