I've been trickling in research on coffee roasting as it's something I've pondered for a while, happened on your channel and it's great! I'm based in Scotland also so your experiences and challenges would be a "what to expect" for me. Great high quality video and hope you continue to grow the channel!
Thanks 🙏 really appreciate the positive comments as the videos are hard work! 😅 My vote is have a go at it, even if it's a skillet on a gas hob I think you'll be surprised by the results or at the very least enjoy the process!!
Heya thanks so much! When we opened we just did local deliveries and markets and so dodged a lot of complexity like boxes and shipping (we did get a custom stamp made online though) and we printed our own labels at home. For someone else just starting what I'd recommend doing is coming up with a prioritisation of what's 'Must Have' vs what's 'Should Have' or 'Could Have'. I think there is a risk that when starting something big and new we get wrapped up trying to make it perfect on day 1 but in reality it's going to evolve and change no matter what you do!
Heya for the roasting course I went down to Winchester Coffee Roasters and took their course. There are others out there too though and it's important to note that the Winchester one is not SCA certified, I think there are a couple in London that are. The Winchester one was a bit broader and included the practicalities of running a roastery, it also used Roastmax roasters (which is what we are using at time of writing). The SCA ones are a bit more on the techincal side and follow a globally standardised structure to content so just have a think about which you think would be more useful for you!
Great video again! Ofc your advice are best for the UK but I’m sure that the general tips can help anyone! I got a used Behmor 1600 today for 150€ it’s not really for selling coffee but it’s at least a step to start roasting! Imma get a better one with more control later on then maybe think about starting a business.
Good idea!! I should have said in my video that I think the opposite to suffering in anticipation is the temptation to go right in the deepend with tons of expense before you even know if you've got something people want to buy!! So I think you got a good plan!

Great videos. What about printing labels and postage things? Boxes, stamps ... ?

It would be great favour if you would guide us about the market.
Heya what is it you'd like to know?
@ForgeValleyRoasters like how yo market product at what cost to sell and how to convince cafes and other places so they would buy from us.
