A few moments from a voyage on the Paul R. Tregurtha, Queen of the Lakes

In 2019, Interlake Steamship Co. allowed my husband and I to travel on the Paul R. Tregurtha--the PRT. At 1,013.5 feet long, she's the Queen of the Lakes. It was amazing to be aboard this thousand-footer and to see how the loading and unloading of bulk cargo works and what it's like to sail the Great Lakes on the biggest boat out there. A bucket list trip, for sure. That research resulted in OSKAR'S VOYAGE, a picture book telling the story of Oskar, a chipmunk who accidentally stows away on the freighter in Duluth and explores the ship as he tries to find his way back home. Kayla Harren created the beautiful illustrations for the book, and Minnesota Historical Society Press is the publisher.
