“Words do not express thoughts very well; every thing immediately becomes a little different, a little distorted, a little foolish. And yet it also pleases me and seems right that what is of value and wisdom of one man seems nonsense to another.” -Hermann Hesse
Think about how cool it would've been if you received a copy of that guys scetchbook with the album, then you could go through it as you listened to it. Audiovisual tripping would be at it's peak.
One of my all-time favorites..if you liked Cosmogramma you might enjoy Wormholes by Causmic..Leigh also did the artwork for his album & Causmic animated it.

I've deleted albums because of covers that did not depict the content. A cover that goes with the music enhances my experience... one example is Atrocity Exhibition by Danny Brown. The grim look of the cover is a mood setter even before Downward Spiral cuts on.
I understand what hes saying when he talks about losing elements of thought when trying to transcribe such thoughts in a word form. You sort of just have to relax and let your deeper mind have control of the pen as opposed to constantly being concerned with whether or not people can fully decipher (they can't) your work.
The Codex Books are for sale. There are three volumes. Here is a link for all of Leigh J. McCloskey's books. Enjoy. www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&ref_=nb_ss_gw&Go.x=0&Go=Go&Go.y=0&field-keywords=tarot%20revisioned&url=search-alias%3Daps
@ta11child101 Those sketchbooks are "Codex Tor Book 1 Summer Solstice" and "Codex Tor Book 1 Winter Solstice." Look 'em up on Amazon. You can buy them.
yea thats completley true. and if you have ever done psychedelics you would know that those experiances cant be explained with words, all words do is dull them down, so many of artists (Flying Lotus, Alex Grey, etc) express these experiances through different mediums than just words, like art and music. i just put it as simple as it could be put haha
No need to reduce it to something so trivial. Not all thoughts and ideas can be reduced to words. Some concepts come through better in art and music. FlyLo's music really reflects that.
Talk about a trip. I honestly wish I heard of this guy beforehand, otherwise it would have really given me more confidence in perusing art as I was younger. And for those of you lost in what he's talking about - I think he's simply referring to the fact that (as artists) we struggle to find some meaning behind what we create when we get that "spark", only to lose that meaning down the road. McCloskey wanted to find a way around that - to create WITHOUT meaning and let the work define itself.
These drawings are executed in the same way that renaissance grizelle's are made. I guess it's just funny to me that this artist talks of creating a new process when he is actually utilizing very old techniques to create new expression. Our collective existence is most certainly cyclic - Let us forget together.
You can have this notebook. It comprises three books and they are The Codex Tor series: Book One-Winter Solstice, Book One-Summer Solstice, Book Two-Equinox/Mysterium Magnum. They are amazing. Go to Leigh McCloskey's website which is his name for details.
Codex Tor is the name of Leigh J. McCloskey's three illuminated books composed of over 500 hand drawn and painted images. The first book, Codex Tor I: Winter Solstice, is posted on his site: leighmccloskeydotcom. To purchase these books and explore his prolific body of work, visit his website. Really wonderfully mind-blowing work!
its not an origional song, FlyLo worked with a bunch of artists that play strings, harps, and most of the instruments u hear in cosmogramma. its not like he just found those samples, he had the ideas and he needed someone to help him record the string parts. the song in the backround is from the outtakes of cossmogramma, there is a version thats just the string arangement.
If the body dies, so too, does the mind. If the mind dies, the body is left without purpose, and goes to waste. I'd say they are intertwined on an intrinsic level.
Some people are too hard set in the concrete ideas of this world and need a bridge to spiritual discovery. It's no more a crutch than a door way to a deeper understanding.
I am working on a book called the Planetsmiths Codex and it has a multitude of illustrations and a written language I've given no phonetic meaning to, yet remains consistent and technically DOES follow a narfative. I don't even know if it's an alphabet, abjad, or syllabry. I wish I could share it.
@LfunkeyA I didnt say that the ultimate destination is tragedy, i said the ultimate tragedy is that all things must pass: career, popularity, good looks, youth...
I have no idea what he just said. I mean as a lover of wisdom I am pretty in tune with what it means to approach things from different angles, but this entire section seemed like gibberish to me. I must say though, I just saw him on an episode of Deep Space 9 from like 12 years ago and boy was he handsome. He looks old and tired now. That in and of itself is the real tragedy, the ultimate truth here. All things must pass: career, popularity, good looks, youth...
On the laptop at the end, there is an animated cosmogramma cover art, WHERE CAN I FIND THIS VIDEO?!?!? I have researched and gotten everything related to flylo, but I've never seen this
@wowter93 its simple, get the bark boil + freeze.... tada.. obviously more refined than that! you honestly dont need to be a science geek/major/.teacher to achieve some good results! not that im saying ive tried it!!
Really like this comment. Did you come up with that phrase yourself or is it a quote? If so what from!? Thanks for the message regardless of its origin.
To me album covers are really important. It's the eyecatcher and influences the way you listen.
So agree with this. It literally affects/effects the way the music looks in your head as you listen.
Fr, a bad cover can ruin an album

fucking spot on, 100%
I need help finding documentaries like this. It is really inspirational and sparks creativity.
Makes me want to get super baked and paint.
I hate these sort of comments. But I listened to this album stoned a few days ago. Seriously one of the best experiences you can have. Give it a go.
'Los Angeles' too!

Zodiac Shit is the closest a song has ever come to giving a high without being high. If you are high its like being too high.
Try tripping to this album
Even his debut "1983" is quite an experience
This man's artwork is beautiful. Despite its abstract nature, it just oozes life.
i wish this was two hours long

Thanks 🙏🏿

most great albums have a great cover tbh

What an honor to live in the in the same time-frame as you Mr Leigh ✨
Mindblown, this is beyond my level of comprehension and rendering....
Brought my itunes to life with the art...
Such beauty and art. Truly part of out soul now that we experienced it.
I always thought the album artwork was inspired by Sun Ra "Sleeping Beauty". Guess it's just a strange coincidence??
+Tommy O. idk had the same feeling with several artworks
I think this album is one of the best albums of the 2010s.
What an adventure...
two great artists.

there's a general consensus in the spiritual community that the clean mind is the truest and most reliable way to reach enlightenment.
Zodiac Shit by Flying Lotus, off of his album Cosmogramma. Do yourself a favor and listen to album all the way through. It's a wonderful journey
I forgot to post as a reply. The name of the book is, as I mentioned above, Codex Tor I: Winter Solstice. Check it out on Leigh's website
