According to some very quick research, the big square facades were apparently used to hide the typically shabbier look of the actual structural part of the building. It apparently made the building look much more grand than what the builder could actually afford, and was usually for commercial buildings.
Another thing is that all these towns typically platted very wide streets due to the often very rapid growth they could experience. So they would use the front of the building to make the building appear a story higher than needed so it would be more in scale with the street it fronted
Absolutely adore this one!!! I think the frozen north is shaping up to be my favorite part of San Bernardino zoo so far :) (i actually live really close to san bernadino in real life, this makes me wanna visit San Diego zoo so bad!)
Mentioning the raccoon gave me a thought! Perhaps similar to Nome, maybe you could do something similar with Dawson City, Yukon (Klondike Gold Rush and all). The raccoons’ little hands in the water make me think of gold panners, though raccoons don’t extend that far north (unless you wanted to take artistic liberties). Maybe the moose or beaver could be an water-y alternative? In any case, love the build. ❤️
6:33 The facades are used to 1. make the building look bigger 2. can be decorated to look much nicer than the actual building and 3. hide any unwanted features from being shown. You’ll still see this sometimes with more modern buildings where the facade extends a bit to hide HVAC systems and such. You’ll see it in a lot of really small american towns w older buildings and buildings built in the 1800s source: growing up around buildings like this
I know you’re also making a third Asia section, so I would heavily recommend taking a look at the Himalayan Highlands at the Bronx Zoo. This area has a highly naturalistic look to it with the many hills and rocky terrain. This area has snow leopards, red pandas and cranes, so you can add in snow leopards and red pandas, and then you also add the giant panda and maybe the takin or saiga as well
Copy and pasted from a website, but being a native Californian it lines up with what I've learned and been taught growing up in an old gold rush town "Almost always used for commercial purposes, false front buildings gave an air of dignity to a quickly growing town by providing visual continuity along the street. The style was popular in the West, after the California Gold Rush of 1849, as a way to make hastily built town buildings look more like the impressive commercial buildings of the East."
Beautiful build and I love watching ur videos. Just one thing that bothers me is the mammoth skeleton. The front legs don't bend back. They bend forward like our knees. I know, I'm being picky😅
I do just want to say that normally California sea lions are commonly kept in a bachelor group due to the amount they breed .in the wild sea lions will live in a group up to 80 if bread in zoos the male sea lions are kept in a different enclosure commonly ,but some zoos have kept them all in one group but this requires a large enclosure just like the one you built in san birnadino . I also think it looks better (:
Great Video! Polar Bears next week? I love the build and I specially like the fact you made the habitat realistic no snow basically even though the area is called frozen north!
Finally cervids in San Bernardino! These feel very special and somehow homey? (I'm from northern Quebec maybe that's why). Any plans for the red deer or fallow deer? This new area seems really promising!
It would be cool to have Arctic Wolves in this area and maybe have a predator prey habitat, where it looks from an angle like they both are in the same exhibit
Its so deceptively simple i love it Funnily enough reindeer are how i make the most cc (by breeding white ones and selling the males for 10k and the female for 8k)
“Korea is a fairly warm country” 😂 Nice try, no it’s not, they get more snow than most of Northern Europe does! Great habitat, wonderful animals :) Always great to see a new video out!
Should be doable, you have the restaurant so you can get people up in the tree using the tables. Check my base game only research centre video for ideas on building with no DLCs
Isnt it a bit dangerours to let the guests that close to the caribou? Ive never been to a zoo that had them before but wouldt that invite guests to feed them if they can be this upclose? Amazing build like always tho :)
Those facades are also in Europe, very especially in Holland (the coastal part of the Netherlands) where their purpose is to make buildings look bigger and hide poor roofwork
I have a question! When you decorate habitats with foliage, how do you deal with the animals prefered coverage amount? Its something i constantly struggle with when i want it lush and beautiful but my animals think its too much plants
Partially correct, but that's simply because the European populations are what were semi-domesticated. What ZSH said is still the general truth. Wild European reindeer are still referred to as reindeer.
Euros on the tv, san bernardino on my phone and some crisps on a saturday evening. Nothing better
Enjoy!
@@ZSHplays thanks
Who do you think is gonna win?

Love the idea with the floor pieces as river bedding! This video made me realise I never included the caribou in my zoos, something to fix!
Glad it was helpful!

Such an awesome zoo! I'd love to go back!
This new area is going to be so cool!
Excellent!
Oh man i can already tell this is going to be an amazing area ! Beautiful habitat as always!
Thanks!
Reindeer are pretty cool, and so is your habitat for them!
Amazing video ❤😊

Hah, cute idea!
such a nice habitat. i love all the ideas you put in your zoo, never gonna use them myself as I am way too lazy. But damn they look great! :D

great habitat for caribou ❤
Love watching every week 👍

Yes, this is the good stuff!
ngl i saw ‘meet cedric’ and thought you named the giant skeleton at first, then you cut to the adorable baby sea lion
Haha!
A nice start to 5he North American area❤

Just saw a mixed habitat for them at Vienna Zoo, was awesome!
Most zoos in the US have mixed sexed groups. I'm guessing they're on contraceptives.
Love the video ❤😊
Thank you!
If you put Chris McCandless’ bus in here somewhere it would be a great Easter egg
That's horrific 😆
@@ZSHplays yeah the ethics are dubious
Just so you know, in America we call call them Caribou when they are in the wild and Reindeer when they are in captivity!
Love The Series keep it going
Will do, thanks!
Kinda funny your doing the artic area while it's summer lol
It’s winter here in the southern hemisphere!!

Polar Bears will be later, probably the last animal I think
I love your channel especially I created every continent video!
Nice habitat. You know the frozen north has a lot of cool animals. How bout a couple of the biggest like the polar bear and the Alaskan moose?
Polar Bears are definite, Moose very probable
Norway is mentioned!!!🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴😂

Probably not although Red Deer have been introduced to the US so you never know!
Hail Cedric
Cedric be praised!
You should built a habitat for a red panda and a himalayan Brown bear
Really good idea
My favourite animal cant wait 😊
Enjoy!
Good choice!

what about a snow leopard? That woulf be cool. very much more exititing too
This is an American area so no Snow Leopards, sorry

Had an idea for a tree house style gift shop but I only have base game wondering if possible to do and how would it be done.

Frozen North looks like the 2nd biggest area
May end up the biggest!

Arctic foxes can live in hotter climates. There is a pair of them in my local zoo in Central Florida. Just a bit of info for their habitat.

I mostly ignore it, you can keep animal happiness in the 90s regardless of plants 😁
Square on front of buildings was so it could easily be painted to advertise business.
Interesting! All the ones I've seen have a simple sign like the one here so how would the front being square make that easier?
May I ask what computer set up you have, because I’d like to get the game but I’m afraid my old computer won’t keep up
Would you give any tips of decorating parts of my zoo between habitats
You see a lot of the inbetween bits on my tours of each area, I would recommend them!
Okay thx
Actually (here in the states at least) "Caribou" is the wild animal, and "Reindeer" is the domesticated animal
Ooh interesting, didn't realise you guys called them Reindeer as well!
@@ZSHplays most people consider reindeer the christmas-related animal, like Santa's reindeer. a wild herd of them would be Caribou :)

i wonder how the game feels about mixing the european and american bison
