Thanks for this review. I just love this thing. I paid the standalone price for it several months ago, and I don’t regret it. The sounds are gorgeous and oh so phat. I own several great soft synths, and I can do my own sound design, but here is a collection of very usable, high-quality sounds designed to fulfil specific compositional functions. The creators of this software have sampled a multitude of iconic physical synthesizers, picking only great sounding patches. It is true that you don’t get a full range of adjustability, but that is not the point of this instrument. You can hook up several of the modulation parameters to MIDI controls to enable morphing the sound over time in very interesting ways, and the arpeggiator is a great addition, but the basic sounds themselves come from samples, not from direct synthesis. I don’t care. Forbidden Planet sounds amazing.
@@SecondTierSound it’s on my channel. It’s called Galadriel’s theme. I only have two videos uploaded; or you can just type in Mark DiAngelo in the search bar and it should come up! Thank you, sir! 😊
Sometimes an outside perspective on a library showcases its features better than the marketing vids. I have Composer Cloud, so Forbidden Planet has been sitting on my SSD since release, but I didn't appreciate what it could do until now. You've inspired me to jump into my DAW and start writing with it! Thanks.
This is my fav new addition from East West for years, it is just on a whole new level. Great sounds, great inspirations. SO PHAT. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.
Thanks Sam, it's been awhile since I've checked in on your videos. This is very helpful. Appreciate the details you covered. It's a little less "foggy" for me. Take care
Always love your deep dives into libraries to really find the hidden capabilities that maybe get overlooked. Well Done, Sam. Also, the eyes in the thumbnail seem to follow me around the room 👀
Hey 2nd tier, would it be possible for you to make a video using EWQL and start from scratch doing a video of making an original composition? i think it would be neat and will give us a clear understanding of working from a blank template and help us to see your approach on writing music off the cuff. Thanks!
There do seem to be some good sounds there (based on several videos I've seen; I don't own it), but the fact that you're stuck with the presets and cannot choose your own A and B layers is a big disadvantage. That price is a huge disadvantage, too. I can definitely understand why EastWest has given it away with Hollywood Orchestra and their newer products several times this year.
Superb demo & sound quality!! Has anyone experience with EW's Cloud subscription model - or even the hard drive product with loaded sound libraries?? Any issues? Im considering this for my guitar synth work & composing & sound track creation.
It is using Opus. In fact, this is not really synth in the traditional sense, but samples of synth sounds, with direct manipulation with the opus engine.
Great presentation. EW has always excelled at sound design. One need only look at Goliath's synths and the storm drums all 3 to know that is the comfort zone for them. Arturia's are thick and realistic synths BUT so many of the presets are unusable. They also don't map cc7 to volume (STILL! In 2022) and absolutely CPU hogs. Sounds can be and are amateurish. This is more for the pros. Thx again

"I wouldn't meditate on this one." lol! That had rolling.
It would be an honor if you listened as well STS and gave me some feedback. Thank you, my friend. You are an inspiration for us all!
Thank you! What do you want me to listen to?

Thanks Linda. Glad it helped with the fog
Do you know if the movement of the "moon" around/through the planet can be recorded, as Omnisphere's Orb?
Yes, with the modwheel and the expression. (A combination of cc1 and cc11) But not as the orb works in omnisphere.
Thanks for this, it has opened my eyes (ears?) to some possibilities I would have most likely overlooked, cheers!
Nice to hear!

I'm watching you...
@@SecondTierSound And you added the beard! 🤣👍
I always listen to great advice

Possibly. I'm working on teaching material so maybe...😊

Check out my review of the Opus and orchestra from EastWest
The synth engine that you were using, is it part of just forbidden planet or does it come with opus period.
It is using Opus. In fact, this is not really synth in the traditional sense, but samples of synth sounds, with direct manipulation with the opus engine.
@@SecondTierSound I have Goliath, forbidden planet and strings if this is the case I’m going to have fun using all three of theses libraries!
Do you know if this is availerble on iPad at all to play thru GarageBand ?
I'm afraid I don't know, but I don't think so. I think opus only runs on PC and Mac
I have an Expressive E. I wonder if you can control the 'planet' with that. I would be happier with that then a mouse
I don't know, but you can assign any CC to any of the controls, so it should be possible
@@SecondTierSound thanks so much
Is it me or are you just glowing❤
He he, I'm glowing a bit in this video actually, due to getting some settings in the video rendering a little off🤭
I see what you did there ^^^ 😂

Great perspective. I didn't think of that, and I think you have a point.
