Every day, I drive past the facility in St. Louis, MO. where these were manufactured. The building has long since been closed and now vacant, after watching this video, as i drive past the building from now on, I'm sure I'll hear the whispers of these giants thundering down the runway in front of the building, taking their first flights. Thank you for adding that pleasure to my drive to work each day.
The Grumman facility in Long Island NY has also fallen silent. A tragedy really. What it must have been like during its heyday, especially when F-14 Tomcats and A-6 Intruders ruled the skies. Floopy c, I share that sentiment.
Back in the 80's I was part of the engineering team to integrate the F-16's APG-66 radar into the JASDF F-4EJ's. The ground and maintenance crews took amazing care of these amazing aircraft. Nice to still see them serving Japan, quite a testament to all the people involved with designing, manufacturing, and maintaining F-4EJ's.
Ah yes, another great start to my day! I cannot help but wonder how many times, in countries from your own Japan, to Israel, to Germany, and of course the United States, and every country that flew this magnificent beast, those four-ship formations would go overhead and then into the break for the turn to final approach? How many times have ground crews watched those jets come out of the fog to touch down ever so gracefully? Countless times I would imagine. I especially liked how the pilot of 315 stroked her side as if to say, "Thank you for a good flight and for bringing us back." The scenes at the end, where the jet is catching the wire with its tailhook, reminds me of when they flew off of US Navy carriers the world over, but most especially Vietnam. I remember watching the marines of the VMF-171 Aces out of Naval Air Station Oceana fly those jets. A magnificent sight to behold. Fond memories. Arrigato.
Many people in Japan consider phantoms to be living things. I often see scenes of pilots and maintenance personnel talking to the aircraft. It's a very nice sight.
Amazing to hear Warhorse and 1-300.... so many memories from Iwakuni, west pac and Hawaii with that jet and in those squadrons. - impressive to see how well taken care of they were by JSDF crews.
I agree with you. I have sereved in the IAF in early 80's as a technician. In our base we had A-4's Skyhawks and F-4 Phanto's and also F-15 Eagls. Evaryone will tell you that every plane has it's own soul, a stranger will not understand that but it's the truth. Just look at us here, many of us are ex military personal, who have served with these beautyful machines, how happy we are with these beautyful videos made by our talented friend. I wish they will never stop flying ane he will never stop filming them
@@1-300 Yes, we who love our aircraft regardless if they're flight or ground crew, often talk to our birds, as I have often spoken to my F-14's. How strange it must seem to "outsiders," but I sit here smiling at the thought, and what it meant to me.
F-4 fired my imagination and inspired me to create, to write. My books wouldn't be what they are today, without me learning about this amazing aircraft!
You've captured the lighting perfectly in the beginning with the lights of the aircraft passing right over the roofs of Japanese houses. Japan has such a unique aesthetic that you always manage to portray well in you videos.
For a Nation that I Admire and Respect . Japanese Pilots have found a friend and Warrior to care for in the Phantom. Obvious All your people will miss this Old and Venerable friend a Great Deal. Thanks for Keeping the World Safe! All the Best from Texas!.
...I Remember seeing My 1st Phantom in 1981...LOVED THE AIRCRAFT EVER SINCE THEN...!!...Neat Markings You Have On Your PHANTOMS.!...MY Favorite Japanese Phantom is the BLUE CAMO.!..xxxx
Beautiful video and wonderful landing sequence of the 4 planes, making them look like they just dropped from the sky so gracefully one after the other. Your videos have the appearance of great art rather than something just done by a machine. The Human touch is very evident and makes the video appealing to everyone, even those that normally would not be interested in an aircraft video. For those of us that enjoy aircraft videos then this is super treat. The Japanese pilots make the planes look as graceful as the birds with their natural looking movements. I am enjoying every one of these and glad that I found this channel, I have, of course, subscribed. The engines in these have the new smoke reduction burners, the early planes were very smoky except when in at least the 1st stage of afterburner. You could see the smoke from far away, especially when landing, even before you could actually see the plane. These look better for the sake of the videos since there is no smoke at all.
Outstanding. Now all we have to do is tie those cables to a ship, and we've got carrier landings. Beautiful shots. I want to get my rotary mower out and mow those weeds around the runway.
Thank you again our friend for making us happy with your videos. The japanese Phantoms are very beautyful painted and well maintained. They should let you fly from time to time and take some aerial footage. Thank you
What an amazing videos about Phantom. Best videos I ever seen . I could imagine with the japan F-104, my fav plane. Well done Japan on these days of F-22, F-35,Typhoon... I want back Phantoms, Mirage, Vigen, etc
The QF-4s have been expended. It does make me sad, but at the same time the Q birds die a warrior’s death and advance the state of the art. They’re using QF-16s now.
I see the Japanese people ang goverment treating this FANTASTIC F-4 A "katana" sword beleiving the sword has a SOUL. They keep the jets alive as a reminder of a part of their freedom unlike other rich coutries who let the marvlous plane rust, under the heat of the sun.
The reason for the Frog is that in Japanese, the word for "frog" has the same sound as "come home". I think a good luck for the aircrew to return safely. The scarf, I guess to give the Frog an aviator flair. And the 7 stars because the 301st Squadron belongs to the 7th Air Wing. (It had 5 when it with the 5th)
In the case of this special marking airplane, in honor of both the 5th and 7th Wings, There are 5 stars on the left wing and 7 stars on the right wing. 9:33
Who would have thought, all these years later. F4's are the getting the respect and love after 50 years of service. How would the guys have known? The constant progression in quick succession from the F3 to the F101 and the F4 in only 4 years. I bet people were hanging on for an even greater jet. But no, the F4 was the final word, and way back in 1960.
It's only in this video that i saw that the yellow band around the cockpit really was tied like a scarf behind the canopy! I love it when the JASDF make special markings for their aircraft! Also, do you ever see the JASDF Phantoms train with live ordinance, or is it all just inert training weapons? In your videos I normally see clean aircraft (except fuel tanks) and maybe a blue inert AAM-3. =)
Thank you so much for your work in capturing the brutal looking Phantom in all it's majestic flying grace - a visual treat. Are you employed on base or are you given permission in order to capture your fantastic images ?
着陸時に脚やフックを下ろすと、昨年偵空隊が、入間で帰投時行った機動を思いだしました。フックを下げた着陸は、正に艦載機です。いつも貴重な記録有り難うございます。

The kind of vids that gets an immediate grin outta you: lyric, reminiscing and so inspiring!!!!.
Love starting my weekend watching Phantoms...superb job by the JASDF keeping these birds looking like they just came off the line!
もう引退直前なのに最新のF-35よりF-4の方がカッコ良く見えるのだが・・・そう言えば最近 10式戦車より74式戦車の方がカッコ良く見えてしまうwww
The best aircraft videos ever. I can watch them all day back to

Handsome aircraft and well done video, nice way to start my weekend. With the Huey and a number of F4 in the same shot looks like the early 70s.👌👌
I was thinking the same thing. Da Nang, Tahkli, Ubon, Bien Hoa, any number of bases in Southeast Asia, or even the Sinai.

Ok enough of that thanks for the great video!
A beautiful, brutish, powerful bird that served proudly. To think the US is using them as target drones is tragic.
I agree with you, how they can kill them like this
The Air Force claims they no longer use the Phantom for target practice. But yes, very sad way to go
The QF-4s have been expended. It does make me sad, but at the same time the Q birds die a warrior’s death and advance the state of the art. They’re using QF-16s now.
They were actually still in use in the gulf war as radar jammers and surface to air spotters.
