    Wow great catch ! love those old 645 EMDs! Could you imagine the sound in that tunnel if you could 'mike it" with them coming through??

    Very Nice Video! Gotta love IMO, the best diesel built. That third unit, 8256, is still in use in Richmond, VA at Acca Yard in RCO service as I see it just about every time I am down there. And that 8012 has one heck of a fine RS5T as well.

    SD40-2's are some of the best sounding engines out there.

    The third unit is former Chessie. The first two were built for The L&N and delivered in the Family Lines paint scheme

    Greg has some of the best videos! It would be awesome to see a rocking chair sitting on one of those "porches" as they go by.😁😂

    Were these once Chessie units...they sound very nice I agree, as well as the horn.

      General rule of thumb for older CSX units is that nose light were ex Seaboard, high lights were ex Chessie. There were exceptions to that, but generally speaking that was the case

    @FireCaptE9 Thanks! Yep, there would be some really intense sounds inside a tunnel with those 645's digging in.

    I once stood inside of Natural Tunnel when a SOU coal drag with SD-40's was coming thru uphill. Too bad I had not taken my tape recorder with me....

    I like the vid butt why is it going so slow is it because of a steep grade or turns

  • @SOU5111
    @SOU5111  13 років тому +2

    @madsexymanofthenight Steep grades + heavy tonnage + only 3 SD40-2 units (instead of the usual 4 units) = awesome pulling sounds!

    • @carlzipperman6689
      @carlzipperman6689 4 роки тому +2

      @@TheRealJRC The RS5T is just about extinct except on the NS. They're the only class 1 that still keeps them around and continues to order them. It just sucks that the few out there are heavily restricted and cellinoid controlled which makes them sound nothing like they do in this video. Today's mandated horns are softer, more politically correct than what you hear here!

    • @TheRealJRC
      @TheRealJRC 4 роки тому +2

      @@carlzipperman6689 This is true. I think the reason grade crossing and pedestrian/trespasser deaths have gone up is directly related to the effort to quiet train horns. Why don't we put the sirens and horns on the back of firetrucks an ambulances? That would be similar to what the FRA has done with trains. Makes perfect sense...why would I want to hear it before it hits me? *SARCASM*

    My how trammel has changed. All of the old Clinchfield Branchlines are abandoned and most of the old tipples are gone :(
