      To be fair, a single person shouldn’t be paying that much if they make less than 4 times that amount. She has a live in bf so that helps but if she was single, she should and hopefully would have a roommate. The most I ever paid in rent was $1400 (my part of a two bedroom) and I made $100k and that was NYC, not Portland Oregon so it should be possible to pay less.

They even have a middle barrier wall. For a college kid? You can totally get by, especially if you're okay getting your hands dirty. A lot of apartments will allow their tenants to paint the walls if they pay an extra fee, as when the tenant moves out - they'll have to go back to whatever the property colors are normally. Additionally, if it's not done well, that can come out of the tenant's deposit.

      Keep looking if ya got time! You can easily get a duplex for this cost and have yourself a mini yard and way less neighbors. It is possible! Houses also are rented out around $1700 in the metro area if you can foot the additional $300. I just had to move in May and got an amazing 2bd 2 bth 1100 sq ft duplex with a garage and yard for $1300 in SE Portland. It's possible, look for owners who are renting themselves. Craig's list can be sketchy, but it also has many hidden gems!! Its nuts though, my first apartment here in 2002 was a 2 bd 1 bth for $475... inflation is insane! 😳

    Credit score should not factor at all in renting.
    It has no bearing on how you treat the place. If your income is high enough to afford the place and you have no prior evictions, what does it matter if your score is 450 or 800

    • @JoeGatz1

      As a former property manager, I cannot tell you the number of renters we have approved with borderline acceptable credit who ended up skipping rent, paying late constantly, or causing significant damage. I believe in most cases your FICO does reflect your financial responsibility.

    • @missj5564
      @missj5564 3 роки тому +2

      If your credit score is lower, one should work to improve it. Creditors look at your credit worthiness and if your score is less than the minimum or average score, they look at it as you not being responsible with paying your bills in a timely fashion. Cash is king, but credit is power. It is the American way.

How many people including yourself do you know that make 5,000/month and are willing to move into a single bedroom apartment, 700 sq feet ?? I cant stand how Portland has shifted.
