I have to say that I didn't expect you to end up having a pretty decent, polite and adult conversation with these people, judging from the failed attempts in the past to try to get past the 'I cant speak English' part. This group must be the better ones of most of those I've seen in HP. Well done to you when I finally heard them say 'thanks for explaining and we understand now'. I actually saw a male adult stopping his kid from mimicking the guard's march whilst you were speaking with the ladies. ❤

Well done, John in your diplomatic way of educating these tourists. Hope they pass on what they've learnt to their friends.
Goodness, we wouldn't go to Israel and make fun of their military! Absolutely not and unbelievable previously they thought it ok to do to our soldiers. They especially should show respect bearing in mind what happened in history .... need I say more.

As I said yesterday, John, you are the most wonderful unofficial ambassador of Horse Guards. Given the chance, as you were by this lovely family, you are able to explain the workings of HGs, its history and its need for respect and hopefully, admiration.
I knew that you felt defensive at the beginning of the conversation, expecting the worst (as we’ve seen at times) followed by a relaxed explanation of the gatesman’s duties. They were genuinely interested and engaging and seemed to understand your conversation. You truly were able to turn their visit around in the right direction, stopping the ridicule of the guard.
The clown prince of Spain was a different story entirely. He should have been tossed out by the MOD officers.
Did you attempt to speak to him after the video ended?
    With love & admiration always,
    Lynn in Michigan USA

Your conversation with this group was very valuable. As a Jewish (not orthodox) person, I am aware that the very orthodox Jews live rather cloistered lives. I personally believe thats why their social interactions that we've seen at Horse Guards have been so strange. I was very happy that this group really tried to listen and understand what you were telling them. In Israel, Orthodox Jewish men had been exempt from serving in the military, but that's recently changed.

I wonder now, John, why they didnt have all these ‘rules’ put up in the first place. It is such a different atmosphere not having people crowd and touch the horse or the reigns! Makes for a much more gentle watch. However, there are still ‘those’ who need to do better…..obviously! Thank you again for your time and effort. Best channel for horse guards!!!! Love from America.

I think maybe they realize & have more respect for the military than the ones in London. 🤷 Mainly because the military is an important part of the culture in Israel. Hopefully tho, the ones who live in London will see this and learn. They were quite pleasant. I don't think they totally understand, but at least they were willing to listen.

If they are from Israel you would think they would know they are active duty soldiers, that they'd show respect after all Israel still has national service and as the world is seeing / witnessing a military focused nation.
Thanks John, you told them in a polite and calm manner about respect, more so as they initially approached you in a passive aggressive way.
I sure don't miss doing guard duty in London, miss the job and the friends but not that part up close to tourists.

What a difference the "off limits" white lines have made for everyone. The horses and the visitors. All much safer and calmer now. I watched in terror at times, just dreading what I would see next. Phew. What a relief. I haven't watched the full video yet, but those lines have made such a difference. Quick comment re the last video. I was so intrigued by the large, boxy headgear worn by one of the Hasidic visitors I had to google it. Very special, called a shtreimel, made of fur. I am hoping that some higher up official will see these videos on how well people who are following you speak so highly of you.
I am hoping something is there for an opening of some sort for you to continue this role, in a way that you will have an audience talking to face to face as well as with us what is the important role of history and tradition.
I have said this a few times and it speaks volumes to different people when we follow you on your tours. I realised that is not just with the subtitles for anyone but the language they speak at home change from english to whatever. As a newbie I don't know much about that language changing, it is a really big thing for me someone who has compassion for others and a big thing when they think outside the box knowing the it bring not just non english speaking / hearing impaired or deaf people but it is to share what knowledge you have and you have a really big heart that goes with your conscience to whatever you say about the running of this military establishment. Please correct me if I am wrong in the name as I keep forgetting if it's called something else. If it is I will try my best to have it down somewhere and try to remember. You have a beautiful gift that just shows how nuch you love your country and especially live in a country where you can visit here whenever you can.
So glad I found you and everybody, I am up for learning and try to remember. This is the one that really ticks all my boxes.
Subtitles weren't invented back when I watch tv / or go to movies. It's the best invention since sliced bread. Not a lot of people think outside the box , no compassion for other people in what would benefit us to follow, only in how much money is this going to bring in.
You bring out the best in us John as well .
    Take care.

I have watched Horse Guards for a long time and the only one filming was Buska but then I saw your channel going through all these nooks and crannies which I found fascinating. Even if you took a day off from Horse Guards it would be great to see around London again. Surely an adult should know not to behave like that towards a soldier. That was no way for them to behave in front of the soldier, especially as they were demonstrating to children bad behaviour. I have worked with many Isreali's during my carreer, I found them to be respctful, intense and loyal. They are a proud people and your conversation highlighted that. Thank for taking the time to explain British traditions to them. That they listened without complaint says everything you need to know about that group. I am sure they will take this back home with them and share it with others. There are, of course, bad apples in every group. Take those loutish Spanish teenagers, who would not dare do that in their homeland. Thank you again, John for being so courteous to that group.

The young man in the group putting his scarf on the child to give her extra warmth has been the first time ever to see this type of compassion between adult & child in these groups. Thai is a group of people that were interested in what you were saying. I hope they watch your UA-cam to understand how nasty some can be.

I don't think you were getting through somehow. The ignorance and arrogance on those faces underneath the teapot lids and cats tail ringlets said it all. They came with a certain intention and would do the same again.

You at least tried to get some sense in these folks, John. Compliments. But in the last seconds of your video we see another Chassidi is mocking a guard again. Indeed, it didn''t last very long.

A restaurant might not be in their budget or align with their dietary practices like kosher. They probably are staying in a place with cooking/food delivery accommodations like an AIR B&B. 🤔

Part of their religious beliefs . Would you say the same about the Sikh men who have their long hair in a turban , or those who shave their heads like Buddhist .
