Only in a cartoon where a plane full of passengers (plus *extremely* underage employees) crashes and burns, and the worst case scenario is mild annoyance from the passengers.
+Jonathan Wilson Call me crazy, but more often than not, the animation quality for Screen Gems shorts I argue can ALMOST compare on Disney's level. At first glance, I've always wondered why such great looking shorts are so hard to find until actually watching their content. Not to say there aren't good shorts (such as Little Match Girl released in the same year as the posted short), but yeah, definitely hit or miss with an emphasis on the miss in my opinion.
The voices in this cartoon sometimes remind me of "LITTLE BUCK CHEEZER", an MGM HAPPY HARMONIES cartoon also about air travel in its way, but I like this cartoon's strangeness. There is a lot of strangeness throughout the 1930's in animation because they were always experimenting.
_Little Buck Cheeser_ is one of my favorite cartoons because of its richly painted and sustained visualization of science fiction pulp magazine covers. There is some similarity in the voices, or with the voices of some Sniffles toons, and the like. I think you could define a vocal characterization subcategory something like: high pitched, sometimes lisping, adult voices trying to sound like an adorably cute child as the 30s and 40s conceived adorably cute or just plain cute. This cartoon does suggest to me something of a Tex Avery touch where a basic situation is sustained and, in this case, arguably keeps getting worse. Of course in Tex's case it kept getting funnier and funnier and funnier, but it works rather well here.
Didn't the passengers got a good look at the plane's condition before they boarded? If the plane was in that many pieces, it shouldn't been allowed to fly in the first place. For that matter, I'm surprised that the plane even flew for a few seconds.
Baba Looey I'm aware of that. But one would should still had thought of a 4th wall type gag telling the passengers not to board yet they did anyway. Follow by something like "You'll be sorry". That would had made the gag funnier instead of them boarding and not paying attention to the plane's condition.
That plane is very much in arrears for regular maintenance. Or any other kind. I'd feel safer piloting a sailplane, and I don't know to pilot anything.
Omg 😲 how did passengers minded to go on this busted plane ✈️ I mean it's a complete miss why is it's pilot and stewardess are just kids not full grown adults
The woman is the very young air hostesses' boss, and they are showing respect to her. Also, they curtsey as a way of respect. My generation (Baby Boom) was the last to curtsey.
Love that introductory rendition of "Come Take A Trip In My Airship" by the Paul Taylor chorus. Takes me back
I'm not sure I want to fly home in a few days if the plane is in such a bad shape like that and it's also operated by small cherubic children. :)
😂😂😂😂
That pilot seems to keep changing sexes!!

THey needed Popeye & his spinach to fix that plane!
it looked like wimpy hit the pilot in the face with it!
Sorry , Popeye was at Famous Studios at Paramount , lol.
No more airplanes, next time we travel on the zeppelin Hindenburg.
This cartoon was on this morning on Toon in with me.
Things were quite exciting in the days before preflight checks.
Imagine that! In 1937, they predicted the Boeing 737 Max!
why do I have the urge for a bowl of Campbell soup ?
Umm , Umm , Good!
@rgd963
They Look Like the Campbell Soup Kids.
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
How many OSHA violations does that plane volatile? xD
Eliva Allman And Leone Le Doux did the voices according to IMDB. With a Big Lipped Alligator Moment Appearance For a Caricature Of Mae west
Amazingly cute cartoon about air disasters!
Love to see a real piolet react to this video.
I’ve been watching these old cartoons and this is the first one that made me REALLY laugh
What are they say "Yes!Ma'am." all many times?
That was almost painful. Bravo Columbia..
+gnikcohs Well, they are a hit or miss (but I enjoy the use of color and complex character designs).
+Jonathan Wilson

It's just a cartoon.
Baba Looey I'm aware of that. But one would should still had thought of a 4th wall type gag telling the passengers not to board yet they did anyway. Follow by something like "You'll be sorry". Maybe. Or it might have robbed the scene of what humor it had. You don't need to hang a lampshade on everything.
This story is too weird, also for a cartoon.
The most weird part is, that they made and released the cartoon movie.
To think, future WB and Depatie Freleng director Arthur Davis was the director of this picture. Too bad it's not one of his better efforts.
A Amazing disaster Indeed.
I never seen a boy and girl kids riding an airplane before
Actually, last month is March. I have sitting on the airplane ✈️🛫 from going to the Sabah.
And then, I will back 🔙 to the Kuala Lumpur.

4:56 Mae West.
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Fun Fact . Mae West was in an Episode of Mister ED & She Played Herself.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
And if this is how the plane flew on a good day, I would hate to see it during bad weather!!!!
They predicted spirit airlines
why does this even exist..
Probably for the Melody of Ecstasy.
Lisa Thuban And I think Ecstacy had much to do with this cartoon.
For entertainment
Omg 😲 how did passengers minded to go on this busted plane ✈️ I mean it's a complete miss why is it's pilot and stewardess are just kids not full grown adults
It is a friggin cartoon, calm down
Doesn’t hold up but love the title song.
Why does this remind me of Boeing and the 737 (?) that caused hundreds of deaths because of known defects.
Good ol dayz
2:40 emery hawkins animation
What mean is "Yes! Ma'am"?
Ma'am is just a way to call a women
The woman is the very young air hostesses' boss, and they are showing respect to her. Also, they curtsey as a way of respect. My generation (Baby Boom) was the last to curtsey.
Enjoyed it!
These girls are so cute
Why did airplane ✈️🛫 is broken 💔😂 for what happened?
It's supposed to be funny. Humor has changed since 1937.
Hey they predicted Boeing
The condition of all too many Boeing planes in 2024, unfortunately.
귀여운 4명의 아기들의 만화🤍🙂
I really found that columbia cartoon is a bit weird. It is a serious cartoon. They tried to be funny but still u will find it serious.
Really, How Did You Find It On Antenna TV?
The Columbia and UPA shorts aired on Antenna TV for awhile but not in years.
