awesome scene, my favourite ever. i have never been able to get reece shearsmiths face as he emerges from the tent out of my mind. the music and the tableau makes it something very special indeed. hats off to all involved
This is probably the standout scene from the film although the dialogue and visuals are just amazing throughout (the darkened sun, hands outstretched etc). If I'm honest it did really scramble my brain the first time around (but often the best films do) and I've not been able to watch it again since. I have however watched this clip again and again. It's not accessible but it is a classic and brilliantly written, acted and directed. Watch the full film. You won't regret it. Thanks for posting.
There's an unnerving sexual undertone to all the interactions between O'Neil and Whitehead. Considering Whitehead walks back out fully dressed and in some kind of trance-like state, it's more likely that O'Niel just performed some kind of alchemy ritual rather than literally violating him, but it still has that rape-y feel to it.

@@AJ-tp9bk after watching this for years, i think i understand what might be going on. i think he gets tied up so he cant move, gets smacked across the face which is why he bleeds out of his mouth a little bit, and is forced fed mushrooms in some vague attempt to give him divination powers, which explains why he screams from terror (most peoples experiences with bad mushroom trip) but then comes walking out of the tent with a smile and bliss (mushroom peak after dosage sets in)

Is it just me or doesn't the haunting song in this theme remind anyone of something that Brian Eno would have composed? I hear it and it brings to mind the Prophecy theme from the 1984 David Lynch big screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune.
he's not possessed. he's gone mad after being forced to scrye for the devil dude...during which he saw the prophecy of the dark encroaching cloud (chaos) that would ensue lest he become submissive to the devil dude.
Thematt7890 The screaming clearly represents a possession state, as one sees in Candomble or Santaria, or even in Christian rituals etc. which sufferers describe variously as the pain of giving birth or as pure ecstasy, sometimes both. I didn't find it particularly odd.
***** not rape. he saw the prophecy of the dark encroaching cloud he has flashbacks on later. he was being forced to scrye in the tent...in order to find "treasure"...and only in such a submissive state of madness could one actually believe there was a literal treasure. keep in mind this is all taking place in his head.
I was expecting a bit more from the film, having heard great things. Certainly some intense scenes and great moments, but overall the films style of cinematography is not my cup of tea.
If you are a normal person, do not waste your valuable life watching this film. You will not get that time back. This is for people who have nothing else better to do.
No matter how you slice it, these guys were truly outstanding in their field.
This scene still scares the crap out of me eight years later.
A slow, creeping, maddening mystery.

Reece has always been amazing, sells it so well. This scene bugs me. so 10/10 horror
when he emerges from the tent....its one of the best moments in UK film.....with that score by Blanck Mass playing in the background.
Hands down one of the single best scenes in cinema I have ever seen.
Agreed.
Very reminiscent of Seventh Seal and Bergman generally. Also touches of Stalker in this movie.
Rhett Broadby hey good name
I thought of The Seventh Seal, too. Beautiful, yet beautifully disturbing film.

Precisely my experiance.
It's like an aphex twin video

R of the mind
What the hell happened to him in the tent?
Everything
He goes in screaming and comes out smiling in a blissful daze.
And then bleeds on the grass
@@longsnoutpug7248 Why was he bleeding and from where, may I ask?

This movie resembles Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man", only set 200 years earlier in England. It looks great.
Seeing this scene out on context with the rest of the film won't make sense. I'm sorry I uploaded this for my own benefit.
Bit like my last day at Download Festival
I'm weak hahaha
Aphex Twin (Richard D. James) comes out of the tent looking like a bloody madman!
The man in the tent was put under a spell by the Wizard O Neil & used as a human loot detector in order to find a buried tresure.
i didnt get this film, but i cant stop thinking about it!!!!
This is so Pinteresque, so much unexplained, so much creepiness bubbling up from the surface
when i first saw this scene i assumed o'neill had raped whitehead in the tent, which made this just unbelievably disturbing
I 've felt the same perception, awesome film anyway...!
@@69cuervos efgj
I thought he had lobotomised him i was disturbed to my core
At first i assumed whitehead was being mutilated or flayed but thankfully that wasn't the case.
This scene blew my fucking mind; so twisted! A true WTF moment
Creepy and beautiful at the same time.
Honestly more of an interesting scene than a scary one.
Entire movie is pure genius!

Blanck Mass-Chernobyl
Very similar to his beautiful track Ascent from the Apollo album
well done all and Ben Wheatley, a fantastic achievement which will be remembered for many years......
I'm in love with this comment section.
Very sad. It reminds me of the scene from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" after McMurtry's lobotomy.
poor mcmurty :[
XomB is correct, you only get the full effect by watching the whole film. I agree it's a stunning sequence
Gave me anxiety when I watched this for the first time. Was awful. Great film.
scary and beautiful all at once

Josh Cornell He's possessed because he has a rope tied around him. Either metaphor works.
+Josh Cornell Ritual death (screams) and rebirth (tent, rope (umbilical cord)).
Edit: Symbolic ritual death and rebirth, that is.
I love this movie
360p AND clipping audio??? Hell yeah
1:18 Reece Shearsmith sees yet another lazy minded person compare Inside No.9 to Black Mirror on twitter
Or somebody comparing little Britain to the league of gentlemen?
this film will make you think more than any movie you've seen before even with explanations
Ben Wheatley. From this...to Meg 2. That is genuinely depressing.
Lord above what is that music? I must have it for myself
Blanck Mass "Chernobyl"
Thanks bro
The bit in mid-scream where he goes "wahh hah haaa" in a slightly singsong way is unintentionally funny.
The screaming DOES drag on for a bit, making it look rather hard to take seriously.
Thematt7890 The screaming clearly represents a possession state, as one sees in Candomble or Santaria, or even in Christian rituals etc. which sufferers describe variously as the pain of giving birth or as pure ecstasy, sometimes both. I didn't find it particularly odd.
fucking awesome scene
DO NOT BE ANOTHER SLAVE
Can anybody tell me what this music is please, I need it
Blanck Mass - Chernobyl
iain ridley thankyou!
iain ridley sorry, i meant the music at the beginning?
+bennystalebread123 Jim Williams - Walking Here, Two Shadows Went

Something worse than death happened in that tent
What is the song at the beginning
??
Dark matter.
Whats the name of the music ?
Chernobyl

Tried to watch this movie twice, don't waste your time.
Yes, I don't know why we all are fascinated by this scene. Just eerie and mysterious, I guess.
doesn't the alchemist say something about this guy his loins later? it really seemed like rape, thats'what made this scene so creepy to me

you will.
What...happens?

I've uploaded it on my account.
Similar to that tent scene in Brokeback Mountain..
Not at all.

your not watching it at the cinema and your not watching the entire film. Even then its not scary its more unsetteling. unless you have a blunt mind.

"What this part lacks is the civilising influence of women"
I don't get it, this scene made me belly laugh 😆 it's hilarious. What a bunch of c***s 😆
This movie is crap. Facts.
