That, and "money is given for things people want and value" obfuscates what actually happens. People who make things people want and value make peanuts. People who make, do not own. Every time people claim that there's trouble at our borders that are so awful and horrible and violent, I remember the episode of "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" where he goes to a Texas border town and notes how much the people there, both Mexican and American, *do not want the border fucked with.* They have friends, family, and loved ones just down the street in a completely different country, and their lives and cultures are so integrated as to make all of them stronger.
And honestly, that just makes how inhumane we treat Mexicans at the border in the alleged name of being more humane to them *hurt so much more.*
Defending land borders so hard is dumb NGL. Like, it's one thing to have a quick check and to make sure people don't randomly move into a new country without registering themselves, but it's another to restrict any crossing.
One of the most important things to remember about the Republican party is that when they correctly bring attention to an issue they're doing it to make Democrats look bad, not because they have any intention of trying to make things.
I am always amazed at they way they pull off using left wing issues to go after dems for not doing them while they actively block them and stopped democrats from fixing problems. It’s just amazing! Their voters are such bad faith goons too they do the same tactic
I remember a bit on John Oliver where he talked about some Republican candidate who was running a "Hey, remember when a family could survive on one income?" ad, and Oliver was like "The effed up thing is that he's right, and it's pretty messed up that this messaging is coming from the Republicans rather than the Democrats who fancy themselves the party of the working class." And yeah, it's not like that Republican candidate was pushing for better wages. He was really pushing for nuclear-family "a woman's place is in the kitchen" culture-war nonsense. And he was doing it to make the Democrats look bad.

Idk, I live in Baltimore (city which houses Fort McHenry, where the anthem was written Blah blah American history BS) and learned we got our asses kicked in between lines about how brave the battle was to stop Baltimore from being razed.
Huh. Anyway...
Thank you, SMN crew.
Cody: anarchists aren't maniacs, though we do hate America the way it is currently constituted. The system is broken, and things will get worse before they get better as long as we continue to do the things we are doing.
pretty sure not edgeordaarchists, domostly community activities and organizing.Which is cool, and helpful.
Only thing I know for sure is that Cody has most certainly watched the first Republican debate.
I'm glad someone did. I sure didn't... I wish I did, but i just didn't want to deal with the headache and nausea that comes with it
@@Briaaanz I managed 50 seconds before my head hurt too much due to major eye rollage.
I watched a UA-cam Poop edit of it and it's all I need honestly
I watched it for the same reason i watch any shitshow debate, because i can't dispell people's misconceptions if i don't know the weaselshit tactics of the people they adore.
@bazingaburg8264 I watched it too because I want first hand knowledge of a thing and not someone's interpretation. Gotta know the enemy am I right?

Election season is the absolute worst and. It seeing ads about it constantly is just the most relaxing thing ever
As always, the best long-form political commentary show out there.
I can't believe they managed to get Astarion to do the ad read!
Great episode, Showdy!
A bit disheartening that when people talk about USA imperialism, it's very rare to see them mention Brazil. We had a chance at baing a true socialist country (rest in peace, João Goulart) and it was robbed from us when USA financed a military coup in 1964 and far-right dictatorship that fucked us over for twenty years, and still does.
Goulart wasn't even a socialist, he was closer to a social-democrat, coming from the political tradition arising from Vargas' post-45 trabalhista turn. That was more than enough to trigger the reactionary forces at home and abroad.
I know this show is mostly by americans for americans, but an episode on this same issue in Europe might be a good one to do. What are the parallels? What are the differences? Why?
As a UK resident I love to watch your show and laugh smugly at how bad things are across the pond. Such things could never happen here. What's this? A story about someone called Bibby Stockholm? That sounds like the sort of whimsical, low-stakes content we Brits love *click*. ... . Oh my. Oh dear, oh my, oh my giddy aunt. Well, immigration's a complicated issue, isn't it?
My favorite saddest news 😢❤🎉🎉🎉 Thanks guys! We appreciate it👏🏾🫡❤️❤️❤️

Yay another Some More News! I do love it when a new one pops up--
I've watched this channel for a while now and I feel they have a really European take on America, which I mean in a very positive way (I'm Belgian and I think most of us feel your media is insane). It's rare to see such a well informed and balanced view on American issues. Keep it up Cody!

Legalized drugs like Netherlands and Portugal, and the crime will plummet. It will never go away, especially not in a country like America where Greed rules their ways, but it will lower crime as it did in Portugal when they decided, maybe it was time to listen to people and not to people that want to control others.
Did not know that Portugal had those law's implemented good on them!
America is learning a lesson that Britain learned in the 70s: Most geopolitical problems in the world can be directly traced to an Englishman with a map and a ruler.

Every time Cody does a sponsor spot for this AG1 crap, you can tell he's almost choking just trying to swallow the stuff...

I worked with a guy that moved to Texas from Mexico and he talked about how the US military worked with the cartels to encourage use of American currency to help strengthen American currency by compromising the peso.
5:14 Fentanyl deaths - here’s an idea that will probably float like a lead balloon among some readers: legalize all drugs, sell unadulterated versions cheaply to current addicts, create safe spaces for users where there are medical staff to mitigate overdoses, and provide therapy and counseling for those who want to detox and fight their addictions. It would cut off a huge source of funding for the cartels, prevent many deaths, and maybe get some people rehabilitated and back into society. Tax dollars well spent!
A minute and a half in, but I have to stop and say; As a Canadian, it's about time someone started realizing the threat we pose to the world at large.
Gonna apologize us to death?
@@denverarnold6210 sorry, but no.
Still, very sorry.
As long as jreg stays mayor and dictator of Ottawa, Canada can do whatever it wants.
Is Canada going to help protect all these migrants?
As an Australian, I am ashamed that one of our major exports has been our migration policy. Like, Trump, as well as a lot of European countries during the Syrian refugee crisis, just copied it pretty closely. But we've been doing this since like the 90s, but especially since like two weeks before 9/11.
If you don't know the significance, our government got pictures of refugees in life-jackets fleeing a sinking vessel, and lied, saying they were "throwing their children overboard". They got called out for it briefly, and then 9/11 happened, and it became a "national security issue" and an unpopular government got elected in a landslide.
Fantastic work! Thank you, Cody!
The phrase "my poo song is 'lightning crashes' by Live", is the funniest thing I've heard in decades. I literally busted out laughing. Thank you.

We are just as bad in the UK sadly and we live on a damn Island. Westminster is forcing refugees into barges which had Legionnaire's disease. Also in Scotland where i live we have an swful drug problem but again we live on an island, my point being being walls wont make much difference at all (also Fentanyl has barely came here yet-its benzodiazapines and heroin that's killing people which is smuggled either in the post or on ship containers and lorries from France). So yeah our Rifht wing Tories are just as monstrous
