- Rob does a walk around of our campsite then we head out and drive along the bottom of the Savuti Channel. We find the #cute #lion #cubs with the entire pride and film them playing as the sun sets in Savuti. Later in camp, Andy shows us how to prepare a ready meal.
In this series we are on safari filming in Savuti, Linyanti, and the Chobe Waterfront. Savuti is part of the Chobe National Park in North-Eastern Botswana. It is famous for its lions and elephants. The Savuti Channel cuts through the area between rocky outcrops then empties into the Savuti Marsh. The channel is currently dry (and has not flowed for nearly 2 decades), but there are pumped waterholes for the animals, and the roots of the large trees along the banks of the channel can reach the water deep underground.

Filmed and edited by Robert Hofmeyr and Andrew Caldwell.
Behind-the-scenes shot on a GoPro Hero 10. For the telephoto wildlife shots we used a Canon 200-400mm f4 lens on a Red V-Raptor camera. Moving shots were done using a Red Komodo 6K with a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 or Canon 14mm f2.8. Aerials filmed using a Mavic Air 2s.

The cutest lion cub footage yet, and very interesting about the channel. Hilarious how you think you're the boss but the look on Andy's face tells all. Love how the ladies look after you both.
Thanks so much Joan. Yes, we are lucky guys 🙂

Wonderful lion footage. Envy you those sightings. I hope there was some money in them there clips!
Thanks 👍
I’ve been to Savuti twice and loved it! What is the name of the pride you’re filming? The cubs are too adorable. It’s amazing to me that these playful balls of cuteness turn into powerful meat eating machines. Anyway, I did see the marsh pride both times, the first time with cubs. I also saw two cheetah brothers the first time and then a year later when I was in Savuti, I saw them again and was so happy to see them thriving. Greetings from California! ❤️🦁❤️
Thanks Paula. Yes, this is the marsh pride. It's not as big as it used to be, but they do seem to be doing well.
@@MovingPicturesAfrica Thank you much for your reply. While in Savuti, we got charged by a hippo - so crazy. Do you know anything about the two brother cheetahs I mentioned? Whenever I’m in the African bush, I always leave a little part of me because there is no other place I would rather be. I’m a half world away physically but never far from my heart and soul. I’m a big supporter of conservation groups that has to do with Africa’s wildlife and I keep my ear to everything Africa.
@@paulaadams1765 that's great. No I'm afraid I don't know much about those cheetahs.
How long do your road trips last? Until the home-cooked meals run out? 😉 Do I assume you are posting one video for each day out on the road?
😂 yeah, until the meals run out. Usually 2-3 weeks, and we don't do a video each day. Some days not a lot happens
Is there a possibility of lions attacking you while cooking if you are camping in an unfenced area?
It is possible but very very unlikely. We are careful and check with our torches if we move away from the light. I reckon the most dangerous part of our trips is probably the long drives to and from where we are going.
