This could be the most authentic recreation of the disaster because it was filmed just a few years after, while many survivors were still alive. It also showed how people would have authentically acted during a crisis at that time.
They used footage from the movie, in the National Geographic documentary secrets of the Titanic, that's where you see the ship go down, in it's not shown in this movie, only the audio.

A Night to Remember is better. It shows the ship sinking in one piece, but I give that a pass because that's what they thought at the time, despite eyewitness testimony to the contrary. The reason I believe it to be the best is because it focuses on people who were actually on board like Commander Lightoller, the amazing officer who saved a lot of lives & kept a capsized lifeboat afloat till help arrived. The 1997 movie is just a boring romance movie that happens to be set on the Titanic & the real life people are just background characters meant to support the silly young couple & possessive fiance who never existed, which is sad to me.
I think that is true. They named the shit Atlantic and changed a few officers names in order to avoid them claiming it was based entirely off of Titanic.
