I remember celebrating my 23rd birthday 34 years ago, and this song was played more than 15 times that night. The neighbors came out on there galleries and verandas and danced, while I celebrated with my dear family and friends. A great time was had by all. Lots of food and alcohol. This all happened in a beautiful and friendly area called Union Road, Four Roads, Diego Martin. Trinidad where I lived. I still love this song tremendously. Sweet memories.
Originally born in Haiti live in Canada for the past 35 years. I can tell you in 77-78 Grammacks was big in Montreal. To this day still love that slow cadence. Specially when you have a sweetie in your arms....
I cannot explain the memories this song evokes every time I hear it. It go down in history as one of the most timeless pieces of music ever created in the Caribbean.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!! je remercie tous ces musiciens qui m ont permis de passer une enfance avec mes parents au rythme de cette musique qui raisonne encore. Mille mercis
OH MY GOD!!! Finally we have found it. We first heard this song in South America more than 40 years ago. I remember dancing to this song over and over as it played on the Juke Box. This is one of the happiest songs I have ever heard. It is a favorite of my wife as well.

This song was covered by La Banda, a Costa Rican group back in the 70's and 80's. Very popular in Central America and heard in some other zones in Latin America and spanish areas in U.S. Nice song!
I love this song i actually grew up on the Spanish Version called La Avispa meaning the Bee but it's basically the same song except in Spanish. Discovered the original version by Gammacks later on in life but love it.
***** There have been many versions like by Fiebre Amarilla from El Salvador Wganda Kenya from Colombia Los Rolands from Honduras. But the most popular was by La Banda de Costa Rica everyone knew that version it's the one i remember hearing when i was a kid.
i just read an article about him on montraykreyol . org and was curious about his music. meh patois isn't the best but I hope he rests in peace one love domnica from ah trini

For your edification, I was 20 years old when that song came out. Remember this: T h e pproperr speeellingggg of the wooord is (C-O-M-P-A-S)
