    Try setting your focus to the *bottom* of the acrylic. Smooth clean cuts at a much lower power and no melting.

    Using 3 mm black acrylic I got nice cuts with my 40 watt NEJE. I left the protective "cover" on. Got a decent cut at 50% 200 mm min 2 passes. Also did a cut out of my shorten name "Mike" in New Times Roman at 125 mm min at 40% 3 passes. Your video is much appreciate. Recommend you get a honeycomb bed for cutting. It should improve you cutting of designs with details in them.

      Thanks. Funny you should say that. I just uploaded a video testing with a laser bed. Unfortunately couldn’t find a honeycomb bed locally so made something else. I’m still in two minds if I get better quality cuts with a single pass at high power or multiple passes at lower power.

      I had to google translate your message but seems like you are asking if the laser can cut black vinyl records. I have not tried, but also, and more importantly, seems like it will emit toxic fumes when cut with a laser, so please don't try.

      It does, which is why you need some ventilation but it is not as toxic as Vinyl which produces Chlorine gas. There are a few pages on the internet with guidelines for safe and unsafe materials and most consider Acrylic safe ( with ventilation). for example fablabdevon.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Laser_Safe_Materials1.pdf or cardiffhackspace.co.uk/knowledge-base/laser-cutter-dangerous-materials/.
      You could possibly get a laser with a proper filtration system that you can use to cut more toxic type materials but the Chlorine gas is corrosive so might end up damaging your machine.
      I am no expert, just cautious so please do your own research before laser cutting .

    HI
    I have the same module and not able to get the same results as far as the speeds go
    I checked the 12v Supply and make sure it is 12v
    The TTL voltage is only 2v at 100% power can you measure the TTL voltage
    On laser it says 3-12v TTL but TTL is normally max 5v
    What controller is in the machine

    • @royk1374
      @royk1374 Рік тому

      Perhaps you've to clean your lens with some IPA, air assist while cutting will help to prevent the need of cleaning the lens for a longer period. As far as I understand TTL will turn the laser on or off as long as it is in the range of 3-12v, by PWM it controls the power of the laser. If the voltage is too low to operate correctly your wires might be too long. Did you measure while connected? Besides that, the results can vary per brand of the acrylic and extruded/cast.

    Not strong enough for acrylic. 40w is not the power but the electricity use. Power laser is 7.5 w. A 40w laser is much more powerful than this. Now the stronger NEJE laser is 12w and the newest in 2022 the E40 is 11W.

    • @makerz4247
      @makerz4247  3 роки тому +1

      It depends on the material and thickness you are trying to cut or engrave, for example these are some of my settings based on the 40W module:
      3mm cardboard 900mm/m @ 65% power
      4mm cardboard 900mm/m @ 75% power
      3mm black acrylic 100mm/m @ 90% power
      3mm Plywood 200mm/m @100% power
      But usually its a bit of trail and error to see what works best

I cut with the backing paper still on. You do have to sand and burnish the edges after you are done, but it does cut through it. Stinky.

    • @makerz4247
      @makerz4247  3 роки тому

      Good question, on the 3mm black acrylic the inside measurement of the hole is 10.1mm and the cut out piece is 9.7mm, so 0.4mm difference for both sides, so the cut width for a single cut is 0.2 mm. Like all good answers I would say it depends... for example on the material you cut and the laser settings etc, but this example is one of the better/finer cuts

    • @Mueller3D
      @Mueller3D 3 роки тому +1

      Note that the beam is oval shaped (it is wider in one direction than the orthogonal direction). This is the reason that it cut through in one direction but not the other in the 3mm sheet. If your software allows it, you could cut faster along one axis than the other.
