It's because he doesn't have any reliable disengagement skill. It's either you kill your enemy fast or you get ganged 😂. But, he is really strong early game. He can bully enemy marksmen and mages. He just needs to be really consistent in doing so before the enemy mages and marksman get fat. Gotta finish the game fast.
Yes and no about the engagement. Watching enough gameplay of Paine from aov, you don’t engage with your ult. You use your ult if you can one shot an enemy or if an enemy is running away low health and you can jump them. You also use your ult to disengage after jumping in from poking them. You engage with your s1, attack, s2, attack and ult out. You may not kill anyone, but you will do enough damage. 14:12 here is a good example. See him invade with s1 and harass heino. When heino ult, simayi could ult to his location easily and kill him. 16:14 here is a good engagement of using his ult. Low health enemy running away. Make a kill. See another low health enemy nearby, use s1 to chase and make a kill.
