Redemption scratch off cards happen when it's difficult for the company to get the athlete to sign autographs for the cards before the release of the product. Redemptions are put in place of actual autographs because the athlete will eventually be available to sign autographs, just not in time for release. One thing that's unfortunate about this is that sometimes redemption autographs will take a very long time to make it to you. Some people wait 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, or more to actually get the autographed card.
