  • In this video I run through the steps needed to install the instruments and content included in the Absolute Collection 4 - generally downloading and running the installer for an instrument, and using the Library Manager to install the content from it.
This is shown on a Macbook, but is the same on Windows.
Released on an 'Odd' day as this is something you'll need to install rather than a 'learning' video... will back back to 'every other day' from the next video onwards.
This series is my tiny attempt to get people doing something productive while being in lockdown at home - learning how to create music using Steinberg's Cubase Elements, which has a 60-day free trial available as part of the #StayHome initiative:

If you feel this series has been useful to you (and you can do so), please support me by purchasing the full version of my book:

As with many other freelancers around the world, I have no work on my books for the next few months, so every purchase will be appreciated - even though there is currently a long delivery delay (understandably) on Amazon.
    Thanks!

Thanks for that video! I am pretty knew to this and you helped me out :)
Just one question. I was downloading "The Grand 3" but after starting the program and selecting a piano it says: "Model [...] not installed!" (P.S. but they pop-up in the library manager :D)
Can you somehow guess, what might went wrong?

You may want to take a look at the Steinberg Library Manager, to make sure if all the content is properly installed. I will be doing a video on that in the near future.

By the looks of this, I don't need to place the license for Absolute Collection on the USB eLicenser like I do the Cubase 11 license is this correct? It looks like it's just a soft license, tied to my Steinberg account and using the download assistant, no messing with the elicenser software or the USB eLicenser? I hope you can help. Thank you

I am thinking about buying Absolute Collection 5, I hope it have not changed from the Absolute 4 way of doing things?

Hi Nick. The current version is eLicencer only (I'm not sure whether you can use it without a dongle as I don't have Absolute Collection, but I think you can use it without one), so you should be OK without the USB elicenser. Having said that, if you have a USB one then you may as well put it on there as you can then move it to another computer easily if you need to. Future versions will be Steinberg Licencing compatible (see my SAM video on this), so then it will definitely be no dongle, but not sure how long it will be before this happens.

@@musictechtuition thank you :) I might do that then, the dongle is a bit weird though, it insists I only have Elements despite having upgraded to Artist, it Insists the elements license is non upgradeable and the license to upgrade elements can’t find the elements license, but the program works with the USB eLicenser anyway, I don’t know why. Do you know if Absolute 5 will run on 8 GB ram? I only have one machine, laptop with 8 GB. I want to get all I can out of Cubase 11 artist. I might eventually upgrade to 12 but I don’t want to crash the program if it’s all or nothing and it would go well you only have 8 GB ram I’ll just slow to a crawl.

@@NickAsselberghs Steinberg says 16GB for Absolute 5, and I'd think some of the patches will be pretty memory-hungry, so it may be a stretch at 8GB. 12 won't be an issue as such, RAM use is much more for sound banks etc, than just basic use. As for the licence issue, Steinberg support should be able to help out with that - that's an issue that I think you want to get sorted because it'll probably be a problem if you do want to move to 12.

@@musictechtuition Thank you :) you have been very helpful, I'll stay away from Absolute 5 then since I don't have the power to run them. I opened a ticket with them Steinberg , no answer yet, but it's only 4 days old the ticket. Hopefully in time they will answer it.

Good video but " if you know what you're doing which your probably don't"??. Would have liked to have seen you install to a different path. A lot of us keep our extra content/samples on seprate drives from the operating system.
