- The World Surf League Asia Pacific returns to Jinzun Harbour in Taitung County once again for the 2022 instalment of the Taiwan Open of Surfing. This year will see some of the best up and coming competitors from the Asia and Australia / Oceania regions converge on Taiwan for a women's Qualifying Series (QS) 5000 event men's QS 3000 event, as competitors vie for a spot on the 2023 WSL Challenger Series (CS).

Taiwan is a great surf island! Took my Lightning Bolt (late era single-fin) 6'8'' with me when I was hired (from Hawaii) as a radio DJ (ICRT) in '81. Glad I did! Surfed mostly on the NE side of the island (Foo Lung Park and mostly a spot called Ta Shi). had the best day of my 44 year surfing life at the latter the day before Typhoon Andy hit sometime in '81/'82, with only me and my surfin' pal, Butch Stiftl (whose Mom lived in Tien Mu, a suburb near Taipei) in the water...All-time session for sure. The Island's southern side is a big, long peninsula (Olanpi Point, south of Kaoshiung) that has a left point-break (Jialisue) that I rode on a mediocre day (incredible potential though!). If you go during the typhoon season you're sure to score, so if you're looking to 'holo-holo' (travel) consider going to Taiwan!

Best wind in Taiwan is on an island 50 miles west of main island. Makung Island in Phenog Peng

Every time I’ve checked surf in Taiwan and even China it’s pretty small. But I’m guessing if Israel can have a couple rideable days each year the same is probably true for Taiwan
