  • Ancient Cliff Dwellings - Long Version - at Palatki Heritage Site - near Sedona, Arizona
Let's start with a short walk on the path to the cliff overhang that contains pictographs and petroglyphs of the Sinagua Indians created from 1100 to 1400 AD. Some of the petroglyphs are much older, estimated to be 5,000 to 6,000 years old that came from more archaic cultures. After we listen to the very informative volunteer, we will walk over to a set of ruins belonging to the Sinagua, thought to be connected to the Hopi Indian Tribe. The word Palatki means 'red house' in the Hopi language. Remember, Sedona is in the center of "Red Rock Country".
This sequence was shot with a Canon HFS-100 and edited in Adobe Premier CS5.

Helen, thanks for watching and commenting. This is a beautiful and history rich area. We must all respect those who lived, worked and died here over 800 years ago. Dave.

Thanks for viewing and commenting. The music used was "Dream Catcher" and "The Sacred Fire" by artist Ah Nee Mah from the album Dream Catcher. Thanks again! Dave.

Lori, many thanks for watching my video and for your kind words. This video was shot in January 2010. The volunteer guide we both had must really like his job! It is amazing what some people do to help tell a story of the past. You are right, pictures and video do not do justice. One needs to experience these sites in person to realize the benefits. It was eerie for us as we walked through this site knowing ancient peoples lived and played around these rocks. I am glad that I had an opportunity to capture what I experienced. It helps me remember and appreciate the past. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it. Dave in Montana.

@@davidegg22 All the " experts " have they're opinions. But all pictographs/petroglyphs are probably nothing more than ancient graffiti.

Why are you not asking where the ancient ones found water, it looks like a dry place with no natural spring near by....

There is water nearby in all these canyons and there was more flowing water back then.

It sure is easy to tell the difference between the Asian markings from the celtic ogham ... notice how the so called guide is guiding people's attention away from the ogham cross. the Asian markings are always lite in color.

It would be sensible and logical to use accurate terms. They were not "Indians": Indians are from or in India, not the Americas. These were indigenous tribal people. 10:20 "Cave dwellers?" NO, they were Cliff-dwellings. Only at 10:38 was any cliff-dwelling shown. If, at the video's outset, you had said your were "going to show" (future-tense) a cliff-dwelling, it would have made sense, but to photograph a rock formation and say it is an ancient Indian ruin, is not an accurate or sensible statement. Thumbs Down.

I live 5 miles from this location and I think he did an excellent job of showing this magnificent site. His depiction is accurate and the title is spot on. Not to show the red rock walls and rock formations would be an injustice. My thumbs up cancels your thumbs down.
BTW, please notice the official names of some of our INDIAN reservations:
      "Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community"
      "Gila River Indian Reservation"
      "Havasupai Indian Reservation"

Perhaps if you can’t pronounce the name you shouldn’t have made the video.
