I found that strumming the strings while sliding your muted left hand can pickup interesting sounds over the harmonic areas. You can hear it on my posted Volcano track in between chord changes. The parallel synth pedal might be adding to it too.

That guitar solo segment sounded familiar. After pondering it for a spell it reminded me of the Top Gun theme guitar piece (Steve Stevens). It's not the same but has flavors much like it. Cool sounding none the less.
