Optical illusions are fun to look at and can tell us a lot about our sense of sight. What are your thoughts on the way the eyes work?

I find it amazing what we put our eyes through every day with every move ,every action and vision of light, extreme or blunt. What our eyes have seen and what we remember are two different things but...Are they really? Your eyes can hold a lot of information but there is a limit. The brain will hold yours to memory but the eyes is your software. Just my opinion.

Guys I once saw the sun for like 2 seconds when I was 2 years younger, and from that moment and so when I look at bright places, I see many red little dots in the same place I saw it. Did I damage my eyes completely? What can I do? It doesn't hurt me in particular it just worries and annoys me. I'd appreciate some help on what to do🙁

I agree. We can still see things even our eyes closed by using our brain, but also by the information stored in our brain given by our eyes. Get my point? 😅 I'm not good at explaining but my brain tells me everything lol

    • @Erick-zj1ld

This is true, eyes using rods and cons convert light into electrical signals (nerve impulses in the form of action potentials) that are then transmitted to the occipital lobe to be translated. The real mystery is does the brain knows what we see?, because all the brain has are billions of neurons and synapses that fire impulses in the way that enables us to define what we see.

I was taught that invisible light leaves the eye, bounces off the object, returns to the eye then the brain tells you what you're seeing. I can't find that anywhere on the web though. Anybody here heard of that?

After becoming knowledgeable on how a camera works you increasingly become aware that there is very little correlation on how a camera and an eye perceive perspective, line, color and tone. The brain is constantly compensating for the inadequacies of the data being received from the eye.

I spent my career in ophthalmics...when i create a 3-D model of an object, like an apple, the computer needs inputs along 18 different parameters!....your BRAIN is effectively calculating those parameters, from the data sent by the retina, FOR EVERY OBJECT IN YOUR FIELD OF VIEW!! Some it can recall from having previously imaged that object (my dog), but what power! The brain also has hints from its first glance at a scene...it tends to try to resolve vertical orientation of an object first, then to look for straight lines to define edges.
BTW: I think there is a better answer to Senile Macular Degeneration than anti- angiogenesis...that approach is shoveling against the tide.
