Origin of the name
The name Udalguri comes from the words "odal", a tree, and "goor", which means roots or surrounding. The name means "a place surrounding the Udal tree".
Udalguri was formed on June 14, 2004, after the Darrang district was divided into four districts under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
