  • Hi. In today's episode, we look at the U.S.-Mexico border, how our politicians suck at addressing the issues there, and why so many people from Mexico and Central America cross the border into the U.S. in the first place. (Hint: The U.S. did bad things to their countries!)

    As a former soldier on Fort Bliss, I signed a contract stating that I couldn't confirm the existence of the cages, that definitely don't exist, being moved to the back of the base, far from public eyes, allegedly, but I can tell you that I was told not to tell you under the threat of jail time. My wife’s family are Mayans from Guatemala. While my wife was born here in 2000 and this is too young to remember, her mother (who speaks Qanjobal as her first language and Spanish as her second) has horror stories from the time of the silent genocide.
    Almost every video just dances around that. Thank you. Not only does it make me proud for my wifes family that someone is talking about this but as an indigenous person myself (Oglala Lakota) seeing overlooked indigenous genocide and it’s perpetrators called out is bittersweet.

    On the US ruining Latin American countries, Smedley Butler made it super-clear: "I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer; a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

We should probably talk about that more but it's politically inconvenient.

      Goulart wasn't even a socialist, he was closer to a social-democrat, coming from the political tradition arising from Vargas' post-45 trabalhista turn. That was more than enough to trigger the reactionary forces at home and abroad.

    Legalized drugs like Netherlands and Portugal, and the crime will plummet. 5:14 Fentanyl deaths - here’s an idea that will probably float like a lead balloon among some readers: legalize all drugs, sell unadulterated versions cheaply to current addicts, create safe spaces for users where there are medical staff to mitigate overdoses, and provide therapy and counseling for those who want to detox and fight their addictions. It would cut off a huge source of funding for the cartels, prevent many deaths, and maybe get some people rehabilitated and back into society. Tax dollars well spent!

  • @Jay32954
    @Jay32954 9 місяців тому +2

    As an Australian, I am ashamed that one of our major exports has been our migration policy. Like, Trump, as well as a lot of European countries during the Syrian refugee crisis, just copied it pretty closely. But we've been doing this since like the 90s, but especially since like two weeks before 9/11.
    If you don't know the significance, our government got pictures of refugees in life-jackets fleeing a sinking vessel, and lied, saying they were "throwing their children overboard". They got called out for it briefly, and then 9/11 happened, and it became a "national security issue" and an unpopular government got elected in a landslide.
