@TraviTrail can someone show me a "cold fire".
@TraviTrail sorry you don't like my humor!!
What a shame! I’ve always enjoyed looking at this old bridge. The bridge was built in 1912 and adds a lot of character to the area.
I think they can repair it. That bridge sure lasted a long time with monsoons, the weight of train loads increasing over the years, etc.
I'm guessing, and it is ONLY a guess, that, as long as the fire is controlled sufficiently to stop it really taking hold of the rest of the train, then it will require, obviously, the section of bridge that has collapsed and probably the section of bridge next to it, where the car that was fully engulfed was, to be replaced, but the rest of the bridge is fine. Whether or not the operational future of this bridge will be reviewed after this is, of course, another matter...
That bridge withstood many Floods in the 70s and early 90s.
Its a metaphor for the country. On fire and off the rails
Couldn't of said it any better!!

I'm not saying I'm right....but truthfully I think that the majority of the USA is pretty stable and under control. There are a TON of citizens of all size, shapes, colors, creeds that have "The Light" inside them, you can tell who they are pretty accurately in just a few moments of speaking to them....and I think THEY are the majority of our citizens. However, once again....it's the Mainstream Media that is hell-bent for an administration change in November....and they've immersed themselves in the evil darkness for years now, and continue to try and make the population THINK that things are worse off then ever. Wouldnt Surprise me if the bridge was Vandelized intentionaly
CIA fuckery?
Google the witness image..and lumber fodnt just catch fire
I would think that unlikely. Plenty of bridges have been damaged by unnoticed derailed cars being pulled over them. As for the fire, well, if that car had a failed axle bearing, which cold easily cause the derailment, then the heat produced could easily be enough to start a fire in the lumber. It was probably on fire before the train got to the bridge, it's just that, with the airflow moving over the cars as the train moved, it would have been rather contained to the inside of the load rather than the outside. It's something that's happened many, many times before, though not with such spectacular results, hence why they have hot box detectors on rail lines used a lot by freight trains so that the heat caused by a failed or failing axle bearing can be identified and the crew warned, this condition being called a hot box...
They need to disconnect, and pull it back...
Kev Warriner , I don't know if engines are available, but, even a very tiny pitch away from that bridge, those cars can all move just by unhitching, and releasing air.... any grade at all, away from that bridge, one man that knows what he's doing, can move them all..., even if there's 100 cars...
Tom Capon , each car, has a small air tank on it that can release the air brake by pulling a lever beside the car..., no hand brake is set..., can walk toward the fire, and, wherever the risk begins to feel too great, that's where the disconnect gets made..., I'd guess, they've solved the crisis by now...:)
Lew Speedwagon - depends where the slack is, Lew. If the train is stretched, you’ll never be able to lift the pins & uncouple the cars.....the couplers need to be ‘bunched’....
chooch1995 , one railyard, where I worked, a yard man, disconnected a string of moving cars, remembered he hadn't closed the air to the front string, ( where the track mobile was working)..., reached across the coupling to grab it..., the air lines uncoupled, snapped across his chest for one giant blood blister, and, he was dead...
@@lewspeedwagon6330 That's sad. When you work around big machinery though, you have to be careful and know the safety rules. Break them and often people get hurt or killed.
Thus why we need common sense.

so which happened first, did the train somehow derailed and caused part of the bridge to collapse or the bridge had a problem resulted the train to derail?
That’s a good question!
Hmm, curious yes, From the account, the very loud noise was early on in the incident and suggests that the bridge had a fault and or weakness which caused the derailment which in turn then compromised the structure of the bridge further leading to the collapse. (just a poorly informed theory).
I'm replying to myself here... There can be little doubt that a derailment on a straight piece of track shouldn't have that effect on a sound bridge structure. (hence the thought that it was already in poor state of repair)

It was a derailment on an old bridge with creosote rail ties. Thats all, end of story. Happens all the time and could have been much worse.
@@Excitable101 I mean that, I live about 100 yards from a rail road tracks. During morning runs or hikes along those tracks I routinely find large rocks, coins and all manner of auto parts placed on the train tracks.
Most of those items are placed there by school kids curious to see "What Would Happen" when the train runs over this stuff.
The largest item I ever found placed on the train track was a old shock absorber off of some automobile. That old shock absorber was held in place by large rocks on either side of the track so that it didn't roll out of place by the rumblings of the train. That piece of strategically place debris might have been just enough to derail a train if it were not kicked off the track immediately upon being struck by the wheel of the train.
Yes, Poor maintenance or build quality could cause such a thing but deliberately placing an obstruction on the tracks will do that too. That's called sabotage in my book.

Anytime you have this much heat, there will be damage to metal as well as concrete.
@Lord Hentai The fire severely weakens the steel, and concrete. It doesn't need to melt.

When there is enough fuel source, heat will compromise steel. Just a slight bend in a beam is enough to make a bridge unsafe.

whats crazy is 12 hours later and they havent seperated any carriages, havent pulled any back, havent started pumping water?
A rail bridge isn't a minor thing. It would seem they'd want to investigate this for possible terrorism. It does seem strange, however. If a dangerous scene, such as with flammable or potentially explosive or otherwise dangerous conditions, they may have to leave it alone. The cars on a compromised bridge may be enough.
Sad to see a 100+ year old bridge go down. Hopefully the railroad will keep some of it for a museum.
Wow. I live here, and had NO idea! Just stumbled across this video. Don't work in Tempe anymore, but still!
Our trains that come through are miles long
How did the fire 🔥 get halfway across the bridge .. looks shady
Tracy Knowles Well, you have a line of wood ties laid out on a wooden lined trestle bed, it’s the middle of a heat wave, there’s likely flammable preservatives in the wood, and then you ignite it. I don’t think there’s any hidden mystery - derailments and fires like this are well documented elsewhere. Looks dramatic, but it’s not anything weird. News will be happy though.
The train caused the fire while it was moving over the bridge. The wooden ties under the track caught fire as the train stopped.
Not shady. Most of the rail cars are lumber cars. Very very easy to jump car to car. Plus alot of the bridge is constructed from wood.
Fire can travel a long way under a structure.
Why is the bridge on fire and its sitting over a large body of water???
Did the derailment cause the bridge to collapse, or did the bridge give way, causing the train to derail? What set the lumber on fire? There had to be some kind of accelerant, because it's actually difficult to set treated lumber on fire.
Damn it I've been waiting on that pressure treated lumber for weeks now for couple of jobs to be done now the price just went up plus no Lumber available everybody's out.

@AmericanPatriot Most likely diverging traffic to another line. It may make it a longer trip, but it will keep traffic flowing until the railroad assess the damage and rebuilds. Amtrak's Sunset Limited runs from New Orleans to Los Angeles on the UPRR Sunset Route, while the Southwest Chief runs the BNSF Southern Transcon from Chicago to Shawnee Kansas where it will run the Topeka Sub into Emporia Kansas. It will rejoin the transcon briefly in Emporia Kansas before departing the transcon for the La Junta Subdivision into southeast Colorado and northern New Mexico. The Chief will rejoin the Southern Transcon at Belen Junction south of Albuquerque coming off the Glorieta Sub onto the Gallup Sub. It will depart the transcon at the Redondo Fly-Over on the southeast side of downtown Los Angeles where it will run the joint River Subdivision into Los Angeles Union Station.
There is a branch line that runs from the west side of Phoenix to Wellton Junction east of Yuma where it connects with the Gila Subdivision. This line would need to be Class One PTC ready to accept Union Pacific Class One traffic. This will still allow for a work-a-round to Tuscon traffic from Phoenix and points east of there until the trestle over the Tempe Lake (Salt River) is restored. BNSF has a branch called the Cadiz Subdivision northwest of Wickenburg in the ghost town of Matthie that runs to Cadiz California where it joins the Southern Transcon on the Needles Subdivision which runs from Needles California into Barstow. This subdivision runs roughly parallel with I-40 through the Mojave Desert.
This freight or passenger train.?
Camille is so much more eloquent and descriptive than Gibby. Hire Camille, she is smart!
Very well spoken and sincere
The fire 🔥 just looks like its halfway across the bridge well away from the wreck it looks very shady
Prayers for the train crew and the fire fighters
So tragic...
But I couldn't imagine how long should I wait before I can cross the road if ever I got caught with this traffic.
2020 strikes once more
Damn it's like 10 minutes Away of my house
OMG that means you are a distant witness - did you smell the smoke, hear screams or see it on TV ?
@@jwarmstrong I only see people running l
@Robert Biondo lmfap
@@jwarmstrong Of course but the smell of meth overpowered the train smoke coming from his bedroom.
We need to know why a train derailed 1 week before this one and why the train company dint fix the problem. From the first derailment!
I would have viewed train fire on bridge. Where is this collapse mentioned in the title?
