The only great American composer the Mozart of America he was called. Frederic Chopin said when he was 13 "Give me your hand, my child; I predict that you will become the king of pianists."
@@Francois_Dupont born in New Orleans in 1829. That was years after the Louisiana Purchase so I think it’s likely Gottschalk spoke primarily English. I have actually searched wide to confirm/deny this , so if you have any sources I’d love to see them.
I was wondering if he has an album I could buy. I really like this music and the way Mr or Ms DeWitt plays it, but I don't see any album links on that webpage. Other performers have albums on amazon.com, but I see no way to confirm their quality.
Using music software, it identified this production of Gottschalk to pianist Bob Noble from the album "28 Piano Pieces, Vol. Two," 2013. It's better late than never. *thumbs up*
@@Michael-rs8hk It's not a live performance. This is a rendition on a sampled piano sound using a midi input. The rhythms are too perfect and the resonances and pedal are not characteristic of a real piano recorded acoustically.
Guys hes playing cuban music,DONT YOU FORGET!!! then accidentally born ragtime lol few years after his dead and you americans always ignore this, fine i know truth hurts. the whole of his compositions where based on cuban music. there catered even one that it is not , he was good yeah i do not say the opposite, but all of this virtuosism is cuban tecchnique achieved working hard at habana on the way to pay his french studies of the conservatoire de paris. Americas chopin????
He was from New Orleans, and used to go to Congo Square and listen to the gathered slaves making music, which was the inspiration for many of his compositions. They came from all sorts of backgrounds, so your statement that it all came from Cuba is wrong; it was an amalgamation. Also, Cuban culture had minimal impact on the culture of New Orleans, Spain ruled Louisiana briefly and the society remained overwhelmingly French for quite some time after the Louisiana purchase. If any West Indies ethnic group had a strong impact, it was the Haitians. Here is a link to a short article on the relationship between Haiti and New Orleans: gonola.com/2014/03/24/nola-history-the-new-orleans-haitian-connection.html

Beautiful!!
How scandalous! Oh, how my wife adores this song!
by clicking the 'show more' button just above the comments and beneath the screen, all kinds of wonderful information can often be found. such as, "Performance and content copyright © 2011 W.A. DeWitt." you might try clicking the 'show more' button yourself sometime instead of making rude demands. writing in all capital letters is an intensely annoying habit that some people have, but i suppose it serves its purpose.
lmao

Tout à fait d'accord avec vous : nul n'est prophète en son pays, dit-on
cependant, Louis Moreau n'est pas français, puisqu'il est né en Louisiane.
Ah ok, donc Nicolas Sarkozy est hongrois...
