First time saw David Grisman was around 1977 at Sonoma County Fair featured Tony Rice and Daryl Anger I believe on violin. The Norton Buffalo Stampede played there too Lovin In The Valley of The Moon. Valley of The Moon is a stretch between east Santa Rosa and Sonoma California. I had a guitar repair and finish shop back then. The music was of the charts became a Grisman fan the first song he played. Thanks for posting this brought back great memories.
Thanks once again for enjoyment to the ear and influence of imagination of what flavors pleasing combinations of chords notes and timing and volumes assembled in co ordination express fluid originality
Man David I met you in the redwoods a couple years ago and didn’t realize it was you I was playing guitar.. I really wish we could jam and possibly share some stories brotha much love.
Sweet. In spite of a long history in Bluegrass, I had never heard of a Loar until more recent times when I started checking out jazz guitars. Although I've certainly seen ones I liked over the years, just didn't know what they were, only that they sounded good.(!) This is a one-of-a-kind mandolin. Beautiful tone, you can hear it well in the video. Thanks for sharing a happy, peaceful moment. Happy Father's Day.
Uncle Jay says David is one of my mentors and mandolin heroes many times he has passed Crusher my way and truly this particular Loar is bad ass! ! I have been blessed to have met David and included in his family Mary too🎩✌️🥸🎶❤️
I first heard the HOT DAWG in the late 70s and the first track DAWGS BULL blew my mind and the rest of the album as well but that track stills sends chills down my spine today the ultimate cross blue grass jazz fusion Tony Rices guitar break goes into the cosmos thank you David you done so much great work but for me HOT DAWG still blows my mind every time l listen to it.🙏👁👀
i would love to know if this mandolin is the one from my local music store harry and jeanie west i heard david got a loar from his son after the father passed long live the best mando man around
Fascinating. Thanks! But don't sell Crusher short. It's one of the most iconic mandolins in history - entirely, not just bluegrass. And you know, Grisman plays a LOT more than bluegrass, and has for many years on this fabulous instrument.
Dawg is a national treasure.
Wow that is the nicest sounding mandolins I have ever Heard
Dave... The crusher... Is the O so familiar Mandolin sound we all hear at heart,,,, BIG love long live David the Dawg Grisman.

What tone!
I can just hear how amazing it is from the video, which isn't always possible. Makes me wonder just how amazing it sounds in real life...
David - we just love you, your playing and you collaborations!
Just listen to that thing... there’s no end to what it can do. Phenomenal instrument! Of course Dawg knows how to get it out of there too!
Excellent

So far, I can play 3 mando chords and I may get a raise soon so I'm well on my way to deserving a Loar F5.
I own an old degarratype glass photo of that same dog still hanging on my wall..68yr old luthier musician and lover of the Grisman dynasty.
Dawg has a ninja turtle on his for his grandkids.... coolest ever...
What is the name of that song?
It sounds like The Prisoner’s Waltz with some improvised sections. If I’m correct, it’s from the original Tone Poems album with Tony Rice.
That’s Dawg Waltz!

Does anybody know what song it is he’s playing
Diggity Dawg!!
Blame it on that simple twist of fate
Why, oh why has Gibson never offered up a Dawg Master Model F5...
There's a reason why he has covered up The Gibson. Along with Frank Wakefield using electrical tape to cover his. I heard a story once upon a time.
@@thomaskingsley4819 any idea what the reason was?
Must be rough when you can’t tell your Lloyd loars apart
Each note sounds like a quarter maybe a half dollar
Slava Ukraini
What is the name of "that tune"?
