I agree with you. I'm still on FM21(about 4000hrs) and always use a 5212 formation. The only TI's I use are High D-line, higher LOE, CP and counter on a postive mentality. This tactic allows to do very well with lower CA players. In smaller leagues like Belgium, Norway, Poland, etc. a CA between 120-130 allows you to be the dominating club for many years to come. A UCL or UEL win is also possible with these "settings". If you aim to win a bigger league like the EPL, LaLiga, Bundesliga, ECL then a CA between 130-140 can be enough. A CA between 150-160 can make you the biggest team in FM with many domestic and ECL thropies.
I think this fair, even the difference between a 50 and 60 say, fm arena style scoring, is near indistinguishable in the game itself. The speed thing is completely overplayed, it is super effective, but the same is true of irl football. Athletically superior teams have a natural advantage. The game is essentially about space invasion and logically how can it ever hurt to be quicker and stronger than an opponent. That said some go overboard here as moost tests ignore combinations of attributes, andd instructions. Fm arena suffers from everyone milking the combination that works, and tweaking so because of thhe influence of one idea its highly biased. Like the overuse of attackingg mentality for example, delicious tube has proven similar results are possible with positivie and balanced, and even telling players (defenders) to dribble less, instead of the "meta" dribble more thats on all of those tactics.
I'll have to look into telling the defenders to dribble less and some of those other tips - good stuff. I've also noticed that I've had more success on balanced in FM23 than on attacking. Not sure if that means there's something different in that game, or that the supposed benefit given by going attacking is exaggerated.
@@danielevensen84 balanced was certainly the most used on fm 23. There was no need to go any further. It's actually harder to dominate posession through instructions on fm 24. People often forget again as in irl, teams like man city who win and dominate possession have players who are dominant to begin with.
the fm arena tactics give you a huge advantage, i think you're underplaying it a LOT. you can a team like luton, make no transfers and finish in a European position simply using the fm arena tactics. Yes you need attributes but the tactic is what really makes a team OP. but they're boring to use so
It feels like you're one step away from actually understanding why attacking tactics are good. Aside from the realism aspect that very few coaches at the top level are successful due to defending, it's built into the game of football generally. If you don't attack, whatsoever, you don't score. Even the most defensive of coaches have to implement some form of countering and counter press otherwise the other team walks through them. This isn't some "gegenpressing" style of play, this is literally every coaches style of play. Every coach has to attack at some point to win games. Also, of course fast players are important to a team. Players who are completely immobile and slow are impossible to utilise. All sports require athleticism, if you can't run or run quickly, you're of no use. Team cohesion as well, incredibly important. Ten hag currently suffering with such a dilemma that team morale and unity completely destroys his ability to create a team structure on the pitch. He also clearly despises press conferences and the daily running of a club. I get it's unenjoyable, but if anything it's realistic and definitely makes logical sense
This is a really good point - and it tracks with what I've been able to piece together from Jonathan Wilson's writing. You're especially right that athleticism is extremely important. It does make logical sense.
Better players you have in comparison to the opposition more you can offensively overload. Been the same story on every cm and fm version. Just the most modern fms you have to do all the mundane stuff like player interactions and media. Its no surprise seeing tactics work with 4 amcs and only 1 holding midfielder or no holding midfielder work with very good players on all versions from cm to the latest fms.
Ok so whats an idiot guide to being successful? Get fast players who can jump and keep morale up and generally you will win things is what your essentially saying?
a good pre-season (ie. 22 players that are match ready, not tired and full morale), physically strong players with good anticipation, concentration , work rate and dribbling. and immediately you will outperform the ai for the first 10 matches or so. the meta tactics just make the most out of the most OP attributes. so using one is an advantage. without recruiting anyone you can win la liga season 1 with las palmas. or serie a with sassuolo, ligue 1 with strasbourg or nantes. premiere league with luton, bundesliga with koln. you need to be on top of squad cohesion, morale and fitness. never play tired players, always rotate some of your squad. to avoid injuries you need to lower training intensity for tired players, rest your players after games (1 or 2 days for fielded players). there is actually no training debuff for resting players. always congratulate your players after good training/performances etc. pre-season team meeting is an easy boost also, depending on where the media places you just tell them you want to achieve that or one category higher. a good start to the season will just snowball in terms of morale and cohesion.
@raphgrel5635 hey just caught this now. Dude if you say it's that easy I'd love to see you do it. Love watching g road to glory sets on UA-cam and if you can make one I'd watch it no hassle. Cheers for the reply 👍

Wow - good to hear that FM21 is still going strong for you! I actually kind of regret upgrading. I've got many fond memories of that version.

Would recommend checking out Bustthenet content on FM as he has extensive knowledge of FM over the many years he has played the game.
