Some very interesting words and thoughts, love the work and sound of the late Frantisek Posta, but I would also love to hear about the French bow, Franco Petracchi comes to mind. Thanks for sharing / creating this.

I could listen to you all day. Knowledgable, generous, gossipy, poetic, passionate. But never mind the bows please tell me ALL those instruments aren't yours too!!

I wish. No these instruments are all part of the Thomas and George Martin collection.

Congratulations on bejng in such an elite group musician. I Thought I was one until I saw your video. Now I realize me and the other bassist I've played with through the years are uninspired instrumentalist hacks.

Oh, GOD please help me I am a German bow player and have come to terms with this situation.
But recently I needed to get it rehaired and I was left with the French bow that came with my Double Bass .
I have not been able to get "master/control" the French Bow , but as you mentioned in your tutorial ' you play with what you have .'
So I picked up my French bow ,apologized to all in advance and started my warm up routine.
I now have a little ottoman next to me when I practice and on it lays my French and German Bows...
When I'm playing with the German bow I ache for my French bow and when I'm playing with the French bow and all is right with the world.
And when the awful wrist pain starts setting in I put my French bow down and pich up my German bow and just carry on playing..
My question to you Sir is.....Surely you are meant to pick a style and try to master it ?
If I'm switching between bows is it because I'm not sure of myself and that awful crippling self doubt is showing it's ugly face again ?
I would welcome any advice thank you.
    Cheers Gavin...
P.S As I have already mentioned that you said in your tutorial " you play with what you have." I am a 6.2 tall man and I play on a 1/4 size Double Bass???
In South Africa the selection of available Double Basses is rather small and what is available is very very expensive .
That being said I know it's the wrong size by far BUT I love it and have adapted too it's dainty little fingerboard and believe me I have to play with a very heavy practice mute due to death threats from my neighbors....

So many truths. Look closely at your bowing every morning as you warm up.

Me again...its just some pieces sound better when I use the German bow but some sound better with the French bow surely I'm meant to choose a direction, like with all the different schools for fingering options (Simandl, Brile etc) I feel like a bit of a 'Jack of all trades , master of none' sort of thing...

What kind of "double bass technique lesson" contains no demonstration or examples? You'll be much better off using these 16 minutes as practice time.
