I came to the comment section after pausing the video exactly at that moment, when Zee and Sam simultaneously communicated a definitive "Your enthusiasm does not compute." statement ... just using their eyes. :D
My number one on this list would be Flash Point: Fire Rescue. The turn when the last fireman dives out of the house, the room an inferno of flames and explosions, the house crashing down behind you. And you win the game. Awesome.
I’m with you Zee, I’ve had some very exciting games of Mysterium, especially when you play by the rules and reveal the number of the correct group of cards at the end.
My wife and I love the game (for all the reasons that Sam hates it) but I wouldn't say the ending is exciting - but I'll put that down to the fact that we play two player, and the two player version of that game has a horrible kludge for the last portion of the game which kind of kills the excitement at that point. But everything up to that point is great: "You know you're supposed to actually look at the cards, right?" "This is what happens when we get psychics off Gumtree" "Clearly the ghost has already gone insane" "Look, there's a blue thing in the background, and hats are sometimes blue, and that guy looks like he might wear a hat, so *obviously* it's him" "Clues, dear, you're supposed to give me clues" Not every group is OK with that kind of thing, but we find it hilarious.
Mysterium has such a great buildup because it gets progressively harder and more dependent on learning to read the ghosts intensions, or being consistent as the ghost.
Sam's Top 10 - 101: Raptor, BANG! TDG, Mission: Red Planet, Blood Rage, Deception, Star Wars: Something - preferrably Rebellion (I put BANG, BR, and Deception here in this comment, before he even mentioned them on the list :D ) Although they are all great games to be honest, but still - just sayin' :D
You forgot Twilight Imperium, Battle Star Galactica , Stone age, Memoir 44, Zombicide black Plague and some viking game that I can't remember for sure (champions of Midgard may be?) xD
There definitely seemed to be some passive aggressive shade being thrown this episode. Usually it seems really light-hearted, but this time around, most of that seemed pretty real!
Watch the expressions on the faces of Sam and Zee as Tom describes the exciting endings of Wits & Wagers. Tom loves Wits & Wagers! ua-cam.com/video/htTFi8N5-dI/v-deo.html
Co-op games can be hit or miss. They are extremely exciting when you know you are about to lose unless you can pull off a miracle at the last moment. Probably near the top of my list for this would be Burgle Bros., which just ramps up nicely, and Forbidden Island, which has the added visual element of the board disappearing as the island floods.
I';d have put Aeon's End at the top of my list - it always seems to come down to one or two turns. We'll be at the point of death, sure we're going to fail, then someone will draw cards with enough damage (or figure out a way to boost damage with relics etc) to kill the nemesis and win the game. The last time we played, there was a minion with a ridiculous amount of health, but through a bit of strategy (and a good draw) we boosted the damage on my wife's next turn so she could kill the nemesis and win.
I was gonna say exactly that. In Pandemic, you can kinda see the end coming, and sometimes it''l be close, but Aeon's End for me is almost always right down to the last shuffle of the turn order deck.
13:21 - We've had quite a few exciting endings to Formula De/D, with 2 or even 3 people needing a high enough roll (or their opponent to miss their roll goal) for the ending straightaway.
Mine has to be War of the Ring. Every time I play it, it comes to the last spot on the Crack of Doom. It'll be one or two points for the Shadow player, and that one spot for the Free Peoples.
For my money, its easily Deep Sea Adventure. After failing to roll above a 3 2 turns in a row, I died outside of the submarine, with pieces of treasure that would have won the game for me.
nice lists, I would also add Room 25 with hidden enemy, and actually one exciting deck-building, Legendary encounters aliens ( also with hidden enemy) + ending of a mission in imperial assault campaing.
Letters From Whitechapel has had some nailbiter endings. Every game of Dead of Winter I've played has ended with, "Come on! Just save that last point of moral!" Or "We just need one more food!"
I second this! Letters From Whitechapel is new to our collection, but we've had a few great games already. The way that both sides feel like they have a daunting task is excellent. As Jack, you feel like you can't get fancy early in the game - which usually means the detectives get a whiff of you early. Then, the walls close in quickly on future turns. As the detectives, it very rarely feels like you're certain of anything. A TON of tension in this game, and the ending is always exciting.
I know this video was a long time ago, but I recently started playing Tournament at Camelot. Since this game has an aggressive catch-up mechanism, most of the games I've played have everyone nearly dead and it's the last few cards to see who is the least dead.
1. Battlestar Gallactica - EVERY game I have ever played has come down to the wire. 2. T.I.M.E Stories - I have played three scenarios and each one has been a nail biter, especially Prophecy of Dragons. 3. Legendary (Marvel and/or Alien) - I have had MANY close games of Legendary that have come down to the last couple of cards. 4. Escape - I am always out of breath after this game. 5. The Mind - This simple card game always has us screaming, whether we win or lose.
The only thing non-exciting here was Sam's list. You need to play some more games man! I would seriously love a Top 10 games "We've never put on a Top 10" list to happen.
I was so confused by the title screen with the Cubs because half of my UA-cam recommendations are Cubs highlights. I thought UA-cam was doing some next level automatic mashup bases on my viewing history, lol.
Cosmic Encounter? Oh nooooooo, no no no. I've never played a game that was as consistently anti-climatic as Cosmic Encounter. The whole game is people asking "base for a base?" a shrug, then "sure". The end is when two or three people have one base to go and ask "want to win together?" a shrug, then "sure". A card gets played, they nod and shake, and that's that.
Here's my top 10 Flamme rouge (Cycling race) is intense Jamaica (especialy with more than 4 players) Flatline (Coop dice, trying to heal people in real time) Clank (Deck building and race) Clank the mommy is the best Dead of winter is VERY intense (Especialy if you make a mistake and you're not the traitor) Avalon is very intense (100x better than werewolf) Ponzi scheme (OOoh boy! Playing with money *without* money!) The fury of Dracula (One vs all...Now that's intense!) Room 25 (2 teams, who is with who? one team wins if the kill the other team and the other one if they get out of the maze) Talkin *Maze*....Magic Maze is VERY intense (No talking and lets try to get our stuff and get out)
Zee's little black heart was shattered throughout the group's number 8 picks. Double kill! I loved this video man! People think being friends is all ablut being nice ans cushy all the time. I really enjoyed the rawness of this one. Jetlag, bad day, hunger, sleep deprivation? Whatever it was... Loved it! :)-
I was surprised when searching that you haven't had a top 10 Campaign/Legacy games. My wife and I would love a game we could pull out once a week or so and progress through a story... thinking Gloomhaven, Pandemic Legacy, etc. Would love to hear which you guys like best!
I think every campaign game which is heavily story-driven is carrying thay aspect that Zee is mentioning about legacy games - Mice & Mystics is my top choice and example here, where apart from exciting moments throughout each mission, the excitement is always the most when clearing the last room beaten and exhausted and the final story moment gives us a glimpse of our future (next chapter) Also, great choice for including Dungeon Twister in your list Tom! And you should also consider Chaos in the Old World - VERY tense last round and ending with the ruinations and all
I haven’t played most of those, so I can’t say they’re wrong, but for me: Forbidden Desert/Island - very well balanced, so it always winds up close. The Mind - only played it once, but damn it was tense right up to the end. Ticket to Ride - not generally and exciting game, but if I don’t complete my missions it’s a desperate grab, and if I do then I usually pick more missions and put myself back in danger of not completing them. So I always have some tension at the end.
Any difficult coop games generally have an exciting ending given everyone is deeply engaged in surviving or building one last chance of winning. Ghost Stories and Arkham Horror both are good picks, along with Red Dragon Inn: Battle for Greyport, which a totally overlooked hidden gem! BSG often falls a little flat for our group: too easy for humans to win.
Cubs + Dice Tower are my two favorite things in one. Perfect image for this top 10 list. I would definitely go Resistance, Freedom the Underground Railroad and even Ticket to Ride is pretty exciting to me with the end ticket reveals.
Street Masters : Rise of the Kingdom. Solo, or with friends, most games end spectacularly. Either you lose early, or it comes down to the wire. Trying to get the last hit on the big bad, hoping to draw the exact card you need, hanging on to your last few life points..... More often than not, its super super super down to the wire. Highly recommended.
The game I've played with the most exciting ending is Sentinels of the Multiverse. It always comes down to the very end, the heroes down to little health and trying to kill the boss before they die. Even if one does die, though, their death skills can help their allies pull through, which happened with us once.
Next year Escape Plan will be in this Top 10, no doubt about it! The tension of getting out of town before the cops close all exits, but I want mooooooooooooore cash, aarrrgghh....
Star Wars: Rebellion, Specter Ops, and Clank! In Space! are all excellent choices! I know head-to-head card games aren’t these guys’ favorite game type so I doubt they even thought of it but the first game I thought about when I saw the Top Ten title was Android: Netrunner. There are some truly amazing endings in that game!
I have to add Black Orchestra! There are elements that need to come together in order to successfully complete a plot and take down Hitler and so many ways it can go wrong. Very exciting!.
I actually feel like a third of the time I played, Resistance is all but over by the 4th mission, because the traitors just weren't good at hiding themselves.
'Black Orchestra' is all about the final dice roll. Your team works the whole game to try to enact the final plot at the precise moment. Our group has had several heart-stopping moments as we try to take out Hitler.
Wizard Always Wins when someone takes the Wizard on the round right before you were going to get him and they have anywhere over 3 gems in the bag and at least 3 tries to pull theirs. Your heart drops with every pull.
Flamme Rouge, Tigris & Euphrates, Viticulture, King of Tokyo, Great Western Trail, Brass, Root, Lords of Waterdeep, Founders of Gloomhaven, Sidereal Confluence.
Legacy Games are a great call for sure. The post game excitement of unlocking new content or making permanent upgrades is great. Star Wars Rebellion and Imperial Assault both have some tense back and forth finale moments. Specter Ops, and most hidden movement games, also provide a lot of tension in their finale. BSG, and generally any game with a traitor mechanic, can provide an amazing ending. Betrayal at House on the Hill is hit or miss with the finale - its either exciting and tense or its a dud. I've never been anything but miserable playing Ghost Stories. I would not call the ending to Cosmic Encounters anymore exciting than other games with take-that mechanics; its just about the same as the finale to a game of Munchkin. I've often found myself in that situation as a spectator, completely removed from the situation, just waiting for the sweet mercy of an ending. For a game to have an exciting end, it really needs a strong build up and escalation for all the players. All too often Munchkin and Cosmic Encounters can have players who are just stuck, falling farther and farther behind the leaders.
I'm rolling on the floor at the expressions of Sam and Zee when Tom is talking about Wits and Wagers' exciting ending! 27:20
tom: "wits & wagers"
sam and zee: *stares blankly into space throughout tom's entire explanation*
I came to the comment section after pausing the video exactly at that moment, when Zee and Sam simultaneously communicated a definitive "Your enthusiasm does not compute." statement ... just using their eyes. :D
Zee... you are the only one I would feel comfortable sitting down and playing a game with. :)
Wow 2 top 10-s in a 7 days! Please do 1 every week! These are my favourites!
Maybe, but 1 episode per week is not that much. I can accept 1 per every 2 weeks though :D
But everything up to that point is great:
"You know you're supposed to actually look at the cards, right?"
"This is what happens when we get psychics off Gumtree"
"Clearly the ghost has already gone insane"
"Look, there's a blue thing in the background, and hats are sometimes blue, and that guy looks like he might wear a hat, so *obviously* it's him"
"Clues, dear, you're supposed to give me clues"
Not every group is OK with that kind of thing, but we find it hilarious.
Mysterium has such a great buildup because it gets progressively harder and more dependent on learning to read the ghosts intensions, or being consistent as the ghost.
When I saw the topic, mysterium was the first game that came to mind.
Sam and Tom only don't like mysterium because they are afeared of witches, spirits, fortune tellers and all their wee little beasties.
as they should be really, but to me its the possibility of loosing your immortal soul at the end that makes "Mysterium" so exciting.
Please do a Top ten useless expansion
GabChiasse I've asked for this, but Tom said in a Q&A he wasn’t interested in doing it.

Sam's Top 10 - 101:
Raptor, BANG! TDG, Mission: Red Planet, Blood Rage, Deception, Star Wars: Something - preferrably Rebellion (I put BANG, BR, and Deception here in this comment, before he even mentioned them on the list :D )
Although they are all great games to be honest, but still - just sayin' :D
You forgot Twilight Imperium, Battle Star Galactica , Stone age, Memoir 44, Zombicide black Plague and some viking game that I can't remember for sure (champions of Midgard may be?) xD
Not sure if it is my number 1, but I think Camel Cup always has a very exciting ending.
Tom says “Wits and Wagers”.........crickets..........
Camel Up.
You missed this game, how is it possible.
Cmon, this is the best excitement end game ever.
We have tried Camel up 3 times and my family and I just aren't fan of the game much at all. Hopefully the expansion will change that.
I thought about it :) I can probably also put Fuse on the list, but we rarely are close in that game to win :D
Agreed. When I first saw the title I figured at LEAST one of them would have it on there!
Agreed! Every game ends in excitement - Nana on her feet, cheering for a green 3.
Zee you crack me up.
Sam was pretty salty. It was a hilarious amount of salt lol.
That's his middle name, didn't you know?
Sam "Salt" Healey.
I like more when they write name of the game, year, designer and such and such...
The Downfall of Pompeii has a very exciting ending every time
Agree!
Aeon's End frequently has an exciting ending for us, win or lose.
You guys ok? Need a team building experience? Feels like you guys were one remark away from beating each other up. Hope all is well!
especially at the beginning
I was lucky enough to beat Sam by a point in Blood Rage last year at Gen Con. Still my #1 most exciting gaming experience ever.
There definitely seemed to be some passive aggressive shade being thrown this episode. Usually it seems really light-hearted, but this time around, most of that seemed pretty real!
GreyHunter It was the dark power of Tom's red hat. It draws out the group's darker traits.
Watch the expressions on the faces of Sam and Zee as Tom describes the exciting endings of Wits & Wagers. Tom loves Wits & Wagers!

Clank! In Space is so dramatic and intense every time at the end. An amazing game!
I’ve always found the ending to Black Orchestra very exciting (especially if you win!)

John Ludlow agreed. Aeons End get barely any love
+1 here. Aeon's End almost always have a great and exciting ending.
Evidently Sam likes games with exciting endings, because his list is almost all games he puts on a lot of lists
Top Ten Cheap games please !!!! 🙏🙏🙏 💸💸💰
Top 10 immediately get a “👍🏽”
13:21 - We've had quite a few exciting endings to Formula De/D, with 2 or even 3 people needing a high enough roll (or their opponent to miss their roll goal) for the ending straightaway.
Great lists, guys. Love the Cubbies graphic in the background. #EverybodyIn
Still waiting for Top 10 List: the Dice Game (or card game)
Space Alert usually has a thrilling ending (the whole game is very intense), unless you realize that you've screwed it up right at the beginning
Interesting list to redo!
nice lists, I would also add Room 25 with hidden enemy, and actually one exciting deck-building, Legendary encounters aliens ( also with hidden enemy) + ending of a mission in imperial assault campaing.

Now i have to go and rewatch that Jason playing Resistance game again :D
Cpt sonar my no 1
From the game I own:
- Atlantis Rising
- Sub Terra
- Mage Knight
- Aeon's End
- Yggdrasil Chronicles
- ker plunk! (hehe almost forgot about that one)
Well Sam was coming up with some new games to mention in these top tens but now we are back to seven of the games making every list. Lame
I still want to see them do the top 10 games not on a previous top 10 list
Its really getting annoying....every top 10 Sam has the same games.....uuhhhggg
I know this video was a long time ago, but I recently started playing Tournament at Camelot. Since this game has an aggressive catch-up mechanism, most of the games I've played have everyone nearly dead and it's the last few cards to see who is the least dead.

So awkward when they start disagreeing lol. These are personal lists. Why they gotta make each other feel bad?
Zee “middle of the road” Garcia
The only thing non-exciting here was Sam's list. You need to play some more games man!
I would seriously love a Top 10 games "We've never put on a Top 10" list to happen.
with sams lists its not about the games he picked but the order they appear in
Lmao bro... Let the man do his thang. He liked what he likes. I love Sam's 10 games. Even if its the ssme games on every video.
I see some overlap between this and the most rage inducing games list. :P
You know... jenga is actually a solid suggestion for this list
I was so confused by the title screen with the Cubs because half of my UA-cam recommendations are Cubs highlights. I thought UA-cam was doing some next level automatic mashup bases on my viewing history, lol.
It's really good that after over a decade they still haven't explained to one another what the criteria of the lists should be. 👌
Here's my top 10
Flamme rouge (Cycling race) is intense
Jamaica (especialy with more than 4 players)
Flatline (Coop dice, trying to heal people in real time)
Clank (Deck building and race) Clank the mommy is the best
Dead of winter is VERY intense (Especialy if you make a mistake and you're not the traitor)
Avalon is very intense (100x better than werewolf)
Ponzi scheme (OOoh boy! Playing with money *without* money!)
The fury of Dracula (One vs all...Now that's intense!)
Room 25 (2 teams, who is with who? one team wins if the kill the other team and the other one if they get out of the maze)
Talkin *Maze*....Magic Maze is VERY intense (No talking and lets try to get our stuff and get out)
Biblios has the most exciting endings for our group
I do not want to play games with your group.
I would! Biblios would make my top 10 exciting finish, for sure!
SEND HELP - I'm stuck in an endless loop at 33:28!! (K2 has some nail-biting finishes.)
I think every campaign game which is heavily story-driven is carrying thay aspect that Zee is mentioning about legacy games - Mice & Mystics is my top choice and example here, where apart from exciting moments throughout each mission, the excitement is always the most when clearing the last room beaten and exhausted and the final story moment gives us a glimpse of our future (next chapter)
Also, great choice for including Dungeon Twister in your list Tom! And you should also consider Chaos in the Old World - VERY tense last round and ending with the ruinations and all
I haven’t played most of those, so I can’t say they’re wrong, but for me:
Forbidden Desert/Island - very well balanced, so it always winds up close.
I'm enjoying this Cwali love from Zee lately. Such a great little publisher. I'll have to check out both Mayday! Mayday! and Powerboats.
Cubs + Dice Tower are my two favorite things in one. Perfect image for this top 10 list. I would definitely go Resistance, Freedom the Underground Railroad and even Ticket to Ride is pretty exciting to me with the end ticket reveals.
Haven't watched the list yet, but I'm guessing that Twilight Imperium, Pandemic, and Cosmic Encounters are on the list, if not at the tops.
Interesting point of Zee's #5, in reality, you have to declare "Mayday" three times in order to declare an emergency, so... fail for that publisher XD
Haha, Sam and Zee are both thinking, "Hmm, I better just stay quiet and keep my job at Dice Tower while Tom talks about Wits & Wagers."
Ive always thought the end of great western trail is exciting... When you add up everyone's points - it's great euro-dryness excitement.
I like the group when they're darker and more agressive. Tom's number 8 opening was soo boss. Damn, Zee was broken hearted asf. Love it!
Agree 100% with Sam's No. 1 - instantly my favourite game when it came out, still my favourite game 10 years later.
Definitely Captain Sonar for a high spot. For something not mentioned in the vid, I really like Kemet and Colosseum for an exciting finish.
Most exciting for me? Game 7 of the 2016 World Series. Go Cubs! (Fun top 10 👍)
Sam and Tom's favourite was number 4 and Zee's favourite was number 3. :)
I just played a game of Mission Red Planet, and I agree 100% with Sam! it ends so suddenly !
This category is my kind of games! Games like Colt Express, Bang the Dice Game, Anomia, etc; chaotic fun
Ooooh boy. This Gunna be good.
When Tom spoke about Wits and Wagers, Sam and Zee seems to be completely lost.
lords of vegas...ive had multiple games where the big point casinos were battled for near the games end..had the best memory with that game also
Flamme Rouge, Tigris & Euphrates, Viticulture, King of Tokyo, Great Western Trail, Brass, Root, Lords of Waterdeep, Founders of Gloomhaven, Sidereal Confluence.
We played Deception once 10 times in a row and didn't get past the first round. Most info comes with the first 6 tiles.
The problem with games like Spector Ops is it can be where the hunters never come across the enemy or at the end, so it's very hit or miss.
Dungeon Twister is getting released again? Maybe I can finally get the expansions
Wait, didn't they already have a "Games that end in excitement" list?
Plus 1 to Zees number 7. That is agreat game by Wizkids.
Why new music in the end???? I loved the old music after op 10s
Bang The Dice Game aka One of Sammy's defaults.
No. 1 for me would be Oh My Goods!, all the game you´re building the engine for the best last round possible.
Top ten cards in games
Sam wins this time. There is no end as exciting as the one from Battlestar Galactica.
Love the cubs winning the WS on the TV
Cut Throat Caverns with the Adventure books are awesome stories with intense endings!
Little known title that has had exciting endings when I've played it: Camp Grizzly
