I have a 2013 XKR and there are three things that I know to be true...in a straight line it’s the fastest of the three on a dry road, it’s not a true sports car, and it’s the best damn looking car.
I have wider wheels on mine because I struggled with traction on stock and have hit 4 seconds more than once. I don't understand the times that other people get or if mine is somehow faster than everyone elses..
Hardly a straight comparison. The Jag is a GT, the Audi and Porsche are sports cars. Haven't driven the Audi or Porsche, but I can vouch for the fact that both a 7 year old 4.2 n/a XK and a 5.0 s/c XKR will take you 700 miles across Europe (1 coffee stop) without so much as a need to stretch at journey's end.

Firstly, the jaguar xkr is the fastest in all situations other than 0-60 on a wet road, it easily passes an r8 in v8 form and the 911 cant live with the rolling performance either. Secondly, part of the reason people buy "supercars" is the pantomime of the looks and sound, they are subjective i confess, but there is no drama to the looks of the 911, the r8 is the most obviously expensive, and the jaguar is probably the most classically stylish. Also, the 911 sounds lovely, but the r8 is a league above and the jag is the best by far. The r8's awd system makes it the easiest to handle at speed on wet british roads I suspect (ive only driven it on a track) which should count for something. Oh, and for anyone buying second hand, the jag is the only reasonable option.
The jag does 0-60 in 4.1 sec, so In the 🌧 doing 5.3 sucks because I know it doesn’t get traction 1st 2nd and 3rd geR, the jag looks more elegant and sounds the best!
Jag wins on all counts. BTW the XKR has launch control too - it engages when selecting the chequered flag button. Also, the gearshift on the Jag is lightning quick. It’s also the best GT here by far.
I don't care if the Porsche has the best ever performance or that the Audi is easier to drive, The XKR is just too pretty for me not to pick it. Plus, it's a Jaaaaag ;)

Pretty stupid test. The only instrumented test is 0-60 in the wet? Given a dry road over an 1/8 mile, the Jag would definately be fastest. On a road course, I bet they would all be pretty close. What can I say, I just like Jags. The others make you look like you're trying too hard.
The reason Porsche makes things like a multifunction steering wheel an optional extra is because people like me don't like multifunctional steering wheels. It makes sense to leave out things that people may not want and then letting people pay extra for putting it in, rather than charging people for things they don't want.
dont get me wrong i personally favor porsches general styling but the porsche looks 10 years older than the r8 when you consider the r8 was released a decade ago with very few modifications made than the porsche.

As the Jaguar F-Type is a convertible (at the moment), it wouldn't be a fair comparison, even though it is brilliant. The 911 won very easily for one reason besides those already mentioned; it's a much newer and up to date car. I prefer the R8 and the XKR but they've been around for a long while, getting on to around seven years since their release. And they're starting to get a bit old, despite the numbers of facelifts and updates they've had; it seems so inevitable that the completely new versions will be coming very soon...

Why would they waste $4K on the automatic for the Porsche and nearly $10k on the Audi for a transmission that ruins the driving experience? That completely ruins the whole driving experience. The manual connects you to the car and gives you better control. If they're talking about not throwing money away getting the manual is a no brainer. The R8 is a great car, but the lack of storage space does seem to be it's weakest part. The interior seems very nice to me. I don't know what they're talking about with that. Definitely agree with the conclusion that the Porsche is the best overall car for daily driving.
That's such a load of tosh regarding manual gearboxes. PDK shifts quicker than you and you can keep both hands on the wheel. I've got nothing against manual boxes but saying DCTs ruins the experience and you can get better control is just dumb. Maybe ten years ago but not now...
If you're accelerating hard in 2nd gear and then want to coast in a high gear the manual is quicker, since you can actually pick the gear you want to go to. With the PDK you're stuck flipping paddles until you get the gear you want. It's just not enjoyable to a lot of people to lose the process
You can do that as easily in a PDK just flick it into auto. Unless you're a shit hot driver who wants to heel ane toe and rev match downshits I can't see what you're losing and there are many gains with PDK over manuals (both hands on wheel, seamless shifting, acceleration, and the ability to drive as an auto. Porsche GT3 and Turbo S only now come with PDK doesn't that say something on how good these systems are? If you want a manual, go for it but DCT are just as good these days and IMO are worth the extra
If you flick it into auto, how does it know what gear you want to be in? Esp w/7 gears being able to select the one you want gives you more control. The DCT requires sequential changes, which is a deal killer for me. Why not just leave it in auto all the time? The manual is a basic skill that's a lot of fun and the process is one of the best parts of driving a sports car, but doesn't require you to be an expert to enjoy the extra control and fun of driving. If you want to send $4k to flip a paddle instead of the joy of applying the skill of using 3 pedals and revving the car and putting the gear shift into exactly the gear you want go ahead. The company makes more money off the PDK automatics and can sell it to celebrities and people who don't have a clue about driving. The main reason I've seen for the automatic DCT sports cars are people whose wife wants to drive it more than them and won't take the 2 days to learn to drive a manual
Okay answering each comment in order. Your scenario was accelerate hard in 2nd then jump a gear or two and cruise. You can do this with a DCT. If you select auto mode or comfort(if available) it will select the highest gear available enabling an efficient higher gear. It won't go through each gear to achieve this as this second clutch will select the appropriate gear.How does it know? DCT gearboxes are computer controlled and monitor your inputs (steering, throttle, mode). I'm sure there are some good tutorials out there explaining how they work. The latest porsche manual box also has 7 gears.and will automatically rev match your downshifts automatically. This is not an easy skill to do manually and I suspect that most drivers of manual car can't do this. Also it's really only necessary if you're on a track to stop the drive wheels locking during aggressive deceleration I don't have any issue with someone choosing a manual and I have said this three times now . I robustly disagree with your assertion that DCT boxes are for those who can't drive after all as I have said before the GT3 is only available with PDK. Hardly a car for your wife to go to the shops? This is a track focused road car that has an option of race cage and harnesses. Hardly a runaround for celebs! Most high performance cars these days are only available with MCT or DCT gearboxes to be able to cope with the power and torque. (please feel free to research this). Also I'm sure that most individuals who would be wanting to purchase a high powered car such as those in the video would be able to drive a vehicle with a manual box. Basically your assertion is that DCT are not as good as manuals as are a waste of money. I state that DCTs and the latest MCT ( eg ZF 8 speed) are every bit as viable as a Manual clutch for this reasons I have stated above and highly praised by many car journalists. Please don't write back to me, you don't seem to know very much about cars or how they work and I think you need to do some research before giving an opinion which you don't seem to be able to back with any factual evidence.

No it just has the optional sports exhaust with the switch for loud or quite if it were a S model it would have red brake calipers for the same money as the Audi you could have got the Carrara 4 S and that blow the others away
The Jag is a handsome car but it just looks so outdated and even a little old school (not in a good 'retro' way) in this company. I'm genuinely surprised at how quickly it appears to have aged. It now looks like an 'analogue' car in a digital competition.

***** well of the 911 range the GT2, GT3 and Turbo/Turbo S have got the supercar performance, Carrera and Carrera S are just sportscars. Why would they waste $4K on the automatic for the Porsche and nearly $10k on the Audi for a transmission that ruins the driving experience? That completely ruins the whole driving experience. The manual connects you to the car and gives you better control. If they're talking about not throwing money away getting the manual is a no brainer.
The R8 is a great car, but the lack of storage space does seem to be it's weakest part. The interior seems very nice to me. I don't know what they're talking about with that.
Definitely agree with the conclusion that the Porsche is the best overall car for daily driving.
That's such a load of tosh regarding manual gearboxes. PDK shifts quicker than you and you can keep both hands on the wheel. I've got nothing against manual boxes but saying DCTs ruins the experience and you can get better control is just dumb. Maybe ten years ago but not now...
If you're accelerating hard in 2nd gear and then want to coast in a high gear the manual is quicker, since you can actually pick the gear you want to go to. With the PDK you're stuck flipping paddles until you get the gear you want. It's just not enjoyable to a lot of people to lose the process
You can do that as easily in a PDK just flick it into auto. Unless you're a shit hot driver who wants to heel ane toe and rev match downshits I can't see what you're losing and there are many gains with PDK over manuals (both hands on wheel, seamless shifting, acceleration, and the ability to drive as an auto. Porsche GT3 and Turbo S only now come with PDK doesn't that say something on how good these systems are? If you want a manual, go for it but DCT are just as good these days and IMO are worth the extra
If you flick it into auto, how does it know what gear you want to be in? Esp w/7 gears being able to select the one you want gives you more control. The DCT requires sequential changes, which is a deal killer for me. Why not just leave it in auto all the time?
The manual is a basic skill that's a lot of fun and the process is one of the best parts of driving a sports car, but doesn't require you to be an expert to enjoy the extra control and fun of driving. If you want to send $4k to flip a paddle instead of the joy of applying the skill of using 3 pedals and revving the car and putting the gear shift into exactly the gear you want go ahead.
The company makes more money off the PDK automatics and can sell it to celebrities and people who don't have a clue about driving. The main reason I've seen for the automatic DCT sports cars are people whose wife wants to drive it more than them and won't take the 2 days to learn to drive a manual
Okay answering each comment in order.
Your scenario was accelerate hard in 2nd then jump a gear or two and cruise. You can do this with a DCT. If you select auto mode or comfort(if available) it will select the highest gear available enabling an efficient higher gear. It won't go through each gear to achieve this as this second clutch will select the appropriate gear.How does it know? DCT gearboxes are computer controlled and monitor your inputs (steering, throttle, mode). I'm sure there are some good tutorials out there explaining how they work. The latest porsche manual box also has 7 gears.and will automatically rev match your downshifts automatically. This is not an easy skill to do manually and I suspect that most drivers of manual car can't do this. Also it's really only necessary if you're on a track to stop the drive wheels locking during aggressive deceleration

I robustly disagree with your assertion that DCT boxes are for those who can't drive after all as I have said before the GT3 is only available with PDK. Hardly a car for your wife to go to the shops? This is a track focused road car that has an option of race cage and harnesses. Hardly a runaround for celebs!
Most high performance cars these days are only available with MCT or DCT gearboxes to be able to cope with the power and torque. (please feel free to research this). Also I'm sure that most individuals who would be wanting to purchase a high powered car such as those in the video would be able to drive a vehicle with a manual box.
Basically your assertion is that DCT are not as good as manuals as are a waste of money. I state that DCTs and the latest MCT ( eg ZF 8 speed) are every bit as viable as a Manual clutch for this reasons I have stated above and highly praised by many car journalists.

Porsche are way ahead the competition in this video. The power to weight balance is perfect. The Audi maybe easier to drive but slower and the Jaguar is simply disappointing.
