sp505 user here, i watch these sp303 beatmaking videos as inspiration cuz theyre basically the same sampler. and also, this beats fuckin great, keep goin man
Bonjour, je viens de découvrir votre chaîne UA-cam, et votre histoire d'interruption de deux ans de poster des vidéos est étonnante, tant mieux pour vous car j'ai adoré votre côté Beatmaker ! 😊👍
Oh man, I feel that. I started on an MPC2000XL (which I actually sold a few years ago) and when I bought my 404A I couldn’t stand it at first…now I absolutely love the SP workflow and sound, took a while though.
@@_sugr.skull_ There's something liberating about the SP's. I have a modern MPC, so I wanted something more raw, portable, limited, with less fluff. I'm absolutely cheating because the MK2 is easy mode compared to the old ones, but I love it.
Would you share what drew you to these sample selections? Specifically the two albums you sampled drums/perc from - were you already familiar with these (stuff you sampled before) or did you dig for them (the art form of happy accidents)? Also, since you have three SP’s - is the 303 your fav? Loving your tutorial style, btw. So clean and clear to understand! Great beats!
Aww thank you so much!!! I try to go through all my records and mark down which ones have drums/percussion so that it’s easy to find later on. As for my favourite SP…I love my 303 for it’s sound but for speed and ease of use I’d have to say that the 404A is my favourite…but once I finally pick up an MKII I bet I’ll be obsessed with it lol
@@_sugr.skull_ gotcha. I've got an SX and a record player, but my beat making still happens mostly in Ableton on my macbook. I try to keep my sample sources strictly from vinyl, but I'm finding myself transferring vinyl to computer when it comes to drum breaks, since its just so much easier to catalog these sounds on the computer. Instead of putting a record on 'in the moment.' I suppose this is lazy lol. I do enjoy straight vinyl-SX though. The process of chopping with pads, buttons and knobs can be pretty relaxing. I don't go much further than my x bar loop though - sequencing on the SP series leaves a lot to be desired. I tried the MKII, but it felt like it had too much going on and the jumpy waveform screen (while zooming in and out) drove me nuts. The primitive simplicity of it's predecessors kinda wins. You might love it though, a lot of people do!
Wish I could subscribe twice my dude! I've been on a similar hiatus and surprisingly my channel has also grown while I was gone, stoked! Lately I've been feeling like I need to get creative again and this video definitely inspired me. Welcome back, and awesome video! Really enjoyed watching your process.
Do you ever put samples onto the cf card from the comp? If so, what reader do you use for that? (I’ve had a huge problem finding cf card readers that work)
Yes. There IS learning curve to it though. I found it much less intuitive then its predecessors. Imagine having an MPC and an SP fused all into 1...that's the mk 2 in my opinion. It might be your thing...@@_sugr.skull_
Oh ya, sometimes it’s a bit of a headache…I’ll mess around with the start and end points to get it as close as possible…but if I can’t get it quite right then I’ll cheat a little and just fix it in Ableton with some warping.
Hey! I’m using the Numark PT01 Scratch…I also installed a separate pitch control called the Ultra Pitch, but I’m not sure if they’re available anymore. What sampler are you using?
this is one of the best demonstrations of using the sp devices on youtube. this channel is becoming a huge help for me. salute

Got myself an MK2. Coming from an MPC, I feel an absolute dumbass using that thing. I can't understand how people use the OG ones

Oh for sure! I definitely need to get my hands on an MK2 sometime soon.
Did you lose weight? I’m happy you back! What vinyl player do you have?
I did! ☺️ thanks for noticing!…I’m using the Numark PT2 scratch
@@_sugr.skull_ can you dj scratch?
@@_sugr.skull_ of course you look good man!
Yup 😊 it’s not like super good, but it has a built in fader and stuff
damn what a great video, i really learned a lot ! ill try to emulate what you did on roland's new sp (the mkII)
🙏 thanks so much! I definitely need to get my hands on an mkII one of these days

I’ve actually never done that. I’ve only done it on the 404A, but that’s just a SD card.
I’m going to re watch this

This may be a dumb question, but what laptop are you using to record? Thanks and dope music.
Not dumb at all…it’s a MacBook Pro :) and thanks so much!!

No worries at all 😊
Do you ever have trouble getting things to loop properly after resampling?

Much love
How do you export or get your beats made on the 303 to a computer?
I just record them into Ableton. Line out on the 303 to the line in on my audio interface :)
@@_sugr.skull_ and which audio interface are you using?
I’m using the Tascam US-16x08 :)
Hey! I was looking into getting a cheap record player just for sampling and I want to know what one you use.

whats that piece of outboard rack looking gear "above" the SP?
That’s my audio interface for getting my music from my samplers into my computer ☺️

love these videos! Do you run your turntable directly into the SP or through a pre-amp first?
Thank you so much!! No, my turntable has a built in pre-amp
