    If you want to know what was going through my head....
    Across the mountains, even though the wind was high and the clouds were few, I thought the chances of continuing to find climbs was actually very good. It was the middle of the day, and there was tons of sun on the slopes. We couldn't go absolutely baller because the terrain was so high as to cut into our working band, but I didn't see any reason to go very slow or deviate much.
    The jump to the grapevine was more of an experiment. I did see some wisps there, so I was pretty sure I would find something. I forgot that people told me that the wind funnels through there, so I did not take into account that I would be lower than I would expect. I barely arrived above the terrain...I'll definitely remember that for the future though :)
    Thanks for doing my homework for me! Nice one.

    Fun flying with you guys! I was chasing Ramy and didn’t realize you wear all behind us until we converged in that thermal.

    I always wondered if soaring would be right for me. I fly a PPG, my buddies and I usually try to avoid thermals so we launch late in the evening or early am. Your videos with music and narration are incredible! Really paints a picture of the hunt for thermals, your plan B scenarios, the strategy behind it... It's incredibly enlightening for those of us interested in becoming a glider pilot but unaware of the sport of the glide. Thank you for sharing and please keep them coming! Hopefully I'll see you in the sky somewhere!

      Thanks for the great comment. Lots of paraglider pilots migrate to gliders. Come join us! The performance will blow your mind. :)

    I'm a sailor and I keep thinking a headwind should actually be able to be "tacked" or zigzagged into at about fourty five degrees and this should actually give you lift at the same time as traveling into it...?

    • @BenHirashima
      @BenHirashima  2 дні тому +1

      If only! A headwind only detracts, in the case of aircraft.

    14:10 "I figure this is my chance to catch up to Ramy", said no one correctly, ever. Lol. He does have you beat by about 15%? all day, so no shame there I'd say. Nice flight!

    Glider flying seems a lot like sailing. You may be going the same place but you likely wont take the same route and get different wind

    • @BenHirashima
      @BenHirashima  13 годин тому

      That's true, there are a lot of parallels. Both are propelled by moving air.

    The safety risks when outlanding in the US is coming from the owner of the field you're landing on . He could welcome you wth a salvo of his "assault rifle" for daring to land on his piece of dirt without his permission .

    What camera do you use? The cockpit view does not show additional camera. Therefore, you use only 1 camera. Vibrating scene shows the camera is attached to your head. It is a mystery how you take this video. A glider pilot in Oregon.

      @@CazYokoyama I use an Insta360 X3, mounted on the side of the cockpit
