I was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy a little over a year ago. To say it messes with your mind is 100% true. The hardest part is just waiting and feeling like you might never get better…then you slowly do. 100% recovered now 😄

No lingering symptoms, 100% recovered. I was given a 7 day prescription for prednisone and Acyclovir. Otherwise, I didn’t do anything other than wait it out.

I had Bells since I was a baby 👶🏾 my parents told me that the hospital said I was the youngest that they ever seen in 35 yrs old now. What hurts the most is that I look at my childhood pictures and see a half of a smile never experience a full smile or raising of two eyebrows. Now I have children my kids ask dad why you have one eye bigger than the other. It’s mild not noticeable only when I smile and talk a little but pray for me people because I still suffer in my ❤️ that I have bells. Please pray for me in my healing and direction of where to go for assistance and I will pray for you all as well.

** I truly hope someone can read this & gain hope** but you WILL BE OKAY. I remember when I first got it.. I was super down and scared. But I knew eventually it would go away. Staying positive is the first step. I first got it December 13th 2022. Now it’s Jan 5th and I’m about 90% healed. Take your medication, take your b12, run hot water on your face (every single) shower, do face exercises, massage your face & stay positive. That’s what I did. Don’t just sit around and let it run it’s course. Doing those little things HELP TREMENDOUSLY.. If you want it gone sooner than later then you have to go above & beyond. I even got acupunctures done. You’ll be okay I promise. Hopefully this helps someone 💛 you’re beautiful!

One important fact that I would to share is I remember my mother having the same symptoms as Bell's palsy. If you had Bell's palsy, please share this information with your children.

I received a diagnosis of Bell's Palsy five days ago, an experience that has heightened my appreciation for life and love. As someone who values positivity, I am beginning to recognize the significance of more than just outward appearances. Moving forward is essential. During my initial visit to the emergency room, while restocking my area, I encountered exemplary care from nurses Faith, Miranda, and Brittany, whose prompt action and compassion I deeply appreciate.
    Warm regards.

My dad has had it for 4 months now, I’m 25 and he’s 52 and it made me extremely worried/sad. It’s tough to see him the way he is but it is getting better!! He can move his face a bit more. But he’s still not quite there when it comes to full recovery. It can take up to a year or longer to get back to normal so I’m just hoping he will recover. I’m sure you will too just hang in there. It’s so random and can really happen to anyone.
I think Covid has been causing it in many people recently.

We go "to buy bread/anything" and everybody looks at us scared, they show kindness and care and they want to help us and show us that we are accepted, but!!!!! IT IS NOT PLEASANT! We are treated DIFFERENTLY and we sense it! It is heart breaking!! I had bells palsy 10 years ago and I am not fully recovered. I was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy in 2013. Sadly, I was never sent to a neurologist for tests and i have now had it for 5 years. I hate looking in the mirror knowing that i’m always going to see the paralysis in my face. At my age all I can think about is how ugly it makes me feel. When i was first diagnosed, i couldn’t close my left eye and slept with an eye patch, my eye watered constantly, my mouth is dropped, when i try to smile my eye looks closed but not all the way, i couldn’t taste anything on the left side of my mouth, and my ear was always hurting. my mouth regained taste and my ear stopped hurting but i still
live with the rest of the symptoms

I am recovering from Bell's Palsy (end of week 2) and I started having acupuncture. There is no way to know if the acupuncture is making the difference or if I'm recovering on my own. However, I feel that I experienced a huge improvement directly after the acupuncture sessions, so I would encourage others to try it. I was a skeptic, but I feel so strongly that it helped that I'm commenting so that other people can consider it as an option. This has been upsetting and scary. If you have Bell's, stay positive, rest a lot, listen to your doctor, and consider acupuncture.

Every time it comes back I get depressed, lose my self esteem, become a shell of the person I used to be. I still struggle with feeling helpless, unlovable, ugly... It sucks when you can't explain this to your family or friends and have to deal with the self loathe that comes with the disease alone. I still don't have my smile back and my face is still droopy if you really look at me. In Kenya Botox and surgery to improve on your appearance is considered unethical so that's definitely out of the question until I have enough of my own money..

But for months I’ve had painful knots in my neck and behind my ear. It affects me on the right side. I’ve bitten my tongue so hard a few times but bad in the beginning of the attack. So much jaw pain, grinding my teeth. I think the infection came from my lymph nodes. The eye irritation it the worst. There are exercises to do to help ease up the frozen muscles. I was told a bacterial infection causes this. And stress.

I've had it since I was 11 im 27 now. Recently it's caused me pain. I just had an MRI of the brain. Neurologist says I could have m.s. no one knows much about this disease. My Bell's never healed 100 percent. I can't completely smile on one side but yet the facial nerves pull on this side. So I have lines on that side. I also have a fold on the inner corner of the Bell's eye. I've been told it's not noticable unless I tell someone. I was told the only treatment is meds and physical therapy. When I was 11 a neurologist approached myself and my guardian for an experimental procedure. They said they were gonna do surgery on my brain but there was a high mortality rate? It was like 50/50. I declined. To put that pressure on a kid is insanity. So I've "suffered I silence" for years. Tuesday I get a diagnosis for the pain. I stupidly looked at my own MRI images and I have no idea what I'm looking for. I'm asking the universe for good vibes that it's only nerve damage.

Woke up with Bell’s palsy on Christmas Day. It started off very mild, I noticed my right eye was watering when I woke up and I was struggling to keep water in my mouth as I was drinking.
As the day went on I started to realise that something was wrong. I was losing movement on the right side of my face by the hour. At first I worried that I’d had a stroke, but I’m only 19 so inside I knew that wasn’t the case. After a quick trip to the walk in department I got diagnosed with BP and put on steroid treatment. Awful timing on Christmas though as there was nowhere open to pick up the prescription. I had to wait until the morning.
By the morning the right side of my face was completely paralysed. I could no longer smile or create any expression. This was when it began to get difficult. Simple everyday tasks such as talking, eating, drinking, brushing my teeth and even sleeping became a chore. I’ve completely isolated myself since, only leaving the house for doctors checkups.
It’s day 8 now, I’ve began to notice movement back in my cheeks once again. It’s nothing huge but feels incredible being able to feel my face muscles move again. I’m hoping this is the start to my recovery. As today’s gone by I feel as if I’m very slowly gaining back facial movement. I suppose this can only be a good sign. From what I’ve read a some people will not see improvement for weeks or even months. I’m hoping this early improvement will mean an earlier recovery. Time will tell. I’ve got uni again in ten days, but I’m not letting it get me down.
Moral of the story. Bell’s palsy’s awful. I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. It’s probably one of the most mentally damaging experiences I’ve had in my life. It will get better though, and you just have to power through it, you’ll be okay.

For me this started a few weeks ago with a bad cold and hollow ringing in my ear - it came to full circle this morning, when I couldn't feel the right side of my face. My tongue started to loose sensation a few days ago - and everything tasted flat (including water). Its very scary - I went to the ER this morning thinking I was having a stroke. My advice to anyone thats going through it go to the ER. Don't wait god forbid it is a stroke. My eye is burning pretty bad - mine is caused by a bad middle ear infection. I don't know about the recovery time, but I can tell you it sucks. Those people talking about alternatives and all that should just go to the Doctor. I work in construction and it’s not safe to work without being able to blink my eye. I have to take a disability leave from work because I can’t risk anything getting into my eye or if I wear an eye covering to close it, I can’t work without being able to see out of one eye. So that’s isn’t true but otherwise correct that time will tell.
