A very heartwarming interview with a musician who played some marvellous programs on the BBC; i remember some fine Nielsen, Busoni,(toccata!) and,on another occasion, (IMO),the best live Skriabin 4th sonata ever! That program also included excellent Medtner and Rachmaninoff. Thank you for the chance to "meet" this fine,(and modest) artist. His students are very lucky!
I can't imagine a time when I wouldn't just feel horrendous amounts of guilt for not playing piano enough! Good interview - he seems like such an insightful, nice bloke.
"A musician who plays the piano" indeed! Just came across Martin's first Beethoven sonata disc and was captivated by his playing. Hard for me now to listen to all the other versions of the sonatas I have. Look forward to exploring his other recordings. Thanks for a great interview.
Ah. Seeing this in 2021 and hearing the mention at 16' 06" of Peter Cropper. Alas, he had only two more years. Terribly sad.
