Sadly this is still believed where I came from. No women is allowed to accompany during burial and crying is toned down as the dead can supposedly hear. I remember my mom suppressing her emotion while why grandma died. It was something I could not fathom at that time..that is, how can expression of one's longing be prohibited. May Allah guide us all to the right path and may it be easy for us to accept such guidance. Ramadhan Mubarak!
Ive also heard of that teaching that ‘if you cry, the dead person will be punished.’ Like bro what? Im so done with listening to these people idc what their title is. Im listening to you sis
Grief at the death of a loved one and weeping for the dead is normal and acceptable. Although Muslims are permitted to cry at funerals, when it's accompanied by wailing and lamenting, it becomes haram (forbidden) and attracts punishment. Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wept for the son of one of his daughters. Sa’d ibn ‘Ubaadah said: “What is this, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “This is compassion which Allah puts in the hearts of His slaves. Allah shows mercy to those of His slaves who are merciful.”
@@shimmer4771Al-Nawawi said: What this means is that Sa’d thought that all kinds of weeping were haraam, and that shedding tears was haraam. He thought that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had forgotten that, so he reminded him. But the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) explained that simply weeping and shedding tears is neither haraam nor makrooh, rather it is compassion and is something good. What is haraam is wailing and lamenting, and weeping that is accompanied by one or both of these actions, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah does not punish for tears that are shed or for sorrow in the heart, rather He punishes or shows mercy because of this” - and he pointed to his tongue.
A person can shed tears, but wailing is what is not allowed. When the Prophet ( saw) 's son Ibrahim died,he shed tears and the companions said ," even you?" Then it is reported he said," the eyes shed tears ,the heart is grieved , but the tongue only says what pleases Allah."
As a non-muslim, do we follow this also? I have a cousin who was recently murdered and he's Muslim. Im looking at some videos online to get a better idea of customs, so I don't offend. I'm distraught and i would like to leave flowers and/or visit his grave. I'm not sure what to do. 😭
Hello, sorry for your loss. My apologies in advance for late response. May Allah have mercy on him. If you can, contact an Islamic funeral place, they'll have all the information regarding Islamic laws on funerals (Janaza) or a mosque. Hope this helps.
Assalam alaykom wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh Ramadan Mubarak! Nagyon hasznos lenne ha leírná röviden vagy teljesen az elhangzottakat , ha valaki nem beszél angolul akkor így hasznos tudást szerezhetne ( fordító segítségével) جزاكم الله خيرًا بارك الله فيك.
Jazakillah kheiran Ukhty but where is the dalil. Women are allowed to go to the graveyard but not to follow the procession. Will link the hadith In’Sha’Allah

Hello. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) forbid wailing over the dead. Hope this helps.
