Lovely video! Here’s one thing about Dagon though, (or Dagan, as he was called by the phoenicians): he actually wasn’t (probably) depicted as a merman. Religious beings of mind and stone, collectively compiled by the Abrahamic scribes as the subjects of ridicule disdain and fabled cautions for the learning youths of their peoples.
I had a nightmare about the demon Azymondias after watching the show The Dragon Prince. I intentionally tried to forget it, but what I can remember is that there was a demon catching/trapping brother duo like in the show Supernatural, but the demon Azymondias replaced one of the brothers, trapped him in a closet and killed him. After that, he continued on with the brother, pretending to capture and trap or kill demons, but he would always kill or murder a demon, a spirit being, a human, always something to add their spirit to his own, but he was an insatiable bottomless pit and would seem to grow no stronger or more witty or helpful, only an ever widening bloody, dark pit. I woke horrified and looked up the name. I recall repeating it obsessively in my mind in the dream because it was what I needed to bind him and also to tell the hapless brother who was blinded to the fact that his brother was not actually his brother, but a demon who had murder/consumed him. D is for Dagon - A little extra on the story of Dagon, I believe he's usually just depicted as a false god, but the story has the statue broken twice, the final time with it appearing to have fallen prostrate before the ark of the covenant which, at that point was considered a strong portent and the ark ejected from their temple. (1 Samuel 5: 1 - 8) E is for Exorcism: I strongly believe that knowing an entity's name is very important. I can call you all day, but nothing gets your attention like knowing your name. F is for Fallen Angel - All fallen angels are demons in Christian demonology. Jude 1:6 NIV "And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling-these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day." J is for Jezebel - I was a part of a church that practiced exorcisms regularly. The idea that "there is a spirit of Jezebel" was very prevalent. I believe if you look up the word and its occurrence in the old and new testaments, you'll find clear leanings towards it not just being a flesh and blood person. When you said the story of the Nephilim is "too spicy for the Bible," that's where you're wrong. It's still in there. Genesis 6:4 NIV "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days-and also afterward-when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown." Numbers 13:33 NIV "We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”" You even reference this later at N is for Nephilim. My dad studied demonology and practiced exorcism for a large portion of his life, specifically after he left practicing the occult. I've come to understand God does not "sic" demons on people. Due to the important dichotomy created by humans having free will (we must have choice in order to actually love someone. A robot programmed to love does not truly love because it has no choice and the result is hollow and shallow) anyway, because of this, there is good and evil and it is as simple as being near God and one with God, which you will find is light, love, goodness, and truth or being separate or distant from it/Him. Instead of having demons sent upon us, we are simply left to our own devices. If we, our spirits, fight rejoining the Light of Life a.k.a. God, he allows us to live with the consequences of our own choices: darkness, brokenness, separation. It's a harsh reality. No, God is not all roses and daisies and puppy dog kisses. We are given freedom of choice and it is a dichotomy. In the end, there is no middle ground, and the consequences are harsh. I hope that you will find the truth and the Truth will set you free. I am surprised you read this far. And whether you did or not, know that God loves you and wants you to be a part of Him again. He wants you to be whole. God is love. God is Life. God is The Truth. Everything else is darkness and torture. You don't have to live in darkness. You are not unloved. And you don't have to be alone. Accept Him and He will always be there for you.
I just found this channel and it’s INCREDIBLE!!! I obviously am not alone in my thinking considering it looks as if you went from 100,000 to over 700,000 in about a year so kudos to you my friend!! Thank you so much for such great content and videos….
10:00 They're are not meant to be read outloud. You're supposed to place these bowls upside down beneath the entrance door and/or in every corner of the house. Moreover, they don't always depict demons, but when they do, it's usually a random demon - not lilith or some other well-known demon. However, the text inside the bowl does mention Lilith (but not always) as part of a story that appears on every bowl. The story has a couple of different versions, but the general idea goes something like this: three angels chase Lilith to the sea to kill her, but once they caught her, they made a deal instead: she mustn’t attack houses that mention the story and their names.
I remember a godfather of mine (who studied Theology and Philosophy) said that it is essential to know the demon's name because its name is its weakest point. That by knowing the demon's name you have the authority upon it.
I mean, knowing someone's name is kind of a big deal. People can try to call you all they want, "baby," "honey," "hey you," etc. and worse, but actually calling out your full name will really get your attention. It's your hook. Your handle. It catches you. Same with a demon or a spirit.

In the Hebrew and Greek biblical texts, Sheol and Hades (both of which are considered “hell” are both references to the grave. The idea of a hell full of fire and brimstone comes from the term Gehenna, which was simply a place located in ancient Israel in which trash was put to burn. Gehenna had a horrible stench, and Jesus referenced this location and its contents in many of His sermons. Early Christianity adopted this idea of a burning hell and it has stuck on to the Christian tradition ever since. Hope this was fun to read! Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong! :)

This might be a weird request but could you make a video covering Yaldabaoth? I believe it's an incredibly interesting topic which, from what I know, isn't really talked about a lot

Do you have any formal study in religion? You surely know A LOT. I'm an atheist myself, but love to hear about religion and mythology. Love your channel!
Nice video. One correction: the name Jezebel, which in the Masoretic text appears as Izevel, was probably pronounced Izvul or Izebul in ancient Hebrew and has nothing to do with Baal. Zebul, like in the name of Zebulun, means a prince or a judge in ancient Hebrew/Phoenician.
Im glad I get to be early to a hochelaga video, your stuff is always so interesting and entertaining. Thank you for making these videos and keep up the good work!
Ngl the reason I stayed a Christian so long is cuz I found the Bible so incredibly fascinating, I still do and looking at it through a purely academic view makes it even more interesting, no disrespect to those who believe in it of course! Because at its core the Bible and subsequently Christianity does give you a guide on how to be a better person and the message is good, id like to check out the quran someday but I've heard its mostly just hymns and prayers
One of the things I like about hochelaga videos is the use of the art. The topic already interests me, but the accompanying visuals make them so much better.
A biblical accurate theme is indeed interesting. I once had a high interest in apocalypse so in the spirit of Eschatology, I spent nights reading every end-of-times scripture from every religion. Biblically accurate end-of-times will be interesting as a video.
If I remember correctly in some stories Lilith was the first woman, she refused to be subserviant to Adam so she got made into a demon and banished to the desert!
A lot of those stories came later, and the part specifically about Adam having two wives started because Genesis contains two alternate stories of creation, which makes it sound like a wife for Adam is created twice! It’s really interesting how Lilith has developed into the modern day. The channel Trey the Explainer has a video about Lilith if you want to learn more, I found it fascinating.
Also, the Apocrypha is only considered non canonical now. Most of those books were considered canonical and very popular during their times. Wasn’t until some people decided “Hmm we should be able to determine what is good enough for the Bible and what isn’t.” which seems super like… blasphemous? If that’s the right word. I used to be Christian and that fact bothered me even then
They were not super popular for their time. Just like conspiracy theories today. The books we ended up with were agreed upon for a long time before the council of Nicea.
Apocryphal texts weren't popular. But they were used to justify every sort of heresy under the sun, and that's not good, so everyone got in common accord to what should be the official compendium. "Super blasphemous" would be things like protestants taking books out of the bible just because they felt like it.
The idea of a "canon" wasn't formed back then and it's for a pretty unexpected reason. Books didn't exist back then. Most writings were in scrolls bundled up in many ways. There wasn't any real standard back then and a diocese can have a different set of scriptures compared to a diocese a few nations away. The only thing that could come close to being a standard was the Pentateuch and the Four Gospels. Most other diocese wouldn't bat too much of an eye if yours decided to carry the Book of Enoch. It was only when books were invented when the idea of a canon begin to form. The problem with books is that, unlike a bundle of scrolls where the collection was fluid in a way, a book had to be bound together permanently. Their joining was essentially permanent. So the early church leaders began to standardize what scriptures are accepted as standard for every diocese to follow.
My personal favourite demon (which is really strange to type 😅) is Stolas a Great Prince of Hell who is usually depicted as a long-legged owl wearing a crown 🦉👑
As someone who has watched an anime called “Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun,” I have an entirely different version of what these demons look like in comparison to their canon counterparts😂
This but me watching so many different demon themed media and the demons all looking drastically different from both each other and from the old illustrations
I used to be a big obey me fan which is a mobile otome game for those don’t know a few years back and Asmodeus was my favorite demon of the bunch. The true story felt in character which is what was amusing.
This was great! Thank you so much, some very interesting information that was completely new to me. I would love to know more about the Apocrypha, as well as the changing relationship between characters in the Bible and other ancient texts and the times they existed through. Also: the demon of typos is brilliant!
ok you need to play Shin Megami Tensei. A lot of the angels and demons are either in the games or have roles to play in the various games. The series uses a lot of angels, demons, myths, legends, and gods from all around the world as recruitable allies.
A correction on Hades. Generally Hades means "the earth" or " the grave" and "Gehenna" is used to mean hell. Gehenna what's the name of a valley used for child sacrifice by the Canaanites, and was used represent God's wrath

(1 Samuel 5: 1 - 8)
E is for Exorcism: I strongly believe that knowing an entity's name is very important. I can call you all day, but nothing gets your attention like knowing your name.
F is for Fallen Angel - All fallen angels are demons in Christian demonology.
Jude 1:6 NIV
"And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling-these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day."
J is for Jezebel - I was a part of a church that practiced exorcisms regularly.
Genesis 6:4 NIV
"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days-and also afterward-when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."
Numbers 13:33 NIV
"We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”"
You even reference this later at N is for Nephilim.
I'm always really delighted when a new video from you is released! Loved every minute of it
The differences between mystical beasts and demons are blurring and it’s an amazing mix
This is easily one of my favorite channels, thank you!
I just found this channel and it’s INCREDIBLE!!! I obviously am not alone in my thinking considering it looks as if you went from 100,000 to over 700,000 in about a year so kudos to you my friend!! Thank you so much for such great content and videos….
it speaks volumes that angels are intangible, but demons are easy to conceptualize
10:00 Love that doodle. So weird to think how old iz is. Remonds you that the people who made these things were humans just like you and me.
That moment where Shin Megami Tensei games made me know most of these demons beforehand lol
Btw great video!
Your content is always so well made ans well researched! Thank you for filling the content hole of weird stuff for us people who love learnin about these things
1:30 When you say you are 'demonsplaining' you are inadvertently insinuating that you are a demon. Love your videos anyway man, please don't possess me.
hochelaga, i must say that i will always double check your channel to make sure ur updating your vid , youre the best
Please do 72 spirits of solomon! I know that's a lot to cover, but maybe you can do a long hour video?
i love learning biblical lores and stories so this video was really fun to watch! i subbed :)
Neat stuff, i really like how you dive in time and explain some of the religion anachronisms.
Defenestration! I knew this channel would use one of my favorite words in one of its forms. I wrote a haiku a while back mentioning it, BTW:
Defenestration!
Palace coup: Prince Charles becomes
Chuck out the window.
That's actually really good, love the pun
Hochelaga really doesn't miss! This was another great video that is perfect for a supernatural investigator like myself 😄😄
much anticipated return, great vid!
I love how you wrap up the discussion with your observations on the data about the Old and the New Testament demons. Thank you for this, it kept my attention for 23 solid minutes! 😊
Really recommend Daemonology by King James (yeah same one who the Bible was named after) - it's basically a 'for dummies' guide on the occult of the time, a witch hunting manual and with some fascinating evidential stories from the time. It's also only about 90 pages, and actually very humorous at times!
Love your channle man.
You do great videos every time.
And as a jewish hebrew speaking man i can say that the way you say hebrew words is almost perfect.
Keep going
I want video of Grimoire and Soloman's demonologies, those ideas are so cool with so dense informations and it's so sad that most people don't even talk about it viewing it as taboos
"Two! Two thirsty daughters! Ah! Ah! Ah!"
Your enthusiasm is such a beam of light
A video about demons from hochelaga is exactly what I needed today
S for sleep paralysis deamon
CHEERS
Humble request here.. can you make a video on Zecharia Sitchin and the Anunnaki? Absolutely no one else dives in deep on a subject like you
In the Hebrew and Greek biblical texts, Sheol and Hades (both of which are considered “hell” are both references to the grave. :)
A few months ago while stalking your channel I was watching a 2 year old video I can’t remember which and you said you wanted to do a video about all religious demons and when I went looking for it among your newer videos I couldn’t find it. This is the shit ai’ve been waiting fot
Great video Hochelaga! Next could you please create a video about the curse of being British. As one of the most horrific curses in all of history, I think it deserves a little spotlight.
This is a fantastic video, I absolutely love the style of content
our man back at it with the body-positive angels
Lol i was wholly expecting you to say Beezlebub or Baal for the letter B 😂😂 good stuff!! I always enjoy your channel and can’t wait to see what project you’re working on!
I'm something of an amateur demonologist, so seeing this video upload pop up in my notifications made me pretty happy.
Always get excited when you release a video! Thanks for the research and everything you do for the channel. Keep it up
This might be a weird request but could you make a video covering Yaldabaoth? I believe it's an incredibly interesting topic which, from what I know, isn't really talked about a lot
I keep seeing shorts, tictoks, or reels with demons names and pictures of dogs playing. Its good to know more about the demons.
the part on Lilith makes me think a video on the biblical references of evangelion would be awesome, though it can't be forced if you're not familiar with the material.
Do you have any formal study in religion? You surely know A LOT.
I'm an atheist myself, but love to hear about religion and mythology. Love your channel!
Dagon is a biblical demon??? Whaaaaaaat?
My Call of Cthulhu sessions have suddenly gotten a lot stranger.
Gods, your content is so good. Well deserved milestone and hope you reach 1 million soon!
Here's an idea for you, how about a video of you covering all the times that the bible mentioned and referenced gods from other religions.
Im glad I get to be early to a hochelaga video, your stuff is always so interesting and entertaining. Thank you for making these videos and keep up the good work!
Born just right to explore the internet
Little clarification, the lesser key has 5 books in it and the ars goetia is the book of the 72 daemons, and only one part of the lesser key
You have the most soothing and captivating voice and cadence
I love your myth content! There's any chance to talk about the Lesses Key of Solomon?
I love how your BGM is a choir version of the Tetris theme!
It's almost like demons were created to take the fall when humans commit evil acts
Your videos keep getting better and more interesting. Excellent work!
@@mixolydia3309 thanks, I'll check that video out.
One of my favorite channels, great man!
Can I ask why u no longer believe?? Don't let other men determine ur relationship with God.
@@riograndedosulball248 so is praying to saints and marry. As well as depictions of Jesus. Marry was not Devine. And no man is a saint as all men sin.
This truly is my favourite UA-cam channel. I hope you hear that a lot, you surely deserve it.
My personal favourite demon (which is really strange to type 😅) is Stolas a Great Prince of Hell who is usually depicted as a long-legged owl wearing a crown 🦉👑
least crazy helluva boss fan
Awesome video
As someone who has watched an anime called “Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun,” I have an entirely different version of what these demons look like in comparison to their canon counterparts😂
This
Gundam fan here, Iron Blooded Orphan has more than 70 Gundams named after demons.
This but me watching so many different demon themed media and the demons all looking drastically different from both each other and from the old illustrations
what
I used to be a big obey me fan which is a mobile otome game for those don’t know a few years back and Asmodeus was my favorite demon of the bunch.
I'm not going to lie, the little four horned sheep demon is just the cutest little thing.
It was depicted as an adorable doggo in Good Omens. Well worth a watch or read as Neil and Terry did their research
My new favorite channel! Keep up the uber high quality you have done oh so well. You rock
Quality content. Thank you
How am i supposed to do a thesis when this MAJESTIC video is in my homepage instead of a good "deep focus dark Academia ambient playlist"
ok you need to play Shin Megami Tensei. A lot of the angels and demons are either in the games or have roles to play in the various games. The series uses a lot of angels, demons, myths, legends, and gods from all around the world as recruitable allies.
very educative video bro, please make a video explains various angels also
A correction on Hades. Generally Hades means "the earth" or " the grave" and "Gehenna" is used to mean hell. Gehenna what's the name of a valley used for child sacrifice by the Canaanites, and was used represent God's wrath
This channel is still so underrated
