I am a DEF fan, I have a 7.2 set up all definitive technology, for front speaker I have a pair of ST-L + SVS elevation Dolby speakers “ 9.2 “ Because I’m never satisfied I am still thinking about adding a subwoofer. I was thinking about SVS but I think I’m going to stick with definitive because I like the look and they sound good for movie. For my music room I’m going to stick with kef and Rel
So the 2 subs I had to chose from for my 570 review have quirks that are relevant to mention here, extending the theme of my first comment. The JBL E250P (12" PollyPlas cone Front firing W/ Down firing port), or the Infinity PS28 (8" CMMD cone Front Firing W/ Dual Rear port). I would have used the PS28 so as to not confuse the old JBL sub with the newer JBL line. But I chose the E250P because the extra brute force from being bigger and having extra (Hulk smash!) thump from the down firing port would be more fun for actual movie use. The PS28 would be better if only I had 2. Anyways, the quirks similar to this Def Tec sub are; JBL E250P Has no auto-power bypass, and it makes an audible chirp when it gets turned on. Because Ideally a sub like this is best when it's only doing like 50Hz and below. Thus you may not hear it doing that extra oomph, and any JBL Sub from the 21's century will disintegrate your Grandma, even if She's 85 feet away in an other part of the house you THOUGHT the sub could not reach. The PS28 apparently has no auto power at all and just stays on. Maybe it has a blown fuse for that or something? I got it from a thrift store and it is missing it's 4 feet from the bottom too. I really wish Infinity would bring this sub back or someone would clone it because it's really good in ways I'm unable to communicate right now. I linked this article in my 570 review about how exotic speaker cone materials don't matter as much as ppl think. Well, my own response to that article is the PS28 sub. It sort of just makes the thump happen with less lag or fussing about. It's the only 8" sub with these dimensions and form factor. There are 2 new Infinity PS28 subs on amazon for 500 SpaceBucks each and I want them so bad, but if kpaceguy bought them both, that would be the second best thing evar.
I have the same sub and there is white noise coning from the sub that is reasonably loud. Does yours have this? This is not typical hum or buzz, it is there even without any connection to the amp. I am trying to figure out if this is normal or if it is defective.
It can be normal but not because of the sub. If you unplug the subwoofer cable from the sub and it stops then it's not the sub it's your cable or the electrical interference around the cable
@Kpaceguy I returned it for a new one and the white noise is gone. The sub was defective. I am loving the sub BTW. Everyone comments on how clean the bass is.
FYI: This is not a 500 Watt subwoofer as you keep repeating....for those that not want to be mislead, the more accurate spec is 200 Watt continuous RMS
Lack of an auto-power bypass can be a problem at times. Like if your sub level is set too low on your receiver, you gotta set it to zero and then get the volume proper with the volume knob on the sub. 20 Years ago, on my first system, the satellites were crossed at 200Hz cus that was the only option, and when the sub would shut off (often) from too low of volume it would make the sound so hollow. Like: "AHH! Wha Happen? it sounds so weak now." Luckily that sub had an auto-power bypass. That switch was like one of the first things I learned, lolz.
Question.. I have a old but great sounding Yamaha YSP1 Sound bar and in need of a sub. Will the DN8 hookup (hardwired) with this sound bar? If so what extra cable will I need?
Thanks for this review. I was wondering about Definitive T. I have the old 8000 super cube. Yeah, the old-school Definitive Technology. It plays very loud. The only thing is this Amplifier cuts off for no reason. On the display when I have the volume up I have seen it clip sometimes. I noticed it clipping. But it will go out soon. When it clips that is a high volume sometimes that part's okay but when it goes out cuts off, I have to do like you do on the old TVs remember when you have to hit it with something threaten it with a hammer then it starts working just wondering if it had been damaged from the moving crew about 4 years ago. Now I'm looking for a new Subwoofer. And by the way I love that rhythmic subwoofer you have that would be a dream subwoofer to me.
My DT ProSub 800 went out(making noise) after 13 years. 😔 Looking for suggestions. Setup Denon-AVR16-11, DT Pro 800 Front L and R, DT Pro Center 1000, Ole School Sony 3-way floor speakers(Rear) SS-F5000. My show off movie is Olympus Has Fallen that AC-130 scene IYKY 😂 thank you in advance
I'm thinking of doing similar And getting Descend 12 for near field. I want a second sub, I just don't have the space for another s3000i. How are you liking the secondary smaller sub setup? Its been a month or so with it.
I have two Def Tec Supercube reference. 1 active 14" with 2 slave 14 inch.... They do rock... Just ask my neighbour 🤣🤣🤣 (Neigbour is a diffent house btw😉)

If your soundbar has a "sub out" plug you can use an rca cable
I would spend the money on a new sound bar before I spent it on a sub of that caliber to pair with it
@@Kpaceguy I first needed a sub... there's always time to see if the YSP1 will hold it's own against it.. I believe it will easily.
@@Kpaceguy yes it does. I wish it had a LFE port but it does not. TY!

Were you able to compare the sub with your rhythmik in music applications? Would love to hear your thoughts on that.
I chose not to. There's $1000 difference between the two. Don't know That it would be fair
What do you think about the 8in one for movies only
Nope
Great review!
I appreciate it
Yo Kpace quick showdown if u can ...which sub would u choose hsu research vtf-2 mk5 or svs pb 1000 pro ?
Well that's not even a comparison. HSU
@@Kpaceguy thanks dude U just confirmed my choice 👍
Hi bro How about Miller and Kreisler v12+Comparison with this deftech
I'm thinking of doing similar
And getting Descend 12 for near field. I want a second sub, I just don't have the space for another s3000i.
How are you liking the secondary smaller sub setup? Its been a month or so with it.
It does very well and helps even out the holes in the bass that one sub just can't fix

can you review the Cerwin Vega SL-15 ?
Just depends how popular it is
Hello, how does this compare with OSD Black Trevoce12 Triple 12" Powered Subwoofer 800W, DSP with App Control
Not so sure. Haven't heard it yet
@@Kpaceguy Thank you for the quick reply, love watching your reviews. Keep up the good work.

I have a definitive technology pro sub 800 it's a good sub
How does this compare with the svs sb1000 pro?
The svs digs deeper but not as smooth of a response. Equally loud.
Interesting never heard much about these type subs.
Yes these subwoofers are very impressive.
I Think it's time to do direct comparisons ro it's competition.
Def tech has fallen off. Products look dated and sound quality has been ok. Definitely not worth the money anymore
