I came across your channel via YT suggestion and I am glad I did. I am presently at the office and this music is perfect to listen to during work. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Philip Thanks! I am usually happy to share, but I think I accidentally saved over the final version of this. Maybe I can find a previous saved version this weekend.
This is really pretty, sad there are no wires though, seeing all the wires is my favorite part, didn't even know you could hide them Was fun kinda just improvising a slow melody on my piano while this played since you have the scale right there in the bottom leftish
I would love to hear your piano improv, you can send it via patch storage patchstorage.com/author/massi/ I love the patch cables too. I remove them before recording the video because I am trying to cater to a wider audience also outside of the VCV community.
@@massimillennium Oh it's not talented piano playing! I just noticed your quantizer on the bottom middle left there and was dancing around with one note on one hand, no chords or anything like that, nothing worth recording xD I know it would be a bit of a task, but have you/would you consider making a video where you break this patch down, showing off how you made the different layers, generated the notes and chords, effects, oscillators, And different tricks you use to do useful things with signals for generative music? I would love to learn from you, or if you know some excellent tutorials. I've been playing around trying to make some generative music of my own but I struggle with a) making good sounding voices and b) making good generative chord progressions, I can do random or preset but I want to generate chord progressions with some logic? so it flows together well
@nebbyott I've considered doing some tutorials but I really don't have the patience, and there are so many great tutorials out there I'm not sure viewers would really benefit from my tutorials. The tutorials of Omri Cohen are really good with some really interesting patching tricks. VCV rack ideas channel is really good for sound design. For sound design I usually find something I like, maybe an aphex twin track, concentrate on a single voice and try to replicate (e.g. aphex uses a lot of 2 voice square VCOs slightly detuned) and then maybe modulate so it fits better in my patch. In terms of progressions and music theory I really enjoy the open studio jazz tutorials (e.g. cush chords lesson is so good I've applied those harmonies quite a few times) I play the piano a bit so that helps. In this case I believe I just took the progression of From Gagarin's Point of View of Esbjorn Svensson Trio, 3 chords and a couple arpeggios tuned to the key, nothing more. So in terms of progressions I sometimes just pick a song I like and start from there, maybe adding some slight sophistications but nothing more. Hope that helps in the meantime.
I’m so confused but greatly enjoy this patch. Is there any chance you could give a brief rundown of what’s happening? The Bernoulli gates are for random voice triggers right? And slather in reverb? Very curious how this is built and progresses the way it does.
I force myself to stick to a color theme because usually there are more ways to get to the same sound output and this way I explore new modules and learn more ways to use modules I use more often :) I'm glad you enjoyed this!
Thanks! 100% agree on the interruptions, there is nothing we can do about it on our side. I think it would be a much better user experience (as well as better for advertisers) that where advertising is necessary, the user can select to listen to it all at once at the beginning and then enjoy the content without interruptions.
And Omri is really a blessing: he is sharing his patches with the community - in the meantime I also support him on Patreon because without him I would have probably give up.
Hi, thanks I am glad you appreciate it. I don't have the equipment or the experience to give video tutorials. There are some great VCV rack and modular tutorials out there (Omri Cohen and others). If you pause the video you can figure out most of the patching even if cables are opaque. Maybe off topic or not, I built this on a rainy weekend in Amsterdam, away from family, with many thoughts and inspiration. I have built way more "sophisticated" patches, yet viewers seem to appreciate this one the most. This is to say for me it is always love and inspiration over technique. Not sure you can put this in the essay 😅
The Visualizer is LFM by RPJ (lovely visuals, but quite intense on the GPU and sometimes crashes). I lost the patch file unfortunately :( I have some other similar patches on patch storage patchstorage.com/author/massi/
No such key as D flat minor. Its hypothetical relative major would have to be F flat major, which doesn't exist because there's no way to specify the key signature that would define it. (B, E, A, D, G, C, F, then B double flat??? That would be contradictory. But C# minor / E major is just fine. F#, C#, G#, D#.) 🙄🤣 IYKYK
You are correct, while theoretically possible, doesn't make any sense. More than a year has passed so I don't remember entirely the process, but I remember using some cords and notes from a handwritten transcript of an Esbjörn Svensson Trio track I found online (written with the incorrect key). From the chords in chord-key and the notes in the quantizer it is in A flat or F minor. Thanks for noticing.
Indeed it is boring and until a few years ago I would have likely been drawn away from this. I personally found a moment in life in which the word boring has a positive meaning. So boring is kind of the goal 🙃
This…this is what I want to create! I just need to learn more about modular systems
Wow, I`m amazed by the complexity this patch while maintaining such a light ambience. Congratulations on your music Massi, I enjoyed the whole hour.
Thanks Rafael
I listen to this every time I want to fall asleep.. And it really helps! Right away
This kind of music helps me sleep better at night.
Oh, how wonderful! I dream of doing things like that with VCV Rack. Congratulations, and best regards from Barcelona
Thanks!!

Thanks! I am really glad you enjoy it and that it fits with your work
Any chance you would do a tutorial on producing similar sounds from VCV? If not, thats ok too. Great work!
Excellent! Well done, thanks Massi !
Thanks, I really appreciate it
That's a lot of modules to produce a very modest soundscape, it's a Rube Goldberg of a fashion.
Very cool!
Outstanding work!
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
Hello. I would like to pass away to this.
Nice look and nice music as usual. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Sam!
This is awesome! What is that sweet visualizer top right? The whole patch is a dream, very nice work.
I found it, its the RPJ LFMEmbedded
@@Ecoat-ki3ihThank you!!
Thanks, and apologies for the late reply, I see another viewer answered correctly, it's LFM by RPJ...
Awesome sound, love it...keep it comming ;-) ... any chance to get the patch ? ;-)
Very beautiful
Thanks a lot Alchemist, and hope you keep up with the great work you are releasing on your channel
Super!

Sure!
how did you get all of the modules to be that color? love the music and visuals

how does one go about getting the project file for this? :)
what is that visualizer called? and the 1u lights? incredible
LFMEmbedded by RPJ and Light Strip by Count Modula ;)
@@massimillennium do not use the LFME in a patch inside Ableton Live. It will not open once closed and your Live Set will be garage.
is it available on Apple Music?
Glad you enjoyed the track. No, not yet, I am still considering options for distribution :)
Magnificent. Is the moving image in the upper right corner generated by a vcvrack module?
Thanks! Yes, by LFME
how much does it cost?
Does vc rack also use a lot of cpu??
a lot of GPU... you will find more info on this and most suitable device requirements in VCV rack community forum ;)
Don't listen to Zyx Yuv - excellent work again Massi
Yes don't listen to that guy, this is beautiful. Few mins in and already in the right headspace.
how do u get lfme to look like that lmfao i can never get it to look good
