AARHUS, Denmark (AP) - Denmark’s royal family on Sunday participated in a special “celebratory church service” at Aarhus Cathedral as the new King Frederik X, accompanied by wife Queen Mary and mother Queen Margrethe, waved to crowds gathered outside the 12th-century building that is the tallest church in the country.
The royal family drove 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) through Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city, from royal residence Marselisborg Castle to Aarhus Cathedral.
The church service came exactly a week after Frederik, 55, was proclaimed king after his 83-year-old mother Margrethe signed her abdication during a meeting with the government.
Aarhus resident Christina Elmstroem said she expects Frederik and Queen Mary to change the Danish monarchy “in their way.” She brought her children to experience the “big, major event.”
“So, it was an opportunity to go and see the new king and my kids are very excited about it,” she said.
Henrik Wigh-Poulsen, bishop of the Diocese of Aarhus, told The Associated Press they had just a few weeks to plan the service, and Frederik had a hand in planning it.

The Danish Royal Family have many extended cousins throughout other Royal European Families. Particularly close cousins in Scandinavia countries. I believe it was King Christian IX who had a lot of daughters who married high ranking European Royals. One of them, I believe, married King Edward VII of England.
I better look that up before I go on. Anyway, I think Danish people are very creative, intelligent, attractive, progressive, kind, with strong ethics and wonderful Health Care System! And they appreciate their Royal Family.

It was Christian IX that was known as the father-in-law of Europe. His daughter Alexandra married Edward VII.

Oh, Queen Margarethe’s father was King Christian X. It is an interesting philosophy that the Danish Royal Family want to alternate the names Frederick and Christian. While I have a great appreciation for the Danish people and their society and find them remarkable, they are not very creative with Royal names. Ok, so if all goes well, health and interest, next king will be King Christian XI. And that boy is very, very tall too. Seems like the European Royal families are producing tall people, both men and women. 😁✌️
To compare a 13 year-old girl to a 5 year-old boy is a total false equivalence.
