I have a one-owner, low-mileage, Euro-spec 1983 BMW e28 520i. All original with no modifications other than the wheels and tires. It's been fully restored where needed. I love it and drive it daily. I always wanted an e28, and was very lucky to find one that was treated well and stored indoors in a warm climate with no snow or salt. Glad to see you guys feature one on your channel.
I've been loving me an e28 for the last 12 years, currently with 280k miles on the odo the thing runs like a champ. I don't drive it much anymore but not parting with anytime soon.
Love me some E28! Would love to see a full resto on this car, and an E39 M5 swap lol! Keep it up guys! I feel like DP has Connie, and PT has 300 cars lol!
They approach the restoration with such a proactive concept..if you're reading this and happen to be in a bad mental space then worry yourself no more..think of yourself as an E28 and take the time to work on yourself on all aspects which will take time just as the restoration but enjoy the journey to a better version of yourself...
What perfect timing. I just acquired an E28 M5 from a buddy for $500. Exterior is bad with some rust and the paint is shot since it was parked outside for a couple years. Low miles 80k, but needs a clutch. The interior is prestine!
Great video,lads.I have 2 e28's (Alpina B10-Australia kit,not factory, an m535i) & an e30 coupe (in process of fitting m30b35 from an e34).Greetings from Brisbane,Australia.
290k miles on my 92 accord did a timing Belt air filter fuel filter fuel pump ignition coil ditributor (cap and rotor included) plugs. Started driving it more love it more pep more mpgs then the trans let's go😅
Great project. May I suggest limiting the modifications to the unseen parts (brake discs, suspensions...) and keep the original steering wheel and seats (reupholstered). Please avoid the short shifter. The pleasure of driving those 70s and 80s BMWs is found (not only) in the long throw of the gear lever.
I'm talking about the heater motor that's underneath the hood against the firewall. And the 2 squirrel cages 100 sided of the motor that pushes the air around. If that makes more sense sorry my first one didn't come out too well
I really don't see why a company hasn't started to make Euro style bumpers for e30s, e28s, and so on BMW's...all the ones i see are just as much as a real set from Europe.
Why wouldn't you just fix the rust free hood? From what I can see it wouldn't be too terribly difficult and you'd have an all around better quality hood... Edited to add, I've done body work for about 10 years, so I do actually know what I'm talking about. It might not be cheaper to fix the damaged hood, but it wouldn't be full of rust.
I feel like a BMW that looks just this is having a heated track battle with a modified Nissan 510 somewhere. Not bad for a winter beater, just needs some goodies!
I like my UUC Evo 3 on my E46 328 but you just gotta make sure you try out some different transmission fluids to find one you like. im using RP sychromesh and its a bit of a crunchy shift if its under 25 C unless you get it pretty warm while spirited driving and its not ideal.
you guys should have an intro catered to each car build in the series like how the s14 has its own intro just saying, regardless I always enjoy the content you guys bring keep it up
You guys should turn the crashed s2000 shell into a purpose built drag racing car ! Cut off the whole damaged frame section in the front and do a tube chassis up front with a 2JZ swap .
Peter u have a fine taste in cars. Can you and Dave do a video about yourselves? What you drive, fav cars, hobbies etc. We want to know more about you.... Also i thought the donor s2k was being shipped back to the guy in rochester? Did he change his mind?
Great videos! I was considering getting a replica alpina spoiler for my e28. The one on your car looks perfect. Who makes that one and where can I buy it? Thanks!
Speed Academy okay...I think I know who you’re talking about. Wasn’t sure how good those were but looks good enough on your car so I think I’ll give them a try. Thanks and keep the e28 videos coming!
I would suggest to send your two bumpers with a technician specialized in repairing and chroming. After all they are hard to find ítems, and it is worth spending some bucks doing things right
I am looking for a hood and trunk for my E21 and it's almost impossible in New England. I will more than likely be placing an order with wallothnesch sooner than later.
You are lucky PT, yours has a manual trans ! Judging by the look your winter tyres are 205 width ? I'm running 225/50 with the same rims, it looks so great, but now I can only feel how bad are the rubber bushings and arms etc :D. Here in France it still possible to find bumpers and they are not too expensive, but some parts are getting rare to find indeed. Anyway good to see that you are looking after this e28 ;)
Was thinking Ill got to 225s the next time on winter tires because yes they are 205s so a bit skinny. The car drives like new with the new arms, very worth spending the money! And you are lucky, I would be buying up every euro bumper I could find. Especially a rear one haha
That is the next task on mine to change all the bushings under. You probably already know that but if you go on a 225 tire, get ones without the extra lip to protect the rims otherwise it will rub the struts on the front, I've got Michelin and I can't even slide a finger between the back of the tire and the strut. On the rear it doesn't really matter, but if you go on coilovers it might need the fender lip to be rolled a bit. On the other hand the extra lip on the back gives a bulkier look (depending on the tire maybe). Here is mine if you wanna take a look ;) scontent-cdt1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/30073500_10155246706586319_8254720263716234383_o.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=e93c59c1bbdc7f3c33e81b0c7088759c&oe=5BFAE9ED
Maybe you can direct me to Where I Can Find Some Scroll Cages For the Peter Motor I Go on Both sides of it. Name look like one sided windmills if that makes sense
Love the channel, one thing I was told is not to put anything on the spark plugs as it can change the torque setting and you could over tighten them. Is that right?
Never really heard of that but then again I never tighten my spark plugs too much. Plus Id rather be able to remove plugs then worry about them seizing up!
Hey guys ! I was wondering if you had any good info somewhere about buying a US car as a canadian?? You guys do it quite a bit and the idea of rust free cars does sound appealing to me.
7:32 Not sure if anyone already mentioned it, but for E28 or any other old BMW parts, try Schmiedmann ( www.schmiedmann.com/ ) from Denmark. They have pretty much any part you can imagine, even if it's not on their online webshop.
Ehh, I suppose you guys probably know what you're talking about, but don't confuse warping discs for improper bedding on your brake pads. I had a Volvo S60R and I don't know how many people complained about "warped discs" on them on the forums when there was a bed-in process on the pads and literally no one followed it. I did the bedding process and... tada, everything was fine!
This was not a bed in issue. It's an undersized brake and rotor issue. Well documented but I can see what you're saying so will ensure to see if there's a bed-in process.
I had a 533i e28 and I can attest to the fact that the rotors do warp very easily. I replaced mine once, and just lived with it when they warped again.
E28 is my favorite BMW ever.Keep working....
Speed Academy needs to be at like 500k+ subs. By far one of my favorite channels.
Thank you, one day we hope!
It happened XD
Just found them and they’ve just hit! Awesome
I love classic BMWs so much! Can’t wait to be able to own and restore one!
FINALLY. It’s about time we’ve seen the e28 as a feature 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I've been loving me an e28 for the last 12 years, currently with 280k miles on the odo the thing runs like a champ. I don't drive it much anymore but not parting with anytime soon.
The e28 m5 is actually one of my favorite cars, they look sick fully done up
YES! YES! YES! I love e28 content! I've got an e28 that I'm restoring myself!
Love me some E28! Would love to see a full resto on this car, and an E39 M5 swap lol! Keep it up guys!
I feel like DP has Connie, and PT has 300 cars lol!
Nice to see this kind of video series come up. Not a build, just a refresh. It's like Speed Academy meets Chris Fix.
They approach the restoration with such a proactive concept..if you're reading this and happen to be in a bad mental space then worry yourself no more..think of yourself as an E28 and take the time to work on yourself on all aspects which will take time just as the restoration but enjoy the journey to a better version of yourself...
Finally the e28 series 😍😍 BIG 👍 guys 😁😁
What perfect timing. I just acquired an E28 M5 from a buddy for $500. Exterior is bad with some rust and the paint is shot since it was parked outside for a couple years. Low miles 80k, but needs a clutch. The interior is prestine!
Great Deal! If you wanna sell it let me know! Been looking for an M5 to restore for ages.
Even if it is in poor conditions it's still a min 10K car. Congrats!
Mugshot Marley maybe you can post a video of it. Would love to see it!
Mugshot Marley 500 no way I can’t even begin to believe that, was your friend on his death bed? Haha epic
Great video,lads.I have 2 e28's (Alpina B10-Australia kit,not factory, an m535i)
& an e30 coupe (in process of fitting m30b35 from an e34).Greetings from Brisbane,Australia.
Oh wow, you have some really rare E28s! Would love to own those.
Finally the BMW is getting some love! Looking forward for this series of video
290k miles on my 92 accord did a timing Belt air filter fuel filter fuel pump ignition coil ditributor (cap and rotor included) plugs. Started driving it more love it more pep more mpgs then the trans let's go😅
Finally! I feel like prices on these might appreciate after the new mission impossible movie haha
Finally a project to get excited about!
guess the backup camera install on the Tundra was all for nothing hahahaha
Haha that was the first thing I thought!
So that rear view camera is working really well. 😂😂😂
Love the channel guys, keep up the good work!
i just love e28's defentlly one of my dream cars
More e28 content please. Really love the e28
Keep the BMW love coming!
Finally a bmw on the channel!
Just acquired Burdungy red 88 528e. Can't wait to start tinkering with it. Good video
Time to put some seafoam through it now. With that filter oil job, glad this car doesn’t have an MAF.
Can’t believe I didn’t know about you guys 3 years ago!
Yes!!! Been waiting ages for some e28 content!
Finally some.bmw for the track .... I really want to see more of.this bmw.on the track
love the channel, and excited to see old BMWs!
Finally a real car on the channel 😉
I'm a simple man, I see BMW E28 in the title, I hit the like button.
Be still my beating heart, a BMW series? Can it really be true?
Whoa, that was a lot of oil on that filter!
Im excited to see how this overhaul goes!
HOLY SHIT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR WHAT FEELS LIKE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I'm talking about the heater motor that's underneath the hood against the firewall.
And the 2 squirrel cages 100 sided of the motor that pushes the air around. If that makes more sense sorry my first one didn't come out too well
Great vid makes me think back on the old days :) my first car was a E28 528 with Zender body kit regret i sold it was werry fun to drive
Can never have enough BMW/P-Car content!
Oil is only supposed to go on one side of the filter. Still love u guys.
why are you driving that in the winter, in ontario of all places! geez
I really don't see why a company hasn't started to make Euro style bumpers for e30s, e28s, and so on BMW's...all the ones i see are just as much as a real set from Europe.
They do, they're fiberglass and they cost $500US+ each...
There is a site called classiceuroparts.com which sell complete bumper sets. They are not cheap though.
It's got a kink in a few spots that would require a lot more work then cleaning up and painting the rusty one.
Looking forward for more content with this project. Keep up the good work guys.
Greets from Romania.
Here Australia for e28 parts I have many e30 euro bumpers and other bmw rare parts indeed parts like that are expensive.
Cool series, great change of pace.
I feel like a BMW that looks just this is having a heated track battle with a modified Nissan 510 somewhere. Not bad for a winter beater, just needs some goodies!
Wouldn't it have made more sense to send the old hood to a body shop? Or was it too far gone?
You guys deserve as much subscribers as MCM
THANK YOU! One day...
I like my UUC Evo 3 on my E46 328 but you just gotta make sure you try out some different transmission fluids to find one you like. im using RP sychromesh and its a bit of a crunchy shift if its under 25 C unless you get it pretty warm while spirited driving and its not ideal.
Bruhhhhhhhhhhh I can’t believe you hit that beauty
Super interested! Not a BMW guy but cool video. Excited to see more with the e28!
Didn't you have some E34 M5 wheels on it at one point? Those are sick.
you guys should have an intro catered to each car build in the series like how the s14 has its own intro just saying, regardless I always enjoy the content you guys bring keep it up
That car looks like a sweet daily! What part of Toronto are you guys at? You source parts at Bimmer Heaven at all?
Респект вам мужики за то что не бросили е28
Where's the k240? It needs finished before starting a new project. It's so close.
Waaaaaaaaaay too much oil on that air filter!! Gonna' have that shit all up in your intake, on your sensors....just a mess!!
Smashed it ten times!!
What was the problem with the rhino liner on the rear bumper?
Throws the slimy paper from the STP junk right on the decklid lol
Great videos! I was considering getting a replica alpina spoiler for my e28. The one on your car looks perfect. Who makes that one and where can I buy it? Thanks!
We bought this 5 years ago from an mye28.com member. They can be found on ebay but not sure the quality.
Speed Academy okay...I think I know who you’re talking about. Wasn’t sure how good those were but looks good enough on your car so I think I’ll give them a try. Thanks and keep the e28 videos coming!
That 2,7 was the basis for the 155kw South African 325iS ...
I have the front and rear euro bumpers available for the e28 that i want to donate to you guys along with the hood.
Wow, thats super generous! Shoot me an email peter@speed.academy
I would suggest to send your two bumpers with a technician specialized in repairing and chroming. After all they are hard to find ítems, and it is worth spending some bucks doing things right
When and if I do a real restoration then I will most certainly send them off to a proper rechroming facility.
Hello All, I am starting a project. What is the easiest engine swap or upgrade for an e28 1983? The engine is the M30B32.
The 1988 to 1992 M30s M30B35 is one of best, drops right in and are plentiful.
I am looking for a hood and trunk for my E21 and it's almost impossible in New England. I will more than likely be placing an order with wallothnesch sooner than later.
Great site! And might be worth ordering from there as the parts look new. That's HARD to find these days.
Aerospace 303 on all that vinyl!!! Save that dash before it's too late.
Dash is too far gone. Have a replacement but worried about the 2 days lost to swap the damn thing over!
Speed Academy cut the tamper proof bolts holding the steering column in while you are in there.
No! We want the k swap 240!
I need an E28 hood in Detroit, MI!
You are lucky PT, yours has a manual trans ! Judging by the look your winter tyres are 205 width ? Never really heard of that but then again I never tighten my spark plugs too much. Plus Id rather be able to remove plugs then worry about them seizing up!
All that oil you spray on your airfilter is going to the air mass meter. Only use paper filter.
Hey guys ! I was wondering if you had any good info somewhere about buying a US car as a canadian?? You guys do it quite a bit and the idea of rust free cars does sound appealing to me.
Honestly, the best info is on the Canada GOV site, it's got all the details and steps. Not that hard a procedure when you figure it out.
Did you just put the air filter on upside down?
Would it not be easier to reform the bent hood than resrpaying and fixing rust on that second hood?
No, we had a metal guy look at it, cheaper and easier to fix the other hood.
Speed Academy I hate when that happens.
The K&N filter was put back in upside down.
Will double check it!
M20 content!
FINALLY!
YES
Nice!! ( I think) Please clean your air filter twice a year....LOL
POR15 the entire underside of it!!
Bimmer heaven might have a hood
What color is that e28? Is that the factory color?
The major thing wrong is that it's in the US. Also, the gap of the plugs is wrong.
Vlad it's in Canada...
Awesome
Si vous en avez un a vendre sa m intéresse merci parce que ici en france elle se font rare ou en piteuse etat
Nice shirt! Where can I get one?
7:32 Not sure if anyone already mentioned it, but for E28 or any other old BMW parts, try Schmiedmann ( www.schmiedmann.com/ ) from Denmark. They have pretty much any part you can imagine, even if it's not on their online webshop.
Thank you! Thats a great resource site.
Fix the original hood. Any decent metal man can work that back straight.
11:00 Wow looks like a Celica Supra mk2
Hey bro! I finally posted a detailed video of my 84 533i on my channel last night. Let me know what you think! Thank you
Wow, how many cars do you guys own:o
Epic
I would have fixed the original hood. Way less hours in bodywork.
Ehh, I suppose you guys probably know what you're talking about, but don't confuse warping discs for improper bedding on your brake pads.
