The life time athleticism, skills and choreography of the performers is beyond question as is the natural beauty of the dancer. Yet the story telling through the choreography is it would seem only guessed at by someone who is not schooled in the culture of the Islands always evolving as it should be. If there is a chance to have this part of the dance explained even if it were to sub titles or even as a guiding comment it would surely add another dimension to the viewers understanding and cultural participation don't you think?
Most people who watch this are Tahitians, and fellow Ori Tahiti dancers from around the world. They don't have to explain anything. Everything in Tahiti is choreographed, and centered around a theme. You want to know? Learn the language, learn the dance...
I don't know if Heiva i Tahiti is a show or federation. But the routines from this UA-cam channel are always original. As is the music. While including traditional moves. Something I'm not seeing in Hawaiian Hula videos. Same one tune. Not that much creativity in their routines. Looks "the same".
Heiva i Tahiti is a cultural festival celebrating art, dance, music and sports. Groups from all over the world get invited to Tahiti to participate, if they are fortunate.
Just because you lack the understanding and respect for a different cultural dance, doesn't mean it's less! Clearly from a entitled and imperialistic western perspective.
Very nice, very cool.
Bravo!!!
Magnifique jolie prestation
She is AMAZING! She can move while laying down.
