It really bugs me that any dealers would now start weighing junk silver when they buy it. They sure weren't weighing it when they sold them to us.
Hey Speg...Here is your 71 year old friend in Philadelphia saying Been
There, done that. I think I told you that during 1980 the refiners got to
the point where they were so overloaded they were NOT buying. My
scrapper at the time, a dear friend, would call and tell me not to come
to sell for about a week. I can remember her having large trashcans full
of silver dollars. So, one day I was taking the train home from NYC and
saw the afternoon headlines " METALS MARKETS CRASHED".
Fun times....
That was an awful time,I still have plenty of rolls I bought prior to the crash. Silver spot has a way to go before I can break even on them. I still have animosity towards the Hunt Brothers still.
Wait until it hits $50/oz❤
I believe will will not get near melt value for post-1964 Kennedy's or war nickels due to the huge cost to refine.
40% Kennedys r not hard to refine. Nickels because of magnesium are
Ty for the pledge of allegiance to our American flag!! ❤ I also just order a silver American 1oz flag!
🇺🇸✋/❤
It's crazy how much silver has climbed this year. Hopefully it can hold these prices. Thanks, Speg!
Let me rephrase your statement "It's crazy how much value the dollar has lost this year".
@@bubbajones4522 The US dollar lost more in 2023 than it has in 2024
Thank you so much for this information. Greatly appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
More they melt the more the ones left will be worth
I have a ton of Canadian copper. Need to find someone who is willing to melt them down. Take whatever that make and buy more silver.
Love the anthem at the end! Class act, thank you!
I ain't melting nuttin! Ha
Melt value doesn’t mean you’re melting it 😅
@@Spegtacular Actually it does....You have a fellow dealer in Spring Hill FL that will promptly correct you when you say "spot" versus "melt"....Also, he is sending almost everything to the refiners including mixed date US Silver Eagles and certainly anything foreign like Krugerrands, Maple Leafs and any bar.
@@wientzer what are they doing with these that they're making more from the end result than they'd make from selling US Silver Eagles?
@@Spegtacular just stating...no bueno nada zip zilch no way Jose!
@@PtotheMtotheK The other Spring Hill shop only sells US Silver Eagles if they are retail friendly and in "blast white" condition. If not, they are subject to me melted.
Love the Peace Dollar! Not usually as worn as a Morgan. Nice pop in value.
When I jumped in the game... I went to eBay, and the most they had was walking liberty's. So I jumped in. 5 dollars a POP! Close to a thousand I have stacked.
I collect gold and silver. I won't sell. Thanks for sharing with us 🙏 God Bless
Thanks for the video Sir..👍👍👍
Thanks for the info on this silver. I just inherited a bunch of this stuff and have been learning about it.
Crazy this video came out today. My father in laws barn with a safe of coins burnt down. I'm going through to try and liquidate what I can for him. All the coins damaged and only worth melt. One thing I learned from all this is not to store coins in plastic in the safe cause the plastic will melt and ruin your coins. Tough with graded coins. Maybe need to address that separately. A safe that can withstand higher temperatures. I'm still a rookie myself
Great video, thanks!
very cool, i won't sell, unless i really need to
Very informative video. Love 90%
I’m thankful your channel showed up for me. Great channel. I was pleasantly surprised at the pledge of allegiance to our Flag. Not just any flag but our Flag. The Red White and Blue Flag!!! Great advice looking forward to seeing a lot more from you. I will catch up on old videos as wey 👍
I stick to FDR dimes '64 Kennedy half dollars for this very reason. U can get Kennedys in vg to excellent condition all day long.
I just melted quite a few olympic commemorative dollars and added fine silver to them to make sterling silver for silversmithing
I dropped my 401K down to minimum and the money I was putting in the 401 I know by physical silver. I was able to get 35 ounces of constitutional silver for $1024.00 $50 face Half of the coins, I had a San Francisco, mint mark. I got four standing liberty quarters And a lot of 1964 a.u thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise and for taking us on your adventures through coins hello from romulus Michigan brother and thank you again and GOD-BLESS
Wow, going to see some nice coins go to melt.
wholesalers their not paying .72 oz money on .68 oz coins and neither do I when I dig in bin boxes at LCS I pluck out XF and above. Do you buy a double cheese with 1 patty will you buy a quart of oil 3/4 full? Its margins the cut goes 4 ways simple economics. Buy 10 oz bars avoid the wear.
Another great show awesome info.
Thumb up #723 Now let's get down! I love junk SILVER! Let's go!
I liked this vid Spectacular short but sweet! Thanks for the knowledge keep em coming!
I was trying to think that stuff. TY
LOLOL. Who didn't know that some LCSs would start weighing when it comes to stackers selling back to them. My LCS, at least, lets me sort through the 90% stuff I buy and weed out the extremely worn coins. He knows it's not right to sell to me by face value and offer to buy back by weight. But, not everyone is fortunate enough to have good, fair people like my dealer to deal with.
Great video J. Salute from a Patriot.
Excellent information
Me personally I don't buy silver or gold as an investment. I buy it to hold wealth. Any time I need a little money for emergencies. I have it. Price. will go up. Price. will go down.
Another great video as always Speg 🇺🇸
Glad I stuck it out and kept stacking for the last several years.
Great video Spegs
Great video, just proves the fiat dollar may no longer be worth the paper it is printed on.
This is your brain on the PGMs 🤦
Hello Speg Tacular
I was waiting for the discussion on the melt value of the US copper Pennies (cents).
3 cents is great! I have a 5 gallon glass jug for copper memorial cents. Maybe around 1.5-2 gallons!
I'm completely new at this & have a question about separating & organizing junk silver coins for safe keeping. I have a modest amount of pre 1965 dimes - quarters - half dollars & also silver dollars (enough of it to take a little bit of time to organize - but not enough for it to be worth crazy amounts of money). All of it has been circulated - but some pieces are in much better shape then others. I was considering - for counting, valuing, organizing & compact storing purposes - separating all the different types of coins & putting them into paper rolls. In this process - should I put any effort into the time consuming task of sub-separating these coins into rolls by level of "estimated" circulated condition or would that generally be a waste of time? Thank you for reading :)
I always kept 20xFV as my metric against spot when silver was below $28
I did the same cept I was after half made a hundred face now I'm good on that it's to spend atm for me anyways I'm holding
@@mattmatt6572 well if I find one in change i love to tell people the profit i made. Dimes were $2 lol now they're more 🤣
I find a peice in my change every year or two
Bullish on gold and silver love it
Just got a 1oz silver Trump coin off Amazon for $42 $10 over spot, why that coin it was the cheapest. plus I don't have a problem with Trump he knew how to run a country and North Korea was almost allies with the U.S. it was like living in a parallel universe seeing him and Kim John Un shake hands. also seeing how his body guards panicked when he entered North Korea was entertaining because this guy does what he wants and I respect that.
Silver just hit $32 spot. Crazy how even a humble War Nickel is worth over $1.80 now.
My video became obsolete within mere moments!
Just have a feeling that Monday will show a pullback on silver so I'm going to watch and buy accordingly. Thanks for showing that beautiful SLQ during this video, Speg.....for me, it's THE most beautiful coin made ( silver that is). Take care, be safe and God bless!
I'm a fan of both Standing and Walking Liberty. Lot of classic commems too.
Idk it's different this time it seems. It's up over a percent all ready it opens at 6 pm est
Right now at monex is at 32.50. 8% up
No way silver is pulling back on Monday. Silver broke out and closed over a key technical level on Friday. When that happens all the trading algos and the CTAs typically pile in. This in turn will squeeze anyone who was short because they were expecting silver to pull back and keep trading in its channel. The forced short covering will add even more fuel to the upward fire so expect more upward price action on silver until the wise guys decide to ring the register.

How much are Nickels worth?
The weight will count is what Guy said in a much earlier video
I'm eyeballing a heap of hideous scrap sterling... as we speak.. I think it's time.
I always wonder if all the people that said they'd "back up the truck" when silver was going back to $9 when it was $12-$14, and never did, were the same people saying they'd "back up the truck" if silver ever went below $12 again when it was $15-$19, and it never did, who were the same people saying silver would go back to $15 when it was consistently over $20, and it never did, who are the same people now saying it'll fall back down....
Weiners.
I did.
Funny how they'll sell them to you at face, then buy them back by weight...
Looking forward to the day I sell my copper pennies hahaha
The tactic is greed
Wait until the hold rates metals will pull back 10 percent minimum. When they raise rates it will fall into abyss
Melt it all
Hi
Every1 is paying less than melt
I paid $0.05-$1.35 for all my war nickels
Please, please, please don’t melt pre-33 gold.
Happens a lot. They made so many jewelry pieces and shops often pop them out of the bezels and melt them. Jewelry-grade is a bit harder of a sell.
@@Spegtacular Let’s just call it “junk gold” and save it! 😆
Some people love the jewelry grade stuff because it’s often cheaper or sold at or near melt. For me, if I’m buying a coin, I want some numismatic value too.
Some of my pre33 is in bezels for necklaces. I wouldn't dare drill it like folks have with old silver coins (my profile pic is of my necklace covered in 1800s US coinage). I have one gold coin ring, it's a tenth AGE bezeled in a ring. I love my coins made into rings by some cool method but yeah don't tamper with "junk gold" of any country
Last year I got a 1913 $2.50 indian head for melt because once upon a time it was a cufflink (it had a blob of gold on the back to hold on the T part). I mounted it in a ring :)
I'm wearing my only coins shirt right now hahaha but yeah it is a shame to care about the weight because the Romans didn't care about it when the fiat was forced on us, and, these are still technically legal tender, they aren't bullion, being why they are sold by the face value, Not by the content. He gonna pay for the copper, too?
You ever wear it outside the house and get people lookin?
@@Spegtacular of course, I wear it almost weekly and no one has pointed out the exposed torso area but people do get a bit of a kick out of it from a distance because of the pun you have created
Teehee
Any1 want to buy unc 40% halves?
Counting the weight of silver? Did we not win two wars against a country that did weight, and WE went the percentage route of currency to spite them. Just imagine if we forget history and repeat it! How dare you! That's also why the US has never had a "penny", we have the one cent. I make it a point to correct people because it's my patriotic duty.
I remember back when I could get 10 lb boxes of copper cents for just under $30, just to fill up my ammo cans even further. I wouldn't sell them because of the whole fees and taxes crap you do selling things online, but, if they ever do remove the coins from circulation, of course my horde will go to the scrap yard to get melted down
These are the prices…
This is the price… 🙄
I’m not sure what you’re talking about.
"I pledge allegiance to God and there the list ends." -- General Sam Houston, President of Texas. paraphrased.
I
Pray to God. Period.
Who is melting these Coins and Why are they melting these Coins.
At melt doesn’t mean someone’s melting them. Same thing as spot price.
That being said.. many many many of these coins have been melted.
