    How does it compare to Cascadero and Through the Desert - which would you rather play in general?

      cascadero i have not played (though i'd definitely like to) but for my tastes rebirth is hugely superior to through the desert thanks the the variable objectives

    So you're playthrough is one of the few that displays the player taking turns from the perspective of the board in portrait. Other playthroughs from other content creators show the players taking turns from the side of the board. This board I find to really shine from the portrait perspective instead of the landscape perspective if that makes sense. What are your thoughts and experience on viewing the board from different perspectives while playing? Also, have you played the Ireland side? If so, what are your thoughts on 2 player mode of Scotland vs Ireland boards?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo 2 місяці тому +1

      oh i completely agree... it makes me wince a bit to see the other channels filimng the board rotated because i think the game loses some of its flavor. that said, i think it's only an issue when watching a video. IRL no matter what angle you're looking at, you end up feeling like you're looking at a map of Scotland. it's only on camera that it suddenly feels like you're looking at some map for a fantasy landscape. A weird mind trick.
      unfortunately, i didn't get a chance to try the ireland map, so i can only comment on what i've seen on the KS page. it sounds cool, i especially like the public objectives race. wish i had a chance to try it, we already enjoyed the game so much this only elevates it in my eyes :)

      Thank you. It's helpful to know the beauty of the board isn't lost depending on how you are sitting in relation to the game. I don't own any tile laying games, so this has the potential to be the first in my collection.

      @@castaway9185 it's a great starting point, especially now that they've revealed details about the ireland side of the board, that ramps the complexity up a bit, so the game has room to grow :)

    Perhaps someone could explain why in the future we care about monasteries and castles? would have been better if it was set in the past.

      i just asked claude.ai for its thoughts, and here's some answers for you :)
      Castles as Seats of Power:
      -Castles represent fortitude and endurance, having withstood the test of time and survived the ravages of the climate apocalypse.
      -Their strong, sturdy construction and defensive architecture symbolize the resilience and fortitude required by the rebuilding civilization.
      -Reclaiming and restoring these historical structures could signify the re-establishment of order, authority, and a central governing power after a period of chaos and collapse.
      Monasteries as Sources of Objectives:
      -Monasteries were historically centers of learning, spirituality, and the preservation of knowledge.
      -In the post-apocalyptic world, monasteries could represent the rediscovery and preservation of ancient wisdom, including knowledge about sustainable living practices and harmony with nature.
      -The reconstruction of monasteries could symbolize the pursuit of a more mindful, spiritual, and environmentally conscious way of life, in line with the goal of living in harmony with nature.
      -Objectives associated with monasteries could involve the recovery of lost knowledge, the cultivation of sustainable agriculture, or the promotion of eco-friendly practices.

      for a second opinion, i put the same question to chatGPT:
      Castles as Seats of Power
      -Historical Significance: Castles historically were centers of power and governance. In a world rebuilding itself, these structures symbolize a return to order and stability. Reestablishing them as seats of power would resonate with their original purpose, providing a sense of continuity and legitimacy.
      -Strategic Locations: Castles were often built in strategic locations such as hilltops, river bends, or borderlands. These locations would still be advantageous for defensive purposes, resource management, and communication, making them ideal for new settlements or centers of governance.
      -Symbol of Resilience: Castles, with their thick walls and imposing structures, symbolize resilience and strength. Rehabilitating them would be a powerful metaphor for humanity's resilience and determination to survive and rebuild after the climate apocalypse.
      -Cultural Heritage: Castles are often viewed as treasures of cultural heritage. Restoring them could be seen as a way to reclaim and honor human history, inspiring people and fostering a sense of identity and pride.
      Monasteries as Sources of Objectives
      -Centers of Knowledge: Historically, monasteries were not just religious centers but also hubs of learning, with monks preserving knowledge through manuscripts and libraries. In a post-apocalyptic world, rebuilding monasteries could represent the preservation and dissemination of crucial knowledge needed for rebuilding civilization and living in harmony with nature.
      -Harmonious Living: Monasteries often embody principles of self-sufficiency, sustainability, and harmony with nature through practices like gardening, herbal medicine, and careful resource management. These values would be essential in a world striving to rebuild sustainably.
      -Spiritual Guidance: Monasteries were centers of spiritual and moral guidance. In a world recovering from an apocalypse, such guidance could be vital for fostering hope, community, and ethical rebuilding practices.
      -Sanctuaries of Peace: Monasteries traditionally provided refuge and sanctuary. In a chaotic post-apocalyptic world, they could serve as safe havens for the weary, places of healing and rest, and centers for rebuilding not just physically but also spiritually and emotionally.

      here's the actual question i put to both AIs:
      _imagine game in a post climate apoclypse future a milenia from now where humanity is rebuilding and trying to be in harmony with nature. in this scenario, former castles are targets for bringing back online as seats of power, and former monasteries when rebuilt are sources of objectives for players._
      _thematically, why would these be the case_

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo 2 місяці тому

      if i was answering for myself, i would have gone with how the cultural significance and implicit resiliency of castles are important in a world where humanity almost lost everything, and the symbolic repurposing of monasteries is meaningful as they're now being used as sources of knowledge that _don't_ put humanity over nature, but instead remind us we should live in harmony with nature.
