    As always nice video with a lot of important information. Now we need a video on DIY C02 scrubber 😂

    Great video as always Logan! I have a love/hate relationship with carbon dosing. I love the way it decreases nitrates and phosphates, I hate the way it lowers my pH and increases the film on glass of my tank. I am using the Tropic Marin carbon dosing system, using Elimina NP when my phosphates are outta control (like now with a phosphate of 0.3), and switch to Bacto Balance when I am around a phos of 0.1. The product is not terribly expensive considering 1 bottle of each can last a year on a 90 gallon with moderate dosing.

      Very good choice of products! I dislike the downsides as well, but at least theyre manageable! Thanks for watchin!

    I heard you cover the No3 but how does this carbon source affect Po4? Great video.

    • @reefrookies
      @reefrookies  Місяць тому +1

      It affects Po4 in the same way to a lesser degree, but it lowers it some also. There are better ways/medias for Po4 reduction like GFO, Rowaphos, and Phosphate-E. Thanks for watchin!

      It definitely works better for nitrate

    my corals are doing good right now at about 30 nitrate and .04 phos. I killed alot though because my phos was high and brought it down way to fast, so my sps is no more.

    Update on my situation :
    My nutrient situation is somwwhat fixed, I was dosing sugar and nitrates were not coming down from 50, I tested phosphate and it was zero, then I did a 50% water change and started to dose a little bit of phosphate, and now after 3 days both nitrate and phosphate are near zero (No3 around 5, PO4 around 0.025)
    Probably would stop dosing sugar for few days

    I can’t seem to keep any nitrate or phosphate. I feed frozen food and reef chili. I dose nitrate and phos daily and not sure if I should dose some vodka

      @reefrookies  Місяць тому +1

      With no nitrates and phosphates I wouldnt carbon dose. That would dampen them more, and thats when bad things happen!

    Ammonia dosing. There are other benefits to carbon dosing.

    • @reefrookies
      @reefrookies  Місяць тому

      To my understanding ammonia dosing does the opposite of remove nitrates, unless Ive read and understood incorrectly its used to raise them.

      @@reefrookies check out Sanjay and Palette. I believe mike has an article on reef to reef about it. It is easier for corals to absorb. He did a video with @AmericanReefChannel where he talks about it a little bit.
