I dont know, I see a few of you ripping on Danko unfairly here. Those are some of the most distinct and hard to emulate vocals in metal. I think he did a great job making them his own.

That was fun. I enjoyed that. Not sure I would class Priest and Motorhead as NWOBHM as such but they were certainly amongst it as the influential elder statesmen and of course quite rightly reaped the rewards. Priest were a gleaming chrome plated USA bothering act by the time of Electric Eye.
Charlie is an incredibly under-rated drummer. Not to mention his guitar skills as well. But drumming, such a unique and talented player. One thing I appreciate about Charlie is his ability to swing. Those slightly offset eighth notes even while playing a double bass pattern that most drummers would play straight and flat. Charlie breaths life into the rhythm of the track with strength and dignity.

Media had sold wrongly one thing . Judas Priest is from the first wave . Not at all the Nwobhm . Formed 1969 , remember ? They re 10 years on the road with 5 studio Albums and 1 live since 1974 when the Nwobhm came out .

In 70''s they were heavier than a lot of others bands since they were the guys that radicalized the genre in modern form then. Sometimes after they were harder yeah , but lets face it that except Rapid fire , Metal gods , grinder , Steeler , Riding on the wind , SFV or Defenders album , event it have great songs , it was more american oriented . But anyway , that don't mean either they were from the nwobhm.
More like the second, "middle" wave if you ask me. They were more or less from the generation where Scorpions, Thin Lizzy, Rainbow, UFO, Budgie, Riot (or even Kiss and AC/DC if we include more hard rock-oriented artists) belonged. They gained mainstream success in the early 80s though.

Although I think lots of classic heavy metal from that period of time was like that: Ozzy's solo work was more radio-friendly than his early albums with Sabbath; DIO the band was more commercial than Dio's Rainbow; bands like Saxon or Accept had a lot of AC/DC-influenced "uplifting" songs and catchy anthems; Scorpions became increasingly americanized through the decade; Maiden themselves stayed always loyal to their artistic prog roots but once Dikinson joined they mastered the art of the catchy, big and melodic arena rock choruses; Manowar was very anthemic and stadium-oriented at times...

Murders is a highly underrated song .
It's one of the real bangers off that album, along with Purgatory and of course the title track
