Jon, I continue to worry about the possible lingering effect of an eye injury. Could even be degenerative? We pray that isn't the case with CC. But I'm 69 years old and remember Tony Conigliaro. He had his best home run season AFTER his horrible beaning, then he went downhill fast. His premature death was even attributed to it. I don't want this to be politicized -- that said, what's fair is fair. Politically/socially, I am liberal and as anti-MAGA as just about anyone I know. I don't use the term "woke" and people use it without really knowing the meaning. I'm pro DEI, etc, but I am truthful.
So, I had to watch it a few times (and it made me sick each time): It is obvious that Carrington intentionally poked Clark in the eye. (Nails are a separate issue - and yes, all players' should be short - but you can do a lot of damage without long nails.) I wanted to be sure because I consider what she did to be despicable, cowardly and near-sociopathic. I've watched a zillion basketball games at college and pro levels, and you don't see eyes getting poked on a player making a pass to the high post -- IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE BALL. I've seen accidental eye pokes, diving for a loose ball, going for a rebound.
I don't know if she and Mabrey (another dirty player) laughed about it or not -- I don't need that evidence - logic dictated it was no accident, and if it were an accident, there was no sense of apology...just basic humanity for another competitor.
Brennan's questions were more than fair, and DC transparently lied. She even, if I heard it correctly, said, "I didn't know I hit her in the throat." First of all, CC is the most guarded outside player in the W, and was her defensive assignment. And that is exactly the type of player and person she is. I don't want DC to get threats or racial epithets...I don't care about her color or her sexual preference. She is, on the basketball court, a POS who should have been ejected, and spoken to the commissioner's office (if there is one) the next day. And if she answered like that, she should've been suspended not only for the duration of these playoffs but for all of next season as well.
Caitlin, as always, extended amazing grace toward her -- a grace that she was/is not worthy of. Also, Brennan's questions were not only fair, but that would've been an opportunity for DC to show some sense of honesty. Even appreciation to CC...but she's a jealous, hateful asshole.
The players can't claim to be activists for human rights and then want a reporter disciplined for asking a question. This is not Russia. If you're an adult, you can handle adult questions.

If professionalism is allowing your basketball players to act like they are in a roller derby then you should expect questions. If you want to preserve the integrity of the game, you should establish rules that don’t allow unquestioned physical assault.

Jon, I continue to worry about the possible lingering effect of an eye injury. Could even be degenerative? We pray that isn't the case with CC. But I'm 69 years old and remember Tony Conigliaro. He had his best home run season AFTER his horrible beaning, then he went downhill fast. His premature death was even attributed to it. I also grew up a fan of Minnesota Twin Jimmie Hall who was beaned badly in 1964. Well, he came back to make the All-Star team in '65 but then he fell into decline.
