It boils down to what composes the Democratic party: Some Democrats envy/hate the rich, some are for strong even corrupt labor unions, some think wealth should be given to the world's poor, some think he is too powerful, some think Space is a waste of money, some think he says silly things, and some think he is a liar. I'm a Democrat, a moderate, and am wondering where my fellow moderates are hiding. I also believe that Musk knows how to focus his fortune, combined with brains and hard work, to get the most for America and the World. He is an optimist, not a liar. He is providing ten of thousands of people with good wages and is pushing the world into the future with a few kicking and screaming. The current administration is no friend of Musk due to a President whose brain is still back in the 1950s regarding unions. Fortunately, NASA is still a friend of SpaceX, the World likes Tesla cars, and Elon Musk seems to be in good health. Unfortunately, there is only one Elon Musk.

Unfortunately for them this excuse can't be used against Tesla, which makes them frustrated. But apparently they decided to attack him through deaths caused by their auto pilot. OF COURSE a deadly accident is going to happen involving a Tesla. That is when Elon Musk will be attacked full force with "the law" as stick to force him. All these opinions right now, and bad mouthing is just preparation. By repeatedly saying "he did not respond", they will be able attack him through legal bullshit when the next accident happens. I hope Elon is aware of this, he should hire already a bunch of really good lawyers to get his defense in order before this happens.

Remember that TESLA is now worth a trillion dollars and will probably be worth more in years to come. All sorts of politicians want a piece of that money. Traditionally in the US one way politicians share the wealth of corporations is through campaign donations from the union employees of those corporations. Obviously, no union means no donations, however, there is another aspect of this that scares politicians. What if TESLA succeeds so much that it REPLACES other American automobile manufacturers? Then there will be no more donations from former employees of failed corporations.
Expect LOTS more hostility from politicians and unions against TESLA if any big name automobile manufacturers actually fail.
Also, don't forget all the robots, automation and AI at TESLA. No union donations to political campaigns from machines or software. As TESLA succeeds more in the US market there will be more pressure for other manufacturers to become more like TESLA and replace more human employees with more robots, automation and AI . . . hence, there will be even fewer campaign donations from survivors of the TESLA invasion.
I wonder if any politicians have had analysts look at these potential trends? Surely there is much more complexity in the situation than this.

The electricity brokering software in his Powerwall system has the potential to earn a small revenue stream for owners of solar and solar/wind/etc. home energy systems. He cannot promise much, yet, because nobody has yet seen how the American consumer responds to the scenario of payment for electricity generated on residential rooftops, or backyard windmills or home integrated thermal systems.
What do you think? If a future $5,000.00 solar power system covers HALF your home rooftop and produces MORE electricity than you need, will you spend ANOTHER $5,000.00 to deliberately produce a SURPLUS of electricity for sale to your less adventurous neighbors? Will they then become more adventurous themselves upon hearing about your extra income?
I imagine a future where cheerfully profitable TESLA solar rooftop owners invite selected neighbors to quiet evening celebrations where the centerpiece is a Powerwall buy/sell software display of the monthly revenue streams. Maybe there will also be a virtual visit from a TESLA customer services representative.

    • @-JustHuman-
      @-JustHuman- 3 роки тому +26

@@GrahamWathey Okay here is why a Union is bad. Firstly Tesla couldn't hire who they wanted, they would have to be union or no hire, so if the best guy for the job wouldn't join or if there was a union worker needing a job they would have to pick a lower candidate. They also would have to pay the union and not try to compete on wages, as it is set by the union, so they couldn't offer better paid jobs to get the best people from others, as that wouldn't be okay with the union either. It also makes it hard to get rid of members of the union, even if they don't preform, as they now have a union backing them up.
That means it's worse for the good employees, as they would have to accept lower pay, and bad for the company because they can't get rid of people that under preform. In Teslas case it also means no more stock options for the workers, and boy that's a bad deal for them right now, as there have been many saying they have really made bank, and can retire early.
The only ones that wins are the union and the politicians getting paid by the union.

Lower center of gravity, more crush space for collisions, etc. Many collisions aren't deadly, this isn't the 1950s where a car is a literal death box on wheels. I think the software has potential but i think the government is gonna be iffy on allowing untested completely autonomous software. Its treating other companies *like all the other manufacturers* the same in this regard.

The case in point is that supposedly driverless accident inTexas with the Model S that was immediately blamed on Autopilot. The NTSB itself has declared that there was a driver and that Autopilot was not engaged at the time of the accident.

Even if FSD was said to be completely unsafe, it can be disabled remotely, so issuing a recall makes zero since.

I was driving N-332 with my Tesla Model 3 LR AWD from Orihuela Costa to Alicante airport.
When passing Torrevieja the car abruptly decided to take sidekick to the left and the back again.
My wife sitting next to me asked: “What happened? Was there someone riding a bicycle with no lights?”
“Yes. As there was noone near us on the left side, the car avoidid the accident.”
This was not the first time that my Tesla saves a life as pedestrians tend to enter the driveways carelessly.
Have been driving with this Tesla since September 27, 2019 receiving frequent SW updates.
I do understand that EU sets various rules on what can be done, but so far I have been pretty satisfied.
Was driving down from Travemünde in Germany the fourth time (first time with my wife) and her only concern was: “Do you have the automation on?”
She had found out that the car was on the Autobahn lane absolutely correctly maintaining the distance to the car in front.
If the car in front was slow enough Tesla asked me to use the left turn signal for initiating the bypass.
She now thinks that I am a gentleman on the road.

Elon Musk has the most open mind when it comes to problem solving. He is a multidimensional thinker. He considers many solutions and how all of those solutions will evolve in time. Things that the rest of us thought were probably impossible Elon was willing to put all of his effort and funds on the line for. The thing I like the best is he does it all for the greater good of mankind before thinking of himself he will go without to serve the solutions and innovations that will better humanity. Elon Musk, I would say is the humanitarian of the millennia! Now if we can all learn to be a little bit more like Elon maybe we have a chance to to be written about in history books as well!

I think it's a pretty simple matter of money and influence. Companies are all competing, and have different strategies they use to stay ahead. Tech companies get ahead by making huge innovations that make them so good that people flock to their product and give them money (think of early Apple when they first made the iPhone) or by making a product so well-integrated to your life that you're sorta stuck with them for good (think of current Apple with their whole ecosystem of laptop, tablet, phone, etc). Compare that to something like an automaker that doesn't have the ability to make massive innovations. Their best strategy is to instead lobby the government to give them favorable loans/bailouts, favorable factory deals, and most of all favorable legislation. Once your company gets to a certain size, historically the only thing that makes you fail is some great innovation that makes your product obsolete. This happened to multiple TV companies over the decades as better, cheaper TV technologies were invented by up-and-coming competitors. So the best ways to stop this is to buy the innovative new competitor or create legislation to make you and your competitors jump through a bunch of hoops just to exist. The biggest company is both able to lobby the most money and survive the strictest legislations.
The other side of this is the legislators themselves. They naturally do things that give them more power, justify their growing salary or head count or promotion, or earn money from lobbyists. This of course means that the legislation overall gets bigger and worse, and increasingly favors the lobbying entities.

We all know that Tesla's AP is safer than the average driver and that if the our politicians were consistent and honest (and had some brains) they would know that cruise control (around for decades) is responsible for more deaths and injuries per mile than Tesla's AP. Fall asleep at the wheel and cruise control keeps the car at the same speed until you leave the road or hit something or someone. If these guys are serious, cruise control shouldn't be allowed. How about all those people that shouldn't be driving because they're too old, can't see, are sleep deprived, on medications that cause sedation, .....etc? There are lots of downside to Elon's FSD dream and he knows it!
Lately FSD cars have been hitting emergency vehicles. There will always be these anomalies that pop up and the FSD will crash, and as long as the public officials realize this they won't let legalize FSD for their jurisdiction.

One thing to consider is that the major auto companies are being heavily impacted due to Tesla. Tesla is changing how they do business and how they innovate. It's forcing them to re-examine long-held beliefs. It's pretty clear that they are being left behind in many respects in part due to Tesla's vertical integration and new methods such as their mega castings. Tesla is also the only manufacturer outside of China that makes their own batteries and even their own chips for autopilot and their own supercomputer for crunching data. Tesla is also raking in massive profits even among severe supply shortages whereas their competitors are mostly sidelined. The last thing is that Tesla is seeing massive profits with unheard-of margins on every car sold and demand such that the waiting list is measured in months and is growing. This is a major upset to an industry that has been mostly stagnant for years ever since they were forced to change in th1980's when Japan forced them to start considering reliability and quality. Tesla is a huge threat to GM, Ford, Toyota, etc. and they know it, so anything to slow Tesla down is good for them. If you don't believe me, look at all of the changes that are going into cars as they play catch-up, from useable center screens to more automated driving support. When it comes to EVs, Tesla is still well ahead of everyone else when it comes to manufacturing. efficiency, and performance. VW recently lamented that it takes 30 hours to produce an ID4 whereas Tesla cranks out a Model Y in 10 hours, with the mega casting taking 90 seconds rather than requiring dozens of parts to be welded, stamped, glued, or riveted together.
The other area is dealerships. Dealerships often make a mint on recalls since everyone needs to take their car in to have the software updated or something else fixed. Never underestimate dealerships that hate Tesla with a passion. Dealerships make their bread and butter on service (which EVs need a lot less of) and finance. They often lose money selling cars. This is the opposite of Tesla which makes most of their money selling cars, though I imagine they also do well in finance and will do well in insurance.

@@colingenge9999 I know. There are some things to hate. Elon Musk tends to be controversial but in the long run, he's often right. As an engineer, I can understand a lot of what Elon says. He comes at car manufacturing as an engineer, not an MBA. That was how Toyota used to be until their current CEO (who is a Harvard MBA). He understands the details. He understands the process. He also hires people that challenge preconceptions and when he sees a good idea is willing to try it. He's willing to take risks which is what is needed to move forward. SpaceX is a perfect example of this. How many unexpected rapid disassemblies have we seen as they do what the rest of the industry said could not be done, reusability. It is this willingness to try things and make mistakes that pushes them ahead. If you have not watched Sandy Munro's channel, I highly recommend it. He's not afraid to call a spade a spade and has a lot to say about Tesla and Elon's philosophy. Do I think Elon is perfect? No. I'm actually disgusted with how he treated COVID at the Fremont plant, of which I am local to. He definitely needs work on his people skills..

Re NHTSA being upset at Tesla for not issuing a "recall". Tesla has fixed many minor issues with an OTA update. These have required minimal engineering time (like slightly increasing the sensitivity setting on window pinch value), and issuing a fleet wide update. But NHTSA requires every owner get a notice by mail that this was done to their car. The cost of mailing notices to millions of customers increases Tesla's cost of the fix by at least a thousand times. NHTSA will not accept customers being notified by email. They want to punish Tesla with the mail costs.
